MCCh 2023: February 28

Post by Solitair »

The best albums of 2023 (February 28 update)

The numbers presented next to each album title are the weighted average rating, and, in parentheses, the raw average and number of ratings (out of 31 included sources). The weighted average is based on a formula ((Y-21)*(1/3)+X) that includes the raw average of ratings (X) and the number of sources that have rated the album (Y).

The magazines I used for the ratings were:
EUR + Australia: Dansende Beren; Gaffa-dk; Gaffa-sw; Humo; Indiestyle; Jenesaispop; Laut; Mondosonoro; Musikexpress; Nojesguiden; Ondarock; Plattentests; Sentire Ascoltare
UK: Clash; DIY; God Is In The Tv; Load And Quiet; Music OMH; NME; The Guardian; The Line Of Best Fit; The Skinny
USA + Canada: Allmusic; Beats Per Minute; Exclaim!; Nothern Transmissions; Paste; Pitchfork; Popmatters; Rolling Stone; Spectrum Culture; Under The Radar

Highlights: Rob makes the top three songs from the album according to Allmusic, Consequence of Sound, Jenesaispop, Plattentests, The Skinny, etc…

Here is the updated playlist with the new number one:

There was a lot of reshuffling of spaces in this one and some new highlights for the top ranking albums.

You may have noticed that I have extended the colored text for new additions and score changes to albums in the Opening Act section (averaging over 70 but not good enough to make the Top X chart). I'm no longer sure if that's a good change. Should I switch back or keep it going the way it is now?

Are you concerned that it will become too long and unwieldy? I guess you can make a separate entry like in the past. If it’s way too labor-intensive going forward don’t stress over it. I’m just grateful that this tradition is continuing.

I think it’s certainly an interesting addition, but only as essential as it feels to you.

For whatever it's worth from someone who rarely posts but often lurks (particularly for the MegaChart), I really like it.
