Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
Kicking off our discussion for the best songs 2024 has to offer.
The first great song I have heard this year is "DASH" by NMIXX: innovative production that fuses R&B, Hip-hop, Jazz with funky syncopated beat, a waterfall of vocal textures throughout (and incredible vocal performances) and a killer hook.

I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on "DASH" and the other great songs you've seen this year. I'm also eager to hear what other people are enjoying so we can build a comprehensive list of must-listen tracks. Feel free to share any hidden gems, established hits, or anything in between that's tickling your ears!

Megan Thee Stallion dropped a track that aims directly at Nicki's husband, Tory Lanez and probably Drake. The line "These hoes don't be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan's Law" is so brutalrosi9x wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 4:52 am I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on "DASH" and the other great songs you've seen this year. Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake's new single makes me drop all hopes for his album. Just awful.

(To be watched with subtitles on) There are (very rare) times when I'm happy to be alive in this time, and this kind of videos is one of the reasons
(More context: this band is actually developing fast a strong cult following and it's not hard to guess why)

Re: Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
New Vampire Weekend singles suddenly dropped on Spotify, they’re good! They sound like Father of the Bride era stuff but with some production flourishes a la Contra, I guess?
Did anyone else know these were releasing today? Total surprise for me.

"Coma" from the deluxe version of Desire, I Want To Turn Into You by Caroline Polachek is one of most incredible songs I've heard this year. The production is absolutely stunning (is this Drum'n'Bass?), possessing a slightly off-kilter aggressiveness as well as a dreamy quality that is enchanting. As always, Caroline is one of the rare non-mainstream singers who can actually SANG.

Been looking forward to these for a while... Quite underwhelmed at first but after a few listens I love 'Capricorn' now. The production is superb and the drums sound amazing. I imagine with a few more listens 'Gen-X Cops' will grow on me too.FrankLotion wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 8:51 am New Vampire Weekend singles suddenly dropped on Spotify, they’re good! The new song by Fontaines DC, Starburster, is amazing. Quite an evolution from their previous sound - much more upbeat / aggressive than recent work. New favourite song of the year so far.
Re: Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
The indie crowd's favorite K-Pop group NewJeans comes back with another great song "How Sweet". It's not an immediate hit like "Super Shy" but the vocal melodies are damn gorgeous. https://open.spotify.com/track/38tXZcL1 ... 6dde95431a
Re: Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
I like the new Los Campesinos singles, especially the first one.
With Steve Albini's passing, I wouldn't be shocked if Shellac ended with their first AM ranked song with I Don't Fear Hell.

"Baddy On The Floor" is great but the song with Robyn is just alright.

The new Alan Sparhawk song is crazy, even with the sonic adventurousness of the latest Low albums, I wouldn't have imagined anything quite like it :
Re: Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
Ya Ya by Beyonce is my favorite song of the year so far, so I'm sorry for the little plug, but I have to shout out one of my good friends who just produced this video and got Beyonce to rework the song to introduce Team USA to kick off the Olympics. I was at the shoot with Sha'Carri Richardson, and it's just so cool to see how this all came together.

Re: Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
2024 is doing a bang up job in trying to qualify itself as a sequel for 2008. We have some music from one of Portishead, Beth Gibbons and now we're getting some from one of The B-52s, Kate Pierson ("Evil Love") and one of Goldfrapp, err.. Alison Goldfrapp ("I Just Wanna Be Loved") !!
Charli XCX, Beyonce, Vampire Weekend, Julia Holter, Four Tet, Kings Of Leon, Taylor Swift, Usher, Actress, Black Keys, Sheryl Crow, Liam Gallagher, Travis, Moby, Dandy Warhols, Kid Cudi, Sia, Kanye West have already waved hello to 2024 after blowing 2008 a kiss once before with albums and EPs

Re: Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
Depends, if a single released in early November 2023 would suffice as a 2024 song, hands down “Jenny” by Fat Dads. If not, I’ll give single of the year to the Otherness with “You Are the Reason for It.” Followed by Lives’ “Cancelled.”
Re: Songs of 2024 Discussion Thread
Billy Tibbals is my favorite underground musician rn. I think
y’all will really like him. He fuses 70s glam with power pop
and I think he has the potential to save rock music. Not
saying that acts like Maneskin or Olivia Rodrigo is bad but…
Check out his new EP “Nightlife Stories” from this year:
