Thanks o.m. I suppose this is eligible, just like WOXY's list.

However, it's weird to see things like 3 Imagine Dragons songs from an "alternative" source...
And I love Bob Marley, but why is he the only artist with pre-80s material?

I know Henrik about this Bob Marley exception...Same goes for BEASTIE BOYS which has 9 inclusions and are about the few Rap artists in this alternative list...And DAVID BOWIE has none...Glad you enjoyed the list though, fantastic interviews on KROQ, excellent live sessions too...An institution as some people might say...

These kinds of radio-station lists are questionable, at least to me. I only say that because a local top 40 station, for instance, usually runs its Firecracker 500 around Fourth of July, and it's not a ranking of what the station thinks are the "best songs" or anything like that. Other stations do similar things, especially around holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.

Well KROQ is hardly anti-Bowie thanks to their relationship with Rodney Bingenheimer who was the first person in all of America to play him. Same goes for the Ramones and just about anything punk related. Richard Blade on the other hand was partially responsible for synth wave movement becoming so popular here. He's the second most recognizable British dj in all of SoCal next to KCRW's Nic Hartcourt.

I also imagine that this list only covers stuff from the 'KROQ era,' which would presumably not include the majority of Bowie's 'peak' years. I'm not 100% sure when KROQ was founded (or when it switched to its modern rock format), but I would wager it was during the late-'70s, after most of Bowie's acclaimed singles had been released.

Important to note that the Beastie Boys always got play on 'alternative' radio stations while most other hip hop artists did not. It can be assumed it was because they were white and thus more appealing to largely (exclusively?) white radio programmers working in a format that played to a mostly white audience. Alternately, I suppose you could argue that their '90s albums are much-less indebted to hip hop culture than their '80s albums, and this is why the discrepancy exists. To this end, it is worth noting that hip hop stations were not too keen on the Beastie Boys in the '90s.

I agree. This and WOXY's list probably rely too much on past playlists/countdowns and listeners' request to be truly called a critics' list. Otherwise, this would open for the inclusion of those special countdowns that Rick Dees and Casey Kasem sometimes come up with, which are ghastly.

I thought that maybe I would include this list after all, while perhaps giving (commercial) radio station lists a lower weight. I don't want to exclude woxy and other radio sources I already have on AM. But the word "biggest" in the title hints that this list is isn't what the staff think is the best.

For now, it's not eligible. Let me know if you think it's wrong.

I'd reconsider it and the list I just shared. Too much of it feels based in influence rather than popularity (how else would Talking Heads make the cut?).

I would reconsider its eligibility too. Especially because of the influence of KROQ. Maybe with a low weight (I don't know how it works in the formula but Henrik should understand it)
