Stevejazz is one of the biggest connoisseurs of pre-rock music on this forum and today he proves it once again with an interpretation of a blues standard from 1928. It is bubblin’ under on AM, although half of the votes there come from Stevejazz himself.

425. Lonnie Johnson – Careless Love
Year: 1928
Released as a single
Biggest Fan: stevejazz (#594)

Lonnie Johnson – Careless Love: 7
Very mellow, laid-back blues with a lot of fingerpicking. Not a masterwork of the genre or even of Lonnie Johnson's output, but likeable.

A few days ago we had the song with many streams by Slipknot, but even that one doesn’t even have half the streams of today’s track. It is the song that currently has the honor to have been on Billboard for the fourth longest time. All this didn’t help making it stick with critics though, as the band isn’t on AM yet. Luckily, the city of Phoenix appreciates them more as they have been Live in Phoenix several times.

427. AWOLNATION - Sail
Year: 2010
EP: Back from Earth / LP: Megalithic Symphony
Biggest Fan: Live in Phoenix (#853)

I assume this song was on Live in Phoenix' list, not Schüttelbirne's?

Although no doubt Schüttelbirne now wishes he included the song on his list, you are correct. I fixed it.

Like more soul songs of it’s day, today’s track was released as a single in two parts. Since Michel didn’t mention any specific part and it sometimes doesn’t really seem to matter with such songs I have added both parts and ask you to vote as them as a whole (unless Michel shows up and says otherwise).

Lee Moses – Bad Girl: 8
Hmm, now I'm not so sure about adding the second part. It's hardly like What'd I Say or something where the second part seems integral. It's more like a second recording of the same song. Otherwise it is very good. Rather rough for its genre, but in a good way.

When the band was somewhat in a mid-way point between shoegaze/ dreampop and a more harder rock sound. I really like My Bloody Valentine more in this mode than in their more acclaimed gazing Loveless state.

It's kind of interesting that usual when we get Latin American music here it is also very clearly regional music, but this mostly sounds like pop that happens to be sung in Spanis and no accordeon (?) can change that. Which is not a criticism, as this is catchy stuff.

There are a lot of songs titled One. The most famous are no doubt by U2 and Metallica. In the previous edition of Biggest Fan we had a One by Harry Nilsson. Cadavaca opts for a more obscure song with that title though.

Not a song that reveals itself after one try, but it's mix of noise rock and frantic chanting becomes more appealing with each listen.

Gal Costa – Cinema Olympiado: 7
Not one of those smooth Brazilian classics we get every now and then, but rather one that embraces the messy vibes of psychedelic rock. Kind of cool.

Rob is back with another Killer of a track. This time even critics agree with me, as you can find this song at #4912 on AM. It marks the second appearance by Alice Cooper, but in contrast to the ballad last time we now get a glam/ garage rock epic about the dangers of international espionage (a relatable topic for everyone I’m sure).

Year: 1971
