Whatcha listening to?
Whatcha listening to?
Hi! I’m the new guy here! I’m also a pretty new avid music listener. So I want to know: what are you listening to? You can post any song, album, or artist you are currently listening to. I might listen to it, and maybe even give my opinion on it. So if you want to post what you are currently listening to, post it here!

Hey! A song I’ve been obsessed with lately is Scatterlings of Africa by Johnny Clegg and Savuka (the original version is good but not as good). I also have been listening to HOT TO GO! by Chappell Roan a lot, but I feel like you don’t need me to tell you about that one…

Re: Whatcha listening to?
At this specific time I'm listening to a recording of The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, conducted by Antal Doráti with the London Symphony Orchestra. The record also contains other pieces by Stravinsky. I wanted to just do The Firebird, which is amazing, but I stayed for the other tracks as well, as they are consistently great.
Re: Whatcha listening to?
As someone who knows next to nothing about Alice In Chains and couldn’t name you one of their songs if my life depended on it, I thought this was great. Probably an 8-8.5/10 for me.

I don't know much by them either, but I would recommend possibly their signature song, Man in the Box. Pretty sure it made my list, and if it didn't, it got close.

Thanks for all the great recommendations, everyone! I’m still busy listening to them, but I would like to recommend to you one of my favorite songs from last year, Any Time of Day by The Lemon Twigs.

Lately I’ve gotten into Joy Division again. Their two studio albums are so great and also unlike almost anything else. Absolutely recommend, along with their many great non-album singles!

I am also currently listening to every Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album. I really started listening to them on a whim, knowing basically nothing about the band, but I listened to Ghosteen one night, and it was absolutely beautiful. I’ve listened to their first 4 albums so far (From Her to Eternity, The Firstborn Is Dead, Kicking Against Pricks, and Your Funeral… My Trial) and they are all fantastic. Tender Prey is next, which is supposed to be one of his best albums, so I might listen to it tomorrow afternoon.

I've been listening to the AMF top 10k playlist on Spotify quite a bit. I'd never had spotify until the past year, so it's been to finally have access to such easy streaming. As far as new releases, Kaleidoscope by TURQUOISEDEATH has been a great new discovery, and as far as older music, I've gotten obsessed with Carissa's Wierd
Re: Whatcha listening to?
I’ve been listening to the top 10k list too. I’ve currently listened from #10,000 to #9,679 (You Were Right by Badly Drawn Boy). Lately, though, I’ve been listening to the top 3k albums list. I am currently in the middle of #2,966 (Quartets - Live at the Village Vanguard by Joe Lovano.)acroamor wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 9:31 pm I've been listening to the AMF top 10k playlist on Spotify quite a bit. Re: Whatcha listening to?
A few months ago, I found a guy on YouTube that is also listening through the albums list and he does a review of every album. He started almost 2 1/2 years ago but is already almost through the bottom 900. I’m not sure if he knows about the upcoming update, though. Here’s the link to his channel:

If you're interested in Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (good choice, by the way) you may find useful our poll about him/them, you can find on the following likns the results and the individual lists.Rubyzilla wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 8:34 pm I am also currently listening to every Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album. Welcome here, Rubyzilla!
Since you mentioned Nick Cave and The Lemon Twigs, I guess you may also be interested in Wild Pink and The Decemberists, who just released new albums I highly recommend this year!

Re: Whatcha listening to?
Just now I listened to Björk's Live Box from 2023, which was originally a deluxe CD set with an additional DVD. I listened to it on Spotify. It consists of four seperate concert "CD's", one for each of the albums released up until that point: Debut, Post, Homogenic and Vespertine (the soundtrack Selmasongs was skipped). Although roughly four hours it was a long experience it was also really a revelation. Björk might be even better live than in the studio. She really transforms many of her songs live. On the live Debut she goes as far as to changing the trip-hop sound into an almost tribal acoustic live show. Some songs that didn't click with me before suddenly become favorites.
In the future I will probably listen to each concert separately and not the whole thing in one sitting (and they were released as such a year later), but in total this might just end up being my favorite release by her. I know that there are quite a few listeners, here and elsewhere, than ignore or even shun live albums, but anyone who likes Björk shouldn't miss this.

I was on a "Loser" kick a few months ago, so I guess our music tastes are pretty similar

Re: Whatcha listening to?
Listened to Travis Scott's Utopia recently - idk how I feel about the whole album but I really liked "My Eyes", even with the autotune.
Also been listening to the album Heaven or Las Vegas - it gets better and better with every listen even though I initially didn't like it.
Also also been enjoying the song "Cherry Waves" by Deftones. I haven't listened to their other songs much, but will have to check them out.

Please let us know which of the 21 or so portions of the Dorati Firebird tracks would recommend most highly?Rob wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 12:27 pm At this specific time I'm listening to a recording of The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, conducted by Antal Doráti with the London Symphony Orchestra. I discovered the Free Creek Sessions from 1968 about two weeks ago. If you enjoy Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Keith Emerson or Linda Ronstadt you might want to give these songs a try. They are available on YouTube, but I have not yet found them on AppleMusic.
There is also a cover of Hey Jude at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiatwhYFhJs

I mean, it is a ballet, which is not really a singles based genre. But I guess if you really only want to sample highlights I recommend Round Dance of the Princesses or Infernal Dance of All Kashchei's Subject's.Henry wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 12:02 amPlease let us know which of the 21 or so portions of the Dorati Firebird tracks would recommend most highly?Rob wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 12:27 pm At this specific time I'm listening to a recording of The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, conducted by Antal Doráti with the London Symphony Orchestra. The live version of "Declare Independence" in Paris 2008 made my 2007 song list over the original cause I thought that version did the song more errr... justice.Rob wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:49 pm Just now I listened to Björk's Live Box from 2023, which was originally a deluxe CD set with an additional DVD. Furthermore live highlights, "Army Of Me" with Skunk Anansie was absolutely vicious and 1994's "Big Time Sensuality" in the yellow / lime dress, "And I just don't want to, I JUSS don't waahhnntuuuu-aaaghh" - Adorable!
Re: Whatcha listening to?
The William Maranci mashup of Queen and Cardi B, "Bohemian Wapsody". I tend not to like throwing the word "masterpiece" around but I'm going to call this a bit of a creative masterpiece - one is a worldwide classic and one is recently acclaimed, yet William's experiment still single handedly wipes the memory of the two songs from its original form.
From mama mia to macaroni - INSPIRING! Still the best thing to come out of the 2020s, for me.

Oh, that’s brilliant. I love a good mashup.
