Best known for his 1965 hit single "Aline," Christophe is a French singer/songwriter whose recording career spans several decades. His career underwent ups and downs over the years, and his style changed from decade to decade. After falling out of favor in the late '60s once the success of "Aline" had receded, Christophe made a comeback in the 1970s on the label Motors. Then after falling out of favor once again in the '80s, he made another comeback the following decade with Bevilacqua (1996), and his recording career carried on well into the next century.

Born Daniel Bevilacqua on October 13, 1945, in Juvisy-sur-Orge, a suburb of Paris, he was interested in music at a young age. His influences include chanson (Edith Piaf, Gilbert Bécaud), blues (Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker), and rock & roll (Little Richard, Elvis Presley). In 1963, before billing himself as Christophe, he made his recording debut as Daniel Bevilacqua with the four-track EP Reviens Sophie on the label Golf Drouot. After nothing came of that release, the young singer changed his billing to simply Christophe and scored the career-defining hit single "Aline" in 1965. The anthem of the summer, "Aline" was succeeded by a series of follow-up singles, including "Les Marionnettes" (1965), "J'ai Entendu la Mer" (1966) and "Excusez-Moi Monsieur le Professeur" (1966). By the end of the 1960s, however, Christophe had more or less disappeared from the French hit parade. In 1973 he mounted a comeback, changing his style and releasing Les Paradis Perdus, his first of several albums for Motors over the next ten years. Subsequent albums on Motors include Les Mots Bleus (1974), Live à l'Olympia (1975), Samouraï (1976), La Dolce Vita (1977), Le Beau Bizarre (1978), Pas Vu, Pas Pris (1980), and Clichés d'Amour (1983). In addition, "Aline" was revived as a hit single in 1979 after a reissue on Motors.

By the end of the '80s, however, Christophe had once again disappeared from the French hit parade. For roughly ten years he released no music at all. Yet in 1996 he mounted another comeback, changing his style once again and releasing Bevilacqua (1996), an experimental, electronic-tinged album on which he wrote all of the songs himself, many of them personal. Subsequent albums include Comm' Si la Terre Penchait (2001), Olympia 2002 (2002), and Aimer Ce Que Nous Sommes (2008). Produced by Christophe Van Huffel from the group Tanger, Aimer Ce Que Nous Sommes was a Top Five hit on the French albums chart.

He died after being in critical condition due to COPD on April 16, 2020.


The song:
"Aline" is a single by French singer Christophe. The song became one of the two big hits in France during the summer of 1965 along with "Capri c'est fini" of Hervé Vilard. It sold one million records. The song was produced by the Disc'AZ label. The song is about a man begging his woman to come back and has been described as a "slow, romantic ballad". On 25 September 1965 it reached number one in Belgium's top 10, surpassing "Capri c'est fini" which came in second place, becoming a "substantial hit" in that country according to Billboard magazine. In October 1966 it became the number one hit in Israel. The song was composed by Christophe and arranged by Jacques Dejean. "Aline" is Christophe's favourite song.

Christophe composed the song while visiting his grandmother for lunch. He did not immediately have a name for the song. However, on a visit to the dentist, he asked the assistant what her name was, to which she replied Aline. He so liked the sound that he decided to use it as the name for the new song. "Aline" is the second record of Christophe and his first great success. His first record "Elle s'appelait Sophie" had sold only 27 records. In an interview with Le Point, Christophe chose "Aline" "without hesitation" as his favourite a song and "he still sings [it] with the same pleasure for 50 years".

Voyage was a French disco and pop group, consisting of André "Slim" Pezin (guitar/vocals), Marc Chantereau (keyboards/vocals), Pierre-Alain Dahan (drums/vocals) and Sauveur Mallia (bass), together with British lead vocalist Sylvia Mason-James, who sang on the group's first two albums, Voyage (1977) and Let's Fly Away (1978).

For their next two albums, Pierre-Alain Dahan became the lead vocalist on Voyage 3 (1980) and on One Step Higher (1982), and the group's sound changed from disco to pop.

Before Voyage, Pezin, Chantereau, Dahan and Mallia worked together in a band called V.I.P. Connection in 1975 with two disco songs: "Please Love Me Again" and "West Coast Drive", songs known by fans and collectors of early disco music.

They also worked as session musicians or in live performance in France, with artists such as: Manu Dibango, Cerrone, Alec R. Costandinos & the Synchophonic Orchestra, Michel Sardou for Slim Pezin; Michel Legrand, Jean Musy, Cerrone, Bernard Lavilliers for Sauveur Mallia; Léo Ferré, Michel Delpech, Guy Béart or Johnny Hallyday for Marc Chantereau; Nino Ferrer, Jean-Claude Petit, Serge Gainsbourg and Stéphane Grappelli.

From the late 1960s until the mid 1970s, they were in demand in France, Europe and worldwide, in all styles of music: jazz with Grappelli, French chanson with Ferré, world music and jazz with Dibango, rock with Hallyday, and French pop with Sardou and Delpech.

Their lone Billboard Hot 100 entry was "Souvenirs," which hit No. 41 in 1979. They had more success on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, where two of their albums, Voyage (1978) and Fly Away (1979), hit number one.

In the UK, the group had three chart singles. A double A-side, "From East To West"/"Scotch Machine" (the latter song retitled "Scots Machine" because the term "Scotch" is no longer used in Scotland) reached No. 13 in 1978, while later that year "Souvenirs" made No. 56. Also popular was the song "Lady America". Their last impact on the charts came in 1979 when "Let's Fly Away" peaked at number thirty-eight.

In their home country, France, they were successful in the nightclubs of Paris, and featured on radio and television promoting their songs, but they ranked only three singles, "From East To West" peaked at #20 on May 26, 1978, then "Souvenirs" peaked at No. 53 on January 12, 1979 and "Tahiti - Tahiti" peaked at No. 43 on May 5, 1979. However, the four musicians couldn't replicate their successful French record sales in the United States. In spite of the quality of their albums, their songs, "I Don't Want To Fall In Love Again" in 1980 and "Let's Get Started" in 1982 failed to chart. As disco went on the wane, they turned to making albums with a more funky sound.

After Voyage, the group members worked separately with a number of singers, including Françoise Hardy, Alain Chamfort, Mylène Farmer, Guesch Patti, Jean-Louis Murat. Slim worked on the French movie soundtrack Betty Blue in 1986 and produced a French hit "Caressé Mwen" sung by Marijosé Alie in 1987. Sauveur Mallia worked on several movies soundtracks like Moonstruck with Cher in 1987, Breakfast of Champions with Bruce Willis in 1999, and was involved in other projects with Chantereau and Dahan.

Exile One is a cadence musical group founded by Gordon Henderson in the 1970s with musicians invited over from Dominica, to be based in Guadeloupe. The band was influential in the development of Caribbean music. It became famous throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean. Exile One opened the way for numerous Cadence-Lypso artists as well as for Zouk.

In 1969, Gordon Henderson (the "Creole father of soul" and "Godfather of Cadence-lypso") decided that the French Overseas Department of Guadeloupe had everything he needed to begin a career in Creole music. From there, lead singer Gordon Henderson went on to found a kadans fusion band, the Vikings of Guadeloupe – of which Kassav' co-founder Pierre-Eduard Decimus was a member. At some point he felt that he should start his own group and asked a former school friend Fitzroy Williams to recruit a few Dominicans to complete those he had already selected. The group was named Exile One. During the early 1970s, they initiated a fusion of cadence and calypso "Cadence-lypso" that would later have influence on the evolution of a certain style of soca music.

The full-horn section kadans band Exile One led by Gordon Henderson introduced the newly arrived synthesizers to their music that other young cadence or compas bands from Dominica, Haiti (mini-jazz) and the French Antilles emulated in the 1970s. In the early 1980s, lead guitarist Julie Mourillon of Exile One formed a new group called Roots of Exile. Together, they launched a new beat dubbed "Island Boogie", a fusion of cadence-lypso and North American funk and soul music and toured Africa and Europe.

Exile One and Grammacks were two influential figures in the promotion of cadence-lypso in the 1970s. They were inspirational for Kassav and the emergence of zouk in the 1980s. Exile One was the first kadans band to sign a production contract with a major label called Barclay Records, and the first to export kadans music to the four corners of the globe: Japan, the Indian Ocean, Africa, North America, Europe and The Cape Verde islands.

Wapassou is one of those hard to classify prog group, not really on the rock side of prog, but it would be a shame not to include it, the same way Art Zoyd or Univers Zero are in the archives. Their music is a mix of classical with meditative (almost hippie) moments and spacey ethereal music. Their line-up is just about as unconventional as there is no drums and bass guitar, concentrating between violin, electric guitars and organs. Sounds intriguing? Well it is.

Their first album is still a rough draft of their music to come, but by 76, they were really settled down with their unique sounds somehow between Popol Vuh, Catharsis, Univers Zero and Opus Avantra. Messe En ré Mineur is a double album, and was quite an artistic success. Understandably so, Wapassou repeated the formula for their next two albums with the same kind of success, those three albums apparently forming a trilogy (which have been re-issued by Musea). They had quite a bit of gigs for a period of three years, which left them quite exhausted by the end of the decade.

The group went on to record one other album on a different label then folded as the decade unfolded into the next one.

Total Eclipse is a psychedelic trance band founded in 1992 by three French musicians: Stéphane Holweck, Serge Souque and Loïc Vanpoucke. Stéphane Holweck is now the sole member. Their first tracks appeared on a few compilations in 1993, and by 1994 they had a few singles out with Dragonfly Records and T.I.P. Records. Their first full-length album, Delta Aquarids, and the double CD Violent Relaxation were released in 1995 and 1996 respectively, both on Blue Room Released. Total Eclipse has produced five albums: Delta Aquarids (1995), Violent Relaxation (1996), Access Denied (1999), Update Files (2004), and Tales of the Shaman (2010). Holweck continues to perform; he has played at events in several countries, including Brazil, Hungary, Portugal, Japan, Turkey, France, and the United States.

Total Eclipse has remixed tracks by such artists as Anne Clark, Gong, Juno Reactor, Jungle High, 1200 Mics, and Prana. Their extensive discography includes tracks released on Blue Room Released, TIP, Dragonfly, Twisted Records, Avatar Records, Solstice, Wagram Music, Sony Music, Phonokol, Eye Q, 3D Vision, and Nova Tekk.

Alcest is a French blackgaze and post-metal band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, founded and led by Neige (Stéphane Paut). It began in 2000 as a black metal solo project by Neige, soon a trio, but following the release of their first demo in 2001, band members Aegnor and Argoth left the band, leaving Neige as the sole member. In 2009 drummer Winterhalter from Les Discrets (and formerly Peste Noire) joined Alcest's line-up, after eight years with Neige as the sole full-time member. Since its creation, Alcest has released six studio albums and a number of EPs and split releases. Their fourth album, 2014's Shelter, marked a dramatic shift towards a distinctly shoegaze sound, however their subsequent album Kodama marked a return to their earlier blackgaze sound. The band are widely credited with pioneering the blackgaze/post-black metal genre, particularly through their EP Le Secret released in 2005.

Alcest was formed as a solo project by Neige in 2000. Soon after, the band became a three-piece black metal outfit, consisting of Neige on vocals, rhythm/acoustic guitar, and drums, Argoth on bass, and Aegnor (now known as La sale Famine de Valfunde. Famine used Neige as a drummer and rhythm guitarist in the early years of Peste Noire and Neige even wrote a song, "La Césarienne", for Peste Noire) on lead guitar.

In 2001, the band released a 4-track demo tape entitled Tristesse Hivernale on Drakkar Productions in which Famine wrote the main riff of the song "La Forêt de Cristal". Not long after the demo was released, the band once again became a one-man entity, with Neige taking Alcest in a more personal direction. Neige, having originally formed Alcest as an outlet to create cold and raw black metal, moved away from the minimalist approach with the follow-up to Tristesse Hivernale, entitled Le Secret. This EP, released in May 2005, is an introduction of sorts to the new concept behind the reformed Alcest.

After having signed to Prophecy Productions in March 2007, Alcest's debut album Souvenirs d'un autre monde was released in early August of the same year, and drew comparisons with the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Jesu. According to Pitchfork's Brandon Stosuy, the album "isn't black metal at all", and compared it to "a lighter take on Jesu shoegazing".

In August 2007, Tristesse Hivernale was released by Northern Silence Productions as a split with French black metal band Angmar. The band also released a split EP with the French band Les Discrets on November 30, 2009.

Alcest's second album, Écailles de Lune (Scales of the Moon), was released March 29, 2010. It was a highly anticipated album, and was received with very warm reviews from music critics, with AllMusic's Ned Raggett writing that the album "makes the most of its compelling fusion of black metal's theatricality and the after-echoes of shoegaze's propensity for utterly enveloping a listener, even if bandleader Neige approached that sound unconsciously at first."

The band's third album, Les Voyages de l'Âme, was released on January 6, 2012. The album also received positive reviews from music critics, with The New York Times describing it as "the best example yet of what it [the band] can do."

Alcest's fourth effort entitled Shelter was released on January 17, 2014 via Prophecy Productions. It features Birgir Jón Birgisson as producer, Amiina for the string sections and a guest appearance by Neil Halstead. Stylistically the album is a radical departure for the band, dropping all traces of metal from their sound and fully committing to the shoegaze side of their sound. Neige later said in an interview that "We are proud of it, but I think it was maybe a bit too influenced by other things. I really was obsessed with Slowdive at that time. Shelter still sounds very ‘Alcest’, but maybe not as much as the other records.”

On January 15, 2016, Neige published "New album. Recording started." on the band's Facebook page.[27] He also commented the album would be "definitively darker." On May 16, he stated that the album was in the mastering process. On July 26, the title was revealed to be Kodama, and the release date to be September 30.[28] Neige has said the album is heavily inspired by Japanese art and culture, as well as Hayao Miyazaki's film Princess Mononoke. Musically the album is a return to the band's more traditional blackgaze sound.

On January 22, 2019, the band announced that they would start recording their next studio album the following day. They announced on June 25 2019 that the album would be called Spiritual Instinct and would be released on October 25 of that same year; Neige stated "The recording of Spiritual Instinct has been a long and challenging process." On August 23, 2019, the band released the first single from Spiritual Instinct titled "Protection".


Musical style and concept
As a child, Neige had experiences of being in contact with a "far off country", which he generically refers to as "Fairy Land". Alcest serves as the musical adaptation of the memories from this "otherworld". Neige intends for Alcest to be a journey for the listener to this world through his memories. This change in concept was first introduced on Le Secret. Souvenirs d'un autre monde serves as a literal summation of the concept behind the band.

Musically the band's sound has changed over time. The band's sound is defined by a very atmospheric and uplifting tone. Mort Shuman (12 November 1938 – 2 November 1991) was an American singer, pianist and songwriter, best known as co-writer of many 1960s rock and roll hits, including "Viva Las Vegas". He became a fan of R&B music and after he met Doc Pomus the two teamed up to compose for Aldon Music at offices in New York City's Brill Building. Their songwriting collaboration saw Pomus write the lyrics and Shuman the melody, although occasionally each worked on both. Their compositions would be recorded by artists such as Dion, The Flamingos, Andy Williams, Bobby Darin, Fabian, Ajda Pekkan, The Drifters, and Elvis Presley, among others. Pomus often drew on life events which inspired his creativity. Arriving at the studio, Pomus attempted to assimilate the sound of the horns and penned an introduction to a piece he initially titled "A Crowded Avenue". Later, the work progressed with Shuman, who helped finalize the draft. A chorus was added and the name of the song was changed to "Can't Get Used to Losing You", which became one of the biggest hits for Andy Williams in 1963.

With the advent of the British invasion, they moved to London where they penned songs for a number of British musicians. After the partnership with Doc Pomus ended in 1965, Shuman moved to Paris, France, where he wrote songs for Johnny Hallyday and embarked on his own recording career. One of his hits in the early 1970s was "(Il Neige Sur) Le Lac Majeur". He also wrote a couple of hits in the UK (including The Small Faces, "Sha-La-La-La-Lee" and Cilla Black, "Love's Just A Broken Heart", both co-written with Kenny Lynch), as well as a musical, Budgie (lyrics by Don Black). With the Welsh songwriter Clive Westlake, he wrote "Here I Go Again", which was recorded by The Hollies. Billy J. Kramer enjoyed success with another Shuman song, "Little Children".

In 1968, Shuman teamed with Eric Blau and adapted the French lyrics of songs by the Belgian composer Jacques Brel used as the basis of the successful off-Broadway production Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. Some of the songs from the show were subsequently recorded by Scott Walker, including "Jackie" and "Mathilde". Shuman appeared in both the stage revue and the 1975 film adaptation. Marius Constant - The Twilight Zone Theme - 1959 - OST/classical

Marius Constant (7 February 1925 – 15 May 2004) was a French composer and conductor. Although known in the classical world primarily for his ballet scores, his most widely known music was the iconic guitar theme for The Twilight Zone TV series.

Constant was born in Bucharest, Romania, and studied piano and composition at the Bucharest Conservatory, receiving the George Enescu Award in 1944. In 1946, he moved to Paris, studying at the Conservatoire de Paris with Olivier Messiaen, Tony Aubin, Arthur Honegger and Nadia Boulanger. His compositions earned several prizes. From 1950 on, he was increasingly involved with electronic music and joined Pierre Schaeffer's Groupe de Recherche de Musique Concrète.

From 1956 to 1966, Constant conducted at the Ballets de Paris, then directed by Roland Petit. To this period belong the numerous ballet scores for Petit and Maurice Béjart, namely: Haut-voltage (1956), Contrepointe (1958), Cyrano de Bergerac (1959), Éloge de la folie (1966) and Paradis perdu (1967). For the 1957 Aix-en-Provence Festival, he wrote a piano concerto, but won wider recognition for the premiere, conducted by Leonard Bernstein, of 24 Préludes pour Orchestre (1958). Turner (1961) was a tone poem inspired by the English painter William Turner.

In the late 1950s, Constant was commissioned by Lud Gluskin of CBS to create a number of short pieces for the CBS stock music library that could be used in CBS radio and TV shows. The unusual, sometimes discordant nature of Constant's work meant that the pieces were seldom heard or used. In 1960, Gluskin was asked to find a new theme for the main title and end credits of the CBS television series The Twilight Zone, then entering its second season, to replace the original one by Bernard Herrmann. New pieces submitted by Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Leith Stevens, and others, were considered unsuitable. In desperation, Gluskin edited together two pieces by Constant ("Étrange No. 3", a series of repeated four-note phrases on electric guitar, and "Milieu No. 2", an odd pattern of guitar notes, bongo drums, brass and flutes). The resulting theme quickly became iconic, and is easily Constant's most well-known work. Constant himself was apparently unaware for some years that his music was being used as The Twilight Zone theme. Because the music was part of a "work made for hire" agreement with CBS, Constant derived no ongoing income from it.

In 1963, Constant founded the pioneering Ensemble Ars Nova. In 1970, he took over the musical direction of the ORTF; from 1973 to 1978 he directed at the Paris Opera, and in 1988 and 1989 was Professor of Orchestration at the Paris Conservatory. Besides these appointments, he taught at Stanford University and in Hilversum. Later ballets include Septentrion (1975), Nana (1976) and L'ange bleu (1985). La tragédie de Carmen (1981), his adaptation of Bizet's opera for director Peter Brook, was an international success.

In 1983, he wrote a Symphonie based on Claude Debussy's opera Pelléas et Mélisande. In 1987, he arranged the orchestral music for the ballet Les mariés de la tour Eiffel, a pastiche by various French composers, for an ensemble of 15 instruments. In 1990, he also made an orchestral arrangement of the piano composition Gaspard de la nuit by Maurice Ravel. He returned to Debussy's Pelleas in 1992 when he abridged and arranged Debussy's score for two pianos in a Peter Brooks production entitled Impressions of Pelleas.

He died in Paris in 2004, aged 79.

Jean-Jacques Kodjo, a.k.a. Zoxea, was born on November 11, 1974 in Sèvres, Hauts-de-Seine. He was brought up in the Castéja Project of Boulogne-Billancourt in the suburb of Paris.

He is one of the three members of Les Sages Poètes de la Rue (The Wise Poets of the Street) with his brother Melopheelo and Dany Dan. They made their first apparition on the hip-hop scene in 1993 on the Cool Sessions compilation and on the original soundtrack of the classic La Haine with on Baiser du Poste (With love from the Police station).

Les Sages Poètes de la Rue released their first album Qu’est ce qui fait marcher les Sages (What makes the wise guys walk) in 1995. Far from the hardcore trend, Zoxea and his mates prefer an old-school approach on jazzy vibes.

With the success of this first album, Zoxea and Les Sages Po’ form their own structure: Beat de Boul, in order to help the groups of their area to make it into the hip hop industry. Amongst these groups are the famous Lunatic, Malekal Morte, Movez’ Lang and Less du Neuf. Beat de Boul releases Dans la Sono (In the Soundsystem) in 1997 and les Sages Po’ come back the following year 1998 with their second album Jusqu’à l’Amour (Till Love) and are acclaimed by both their public and the media.

Zoxea takes advantage of this success to launch his solo career. He collaborates with Busta Flex on his eponymous album where he produces the hit J’fais mon job à plein temps (I do my job full-time), and he takes part to the Freestyle Sessions with NTM (Joey Starr and Kool Shen). He also supports them on stage during the national tour 93 Party and produces On est encore là (We’re still there) a track on their eponymous album. Finally he creates the crew IV My People with Kool Shen and Busta Flex.

In February 1999, Zoxea releases his first album solo : À mon tour d’briller (It's my turn to shine). The album goes gold by the end of the same year and show the talent of Zoxea as a solo artist with great featuring such as Beat de Boul, Don Choa, Lord Kossity, Melopheelo and Kool Shen.

In 2000, Zoxea takes part to the second episode of Beat de Boul: Dans la Ville (In the City), with Melopheelo and Dany Dan but also Movez’ Lang, Nysay and Sir Doum's.

Les Sages Poètes de la Rue make it back to the studio in 2002 for their third album Après l’Orage (After the Storm). Après l’Orage proves that Zoxea, Melopheelo and Dany Dan still have the magic of their glorious beginning.

In 2003, Zoxea and his brother Melopheelo form their own label: KDBZik, to preserve their independent spirit. In 2004, they release Zoxea's second album solo: Dans la Lumière (In the Light). The same year, Zoxea realises the hit Un Ange dans le Ciel (An Angel in the Sky) and appears on two tracks of Dernier Round (Last Round) the solo album of Kool Shen.

The following year sees the release of the fourth album of Les Sages Poètes de la Rue: Trésors Enfouis (Hidden Treasures). The public still loyal to the band welcomes this album “concept”.

In 2006, Zoxea appears in featuring with the R&B phenomenon M. Pokora on l’Enfer du Samedi Soir (Saturday Night Hell). The following year, Zoxea comes back with Beat de Boul and its third episode: Dans un Autre Monde (In Another World).

Zoxea has been an artist resident at the CENTQUATRE, a Parisian place of artistic creation, from February to October 2009 to work on his third solo album.

Zoxea is also planning to go back to the recording studio with Les Sages Poètes de la Rue to work on their fifth album, which will be another occasion to bring their peaceful and jazzy touch to the hip-hop.

Album:
À mon tour d'briller is an album composed of fourteen tracks (plus a hidden one). On the production side, Kool Shen is of course the executive producer, but also Madizm who signs the Intro and the Interlude (L'An 2000 approche II) as well as the instruments of À mon tour d'briller, Contrôle and Chacun sa voie. However, Zoxea also shows his talents not only as a rapper but also as a producer by making most of the beats on the album with Rap, music I love, La pression, La rée vers le roro, Soirée d'guedin, Vengeance, Star du guetto, Y a qu'ça à faire and the ghost track Ne te prends pas pour le seigneur. Note that his brother of the Sages po Melopheelo also manifests himself in the production by directing L'hymne du mozoezet (La, la, la, la, la, la, la...).

In the vocal part, after an intro in a tango style where scratches follow one another and on which Zoxea announces the colour, Kool Shen introduces the eponymous title and passes the relay to Zoxea who affirms that he is well determined and that nobody will prevent him from shining. We find just after the biggest classic of the rapper: Rap, music that I love, which was already present on the EP La rée vers le roro. On a nostalgic instrument, Zoxea talks about the setbacks of rap, regretting that few people understand her, preferring profit to respect, but that whatever happens, the artist loves this music as if it were his wife. A change of atmosphere on the next track where the rapper, supported by Kool Shen, finds that too many young people are increasingly losing control. Then comes The Pressure. On a rather dark production, the MC describes life punctuated by "constant pressure". Then follows a live improvisation where Zoxea shows on stage that he is one of the best in this field. Logically follows the egotrip La rée vers le roro in which the singer-songwriter, accompanied by Busta Flex, technically unleashes himself on the instrumental and where Busta goes on with alliterations and assonances, breaking down the first part of his blase by successively putting down the B, the U, the S, the T and the A. It continues a little more quietly with Melopheelo featuring the drunk rapper from IV My People who humorously recounts a Soirée d'guedin. The "alcoholic" atmosphere continues on a totally crazy interlude as well as on the Hymne du mozoezet, a track where the artist performs a kind of egotrip while being "torn". Then, a multitude of MCs from Beat De Boul, Don Choa from the Fonky Family, I.M.S, LIM, Pass Partoo and Nysay composed of rappers Salif and EXS, accompany Zoxea for a Vengeance. It is then in another climate, on a very melancholic instrument, that Zoxea announces that everyone can't do what they want and that in life it's Everyone has their own way. The Star of the guetto then imposes himself on an energetic instrument where he claims his status of S.D.G. Finally, Lord Kossity is invited on the pose Y'a qu'ça à faire, half egotrip, half a little more thoughtful where the two colleagues explain why they kick while criticizing the jealous. A hidden track really concludes the album in which Zoxea warns: Don't take yourself for the lord.

À mon tour d'briller is a very varied album mixing deep lyrics, sad observations, powerful egotrips, deliriums made in a "second state" and of course, the will to shine.

French pop chanteuse Chimène Badi vaulted to national fame via the hit reality TV talent showcase Pop Stars.
Born in the Paris suburb of Melun on October 30, 1982, Badi grew up in the south of France, and at age six made her musical debut at a local amateur contest.
While studying agriculture she recorded a series of demo tapes, but found no interest from labels. In 2002, Badi auditioned for the second season of the M6 Network's Pop Stars, and while she failed to move on to the finals, her powerhouse performances attracted the attention of juror Valéry Zeitoun, the director of the AZ label, who immediately extended a contract offer.
Badi's debut single, the Rick Allison-penned ballad "Entre Nous," became a huge hit, selling more than a million copies between the French, Swiss, and Belgian markets and lent its title to her debut LP, released in early 2003.
The follow-up singles "Je Vais Te Chercher" and "Si J'avais Su T'aimer" both topped the French charts, establishing Badi as the spiritual heir to the power ballad tradition of Celine Dion, and in mid-2003 she toured in support of French pop legend Johnny Hallyday. Her sophomore album, Dis-Moi Que Tu M'aimes, followed in the autumn of 2004, generating three number one hits: "Je Ne Sais Pas Son Nom," "Retomber Amoureux," and "Je Viens du Sud."
The concert set Live à l'Olympia, documenting Badi's February 2005 appearances at the legendary Paris music hall, hit retail in early 2006, and was swiftly followed up by her third studio album Le Miroir. Roméo Johnny Elvis Kiki Van Laeken, better known by his stage name Roméo Elvis (French pronunciation: ​[ʁɔmeo elvis]), is a Belgian rapper and hip hop artist.


His career began with the release of two EPs in 2013 and 2014, titled "Bruxelles c'est devenu la jungle" and "Famille nombreuse". In 2016, his album EP Morale was released. In 2017 and 2018, two more albums were released: Morale 2 and his reissue Morale 2 luxe (released from his collaboration with producer Le Motel). He has close connections with the Belgian group L'Or du Commun, the duo Caballero & JeanJass, and French rapper Lomepal.


Roméo Elvis was born on December 13, 1992 in Uccle, Belgium. Interested in music since his youth, he developed a style distinct from that of his father, the singer Marka, his mother, the comedian Laurence Bibot, and his younger sister, the singer and pianist Angèle. Roméo Elvis was raised in Linkebeek, in the southern suburbs of Brussels, and later relocated to Forest.

After college, he continued his secondary studies at Saint-Luc Tournai Institute where he learned to paint and draw. It was during this time that Elvis began rapping with his friends. His artistic training continued at ESA 75, in Brussels, where he studied photo-journalism. While continuing to practice rap, he became close to members of L'Or du Commun.

While his first EPs were being released, Roméo Elvis was working as a cashier at the supermarket chain Carrefour. Despite his success, he was not able to earn enough money from rapping alone. Shortly before the release of the album Bruxelles arrive, he quit his job and devoted himself solely to music. His newest EP, Morale 2luxe, was released on February 15, 2018. Morale 2luxe is a remake of his album, Morale 2, released in March 2017.

Elvis suffers from tinnitus, common among musicians. He has made references to this condition in many of his titles, such as L'oreille sifflante and Ma tête. In an interview with Radio Nova, he explained that if he could earn a substantial income from rapping he would donate some of it to fight the disease.

The musical style of Roméo Elvis has evolved with the progression of his projects. While developing old-school instrumentals and a flow with similar ambiance to his first two EPs, his collaboration with the producer Le Motel on Morale and Morale 2 profoundly changed his style. He currently allows himself to make more refrains and add electronic instrumentals, and in accord with the jazz of Le Motel, giving them a more current tone.[9]

Elvis' influences are numerous: the Belgian group L'or du Commun with which he made his rapping debut is one of his main ones. Their style can also be recognized in his first two projects with group members. He also frequently mentions the rapper Caballero as someone who greatly inspired him; they met while Bruxelles arrive was being recorded. Concerning French rap, Elvis considers the rapper Alpha Wann of the group 1995 as "the rap master playing for me in terms of placement and in terms of how to say things in a very meaningful way". Fuzati, leader of Klub des Loosers, strongly influences the rapper. Primarily in his somber aspect, but also in the manner that the rapper holds plenty of derision towards life. He also references the masked rapper in many of his titles, like in Drôle de décision. Elvis is also a fan of the French artist Philippe Katerine.

The band's name apparently originates from the lead singer once having a haircut as a child that was similar to that of Playmobil figures.

Album:
Episode 2: Medecine Cake is the second album by French nu metal band Pleymo. Released on June 5, 2002, by Epic Records, it was recorded with alternate vocal tracks in French and English languages. The English version of the album was released under the title Doctor Tank's Medicine Cake. The album sold over 50,000 copies.

The musical style of Episode 2: Medecine Cake leans heavily toward hip hop. An alternate English language version of the album was released, although the French-language version of the album contains some lyrics sung in English. The English-language version of the album is also a different mix, deleting the scratching from the song "New Wave", the interlude from "World", and guest vocals from the leader of the French band Wünjo from the "Compact". The French version also features a song not found on the English version, "Casino". Weather this song was recorded with English vocals but never released is still unknown. The album's concept is tied around comic book artwork drawn by vocalist Mark.

When the album was issued in Japan, the import edition featured the song "K-Ra", taken directly from their previous album Keçkispasse, without any changes.

Danakil is a French roots reggae band created in 2000 by a group of Parisian college students. The band quickly gained acclaim due to the many concerts and festivals they performed in. The band continues to transmit its message through a music mixing reggae and world music.

Beginnings
Danakil is a reggae band started in 2000 by a group of college students studying music at the "Louis de Broglie" university in Marly-le-Roi, near Paris. The name Danakil comes from the Ethiopian desert.

The band first toured in 2005, following which they sold close to a million demo discs. Their first album, Microclimat, came out on 28 April 2006. It was released under the Essembe Prod label and was distributed by Believe Digital. The success of this album convinced the band to further pursue their musical career. They began getting involved with the production company MusicAction when preparations for a second album started.

In their early years, Danakil performed in many small concerts and bars, helping them expand their fan base. The band then started touring with other musician groups such as Saïan Supa Crew. Their endorsement with MusicAction allowed them to participate in bigger reggae festivals such as the Reggae Sun Ska, the Dour festival, Esperanza, SummerJam and to perform concerts alongside widely known bands such as Groundation.

In 2008, Danakil released their second album, Dialogue de Sourds. The album contained collaborations with Mighty Diamonds, General Levy and Jah Mason.


2009–10
In 2009, having performed close to 300 concerts, the band was awarded the Best French Reggae Award at the Web Reggae Awards 2008. Danakil performed in the Olympia music hall in 2009, one of the biggest concerts in the band's history. In this concert, the band also paid tribute to Edith Piaf by performing a reggae version of her song Non, je ne regrette rien. In April 2009, the band released their first live album/DVD, filmed at the Cabaret Sauvage in Paris in November 2008. The DVD contains a live recording of the concert as well as footage of a camera crew that followed the band during their tour. The objective of this bonus footage was to provide fans with a more complete image of the group as well as an opportunity to learn about the individual members' personalities.

The band performed on the main stage for the 2010 Fête de l'Humanité. For their first concert in Africa, Danakil performed in Bamako, Mali, for the 80th anniversary of the coronation of Haile Selassie I along with dub artist Manjul. This first concert outside France led the group to perform in other countries such as Belgium, Switzerland and Canada.


2011
To promote the release of their third album, Danakil did not use any advertisements or radio announcements, preferring the use of street teams to promote the album. The teams were made of fans who volunteered all over France and who put up posters and flyers advertising the band's album. The band also announced that during the March–April 2011 tour, limited edition copies of the third album would be handed out to attending fans. Balik, the singer of the band, said that this was done to help stop illegal downloading of music and to promote concert attendance.

Recording of the third studio album took place in Paris, Bamako and Kingston. This was a voluntary decision made by the band in the hopes of bringing more foreign sounds into the album.

On 18 March 2011, Danakil performed at the Zénith de Paris alongside other reggae performers such as Winston McAnuff and Brahim, who performed J'Entends Les Cris. The band also performed Non, je ne regrette rien, their tribute song to French singer Edith Piaf.

2012–16

In February 2012, the band won the Best French Reggae Album award at the 2012 Reggae Victory Awards. In June 2012, the band released their first Dub album, Echos du Dub, which contains dub versions of some songs from Echos du Temps produced by Manjul. The band performed in the Solidays concerts, a music festival that raises awareness on AIDS, on 23 June 2012. Around this time period, the band's success despite their unpopularity with the media becomes a part of the band's image. On 1 October 2012 the band released a live CD and DVD of their March concert at the Cigale music hall.

In February 2013, the band won the Best French Reggae Album award from Echos du Dub and Best Live Album award for Live on Air a la Cigale at the 2013 Reggae Victory Awards.

In February 2014, Danakil released a new album entitled Entre les lines. Four singles were released from this album: Le Rêve, Ne Touche Pas, Mali Mali, and L'Or Noir.

In 2016, the band announces a new album La Rue Raisonne, and a new tour.

Albert Roussel - Le festin de l'araignée - 1912 - Classical

Albert Charles Paul Marie Roussel (French: [albɛːʁ ʁusɛl]; 5 April 1869 – 23 August 1937) was a French composer. He spent seven years as a midshipman, turned to music as an adult, and became one of the most prominent French composers of the interwar period. His early works were strongly influenced by the impressionism of Debussy and Ravel, while he later turned toward neoclassicism.

Born in Tourcoing (Nord), Roussel's earliest interest was not in music but mathematics. He spent time in the French Navy, and in 1889 and 1890, he served on the crew of the frigate Iphigénie and spent several years in southern Vietnam. These travels affected him artistically, as many of his musical works would reflect his interest in far-off, exotic places.

After resigning from the Navy in 1894, he began to study harmony in Roubaix, first with Julien Koszul (grandfather of composer Henri Dutilleux), who encouraged him to pursue his formation in Paris with Eugène Gigout, then continued his studies until 1908 at the Schola Cantorum de Paris where one of his teachers was Vincent d'Indy. While studying, he also taught. His students included Erik Satie and Edgard Varèse.

During World War I, he served as an ambulance driver on the Western Front. Following the war, he bought a summer house in Normandy and devoted most of his time there to composition.

Starting in 1923, another of Roussel's students was Bohuslav Martinů, who dedicated his Serenade for Chamber Orchestra (1930) to Roussel.

His sixtieth birthday was marked by a series of three concerts of his works in Paris that also included the performance of a collection of piano pieces, Homage to Albert Roussel, written by several composers, including Ibert, Poulenc, and Honegger.

Roussel died in the village (commune) of Royan (Charente-Maritime), in western France, in 1937, and was buried in the churchyard of Saint Valery in Varengeville-sur-Mer (Normandy).

Compositions
By temperament Roussel was predominantly a classicist. While his early work was strongly influenced by impressionism in music, he eventually arrived at a personal style which was more formal in design, with a strong rhythmic drive, and with a more distinct affinity for functional tonality than is found in the work of his more famous contemporaries Debussy, Ravel, Satie, and Stravinsky.

Roussel's training at the Schola Cantorum, with its emphasis on rigorous academic models such as Palestrina and Bach, left its mark on his mature style, which is characterized by contrapuntal textures. On the whole Roussel's orchestration is rather heavy compared to the subtle and nuanced style of other French composers like Debussy or, indeed, Gabriel Fauré. He preserved something of the romantic aesthetic in his orchestral works, and this sets him apart from Stravinsky and Les Six. However, Roussel's music can hardly be called heavy when compared with the sound of the German romantic orchestral tradition represented by Anton Bruckner and Gustav Mahler.

He was also interested in jazz. This interest led to his writing a piano-vocal composition entitled Jazz dans la nuit, which was similar in its inspiration to other jazz-inspired works such as the second movement of Ravel's Violin Sonata, or Milhaud's La création du monde.

Roussel's most important works were the ballets Le festin de l'araignée, Bacchus et Ariane, and Aeneas and the four symphonies, of which the Third in G minor, and the Fourth in A major, are highly regarded and epitomize his mature neoclassical style. His other works include numerous ballets, orchestral suites, a piano concerto, a concertino for cello and orchestra, a psalm setting for chorus and orchestra, incidental music for the theatre, and much chamber music, solo piano music, and songs.



Impressionism in music was a movement among various composers in Western classical music (mainly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries) whose music focuses on mood and atmosphere, "conveying the moods and emotions aroused by the subject rather than a detailed tone‐picture". "Impressionism" is a philosophical and aesthetic term borrowed from late 19th-century French painting after Monet's Impression, Sunrise. The Spider's Feast (Le Festin de l'araignée), Op. 17, is a 1912 "ballet-pantomime" with music by the French composer Albert Roussel (1869–1937) to a scenario by Gilbert de Voisins.

The ballet depicts insect life in a garden, evoked by the flute solo at the opening and close of the work, and where insects are trapped in the spider's web, but when the spider prepares to begin its feast, it in turn is killed by a praying mantis. The funeral procession of the mayfly concludes the work. The full ballet lasts approximately half an hour.

Odezenne is a French music group from the city of Bordeaux in southwestern France. Their sound has been characterised as being notably eclectic. The group consists of Alix, Jacques, and Mattia who were childhood friends. The group has released three studio albums, one EP, and multiple music videos.

Alix and Mattia met in middle school. The former is from Île-de-France, and the latter is from Milan. The inspiration for the group's name comes from this period. "Odezenne was the name of our old principal. We used it in a freestyle and it made us laugh, so we kept it," explains Alix. In 2005, the group was initially called O2zen (which has a phonetic similarity in French to Odezenne). The two friends later met Jacques, from Choisy-le-Roi, who at the time went by Jaco H17.

The group started recording their first songs between 2005 and 2007. A friend offered them their first gig at Inca, an underground bar known throughout the city of Bordeaux as being the place where many local groups first played. Odezenne filled the room and returned to the bar three more times in April 2007. They decided to record an album, put on concerts, and start their label, Universeul, since they wanted to be independent. Released in November 2008, their first studio album, titled Sans chantilly, was well received by critics.

In March 2011, after eleven months in the studio, the group released their second album, a concept album by the name of O.V.N.I. _Orchestre Virtuose National et Incompétent, the acronym of which also doubles as the acronym for UFO in French. This time, the album was sold in some stores. With their growing popularity, Odezenne released a deluxe version of the album in 2012 with five new songs, calling it "L'édition Louis XIV" (the Louis XIV Edition).

Since the end of 2011, the group has released a series of music videos, exclusively produced by Universeul, which have strongly helped launch the group. The first was for the song "Gomez" and was directed by Selim Bentounes, followed by "Taxi," directed by Adrien Benoliel. It was the video for "Tu pu du cu" that was the group's first big hit on the web. The young director Romain Winkler became more and more active with the group and directed the videos for "Saxophone," "Chewing-gum," "Rien" (Nothing), "Je veux te baiser" (I Want to Fuck You), and "Vilaine."

In late 2012 the group was named on the FAIR 2013, a list of musicians chosen by a French music publication, which helped solidify Odezenne's presence in the French music scene. Their reputation afforded them a spot in many of the largest music festival in the summer of 2014, notably Les Vieilles Charrues, the Eurockéennes of Belfort, the Paléo Festival in Switzerland, the Solidays, Francofolies of La Rochelle, and Fusion Festival in Germany. In October 2013, the group released a live EP recorded at Vivres de l'art in Bordeaux to celebrate their hundredth concert.

On 21 April 2014, the group released "Rien" (Nothing), which was later released as a part of an EP of the same name in May 2014. The EP was mainly known thanks to the music video for "Je veux te baiser" (I want to fuck you). The video was an instant hit due to the subject matter and quickly went viral on social media.

Following a winter trip in Berlin that lasted several months, Odezenne released Dolziger Str. 2 on 13 November 2015. The first single, "Bouche à lèvres," was released as a music video which was widely spread on social networks despite its –18 warning. A total of six videos were made for the album. The album received wide success notably due to its rich sound, propped by texts of rare depth, that blur the border between chanson and rap. A particular craze surrounded the release of the album, even making the cover of Les Inrockuptibles and the band's selection as best new artist by Apple Music.
The album is followed by a tour of over 100 shows including most notably a series of seven concerts at SXSW in Austin.

At fifteen, the young man discovered Georges Brassens thanks to his sister's records. He admired the false misogynist in Brassens, whose wife he felt he was celebrating. This taught him an image of woman, as opposed to the image of his father, who, often drunk, used to beat his mother.

This makes him want to put his taste for words at the service of the Creole language. Like all Reunionese of his generation, Danyel Waro did not grow up listening to maloya. This Indian Ocean blues, with its African, Malagasy and Indian roots, had practically disappeared. Unofficially banned, it only survived in a few families before being rescued by the Reunionese Communist Party (PCR) which was very popular on the island at the time and which campaigned for the autonomy of this French overseas department.

Sensitised to this political struggle by his father, a fervent communist activist, the young man fell in love with maloya when he attended a concert in 1970 in Firmin Viry (where he was to be an apprentice), organised by the local PCR daily newspaper, Témoignages. Although he saw this music as a political weapon against the metropolitan power, it above all gave him the opportunity to discover himself and to become fully aware of his Reunionese identity.

Alone, he learns the rhythm, starts to make his own percussions. On December 27th 1975, he gave his first maloya concert with a group of young farm workers. 2 His failure in the baccalaureate, after having been a strike leader in his final year of high school, precipitated his incorporation in 1976 to do his military service in mainland France. The young anti-militarist refused to wear the uniform. He knows the consequences of insubordination: 22 months in prison. It was in his cell at the detention centre in Ecrouves that he wrote his first texts in Creole, which were published in 1978 under the title Romans ékri dan la zol an frans.

There, he showed a rage for writing and activism that he put into practice by opposing Michel Debré's politics during his stay in Reunion Island for electoral reasons. In his songs written in captivity, he denounces in particular the work of BUMIDOM. This institution is thus denounced in Gafourn and Batarsité.

In 1975-1976, on his return to Reunion Island, he took part in the Kabars, which will deliver from silence, shame and oblivion the maloya, a musical genre hitherto banned and influenced by the songs of slaves. During these years, he militated within the Reunionese Communist Party from which he distanced himself in the 1990s.
