Honestly? I know a lot of you are going to hate this list, and there's plenty here I disagree with (starting a list with "Gasolina" doesn't necessarily fill me with confidence, although I do enjoy that song), but I like it a lot more than the '00s list. Much, much more variety, and more inclined toward the bizarre than the recent lists I've seen from them have been. They're not trying to make a case for every late-period classic rock star's comeback album, is all I'm saying (save for "Mississippi"). Also, no "Moment of Surrender"! Who saw that coming? And "Crazy" taps out at #15!

Very interesting list, but I have to wonder - why now? Why make this list at the 18-year mark, which seems really arbitrary? The only thing I can think of is that with the times being as perilous and crazy as they are, maybe RS is worried that we won't be around to do lists like this at the 20- or 25-year mark. Or that "Life During Wartime" will become reality and we'll all have way more important things to do than argue about music...

Or maybe it's a tip of the hat to "Gold Digger." 18 years, 18 years - do one of these lists 'bout every 18 years...

Very skewed towards the 00's, which I'm not sure that I agree with. I could go further, but critiquing these lists just isn't worth it.

Rolling Stone has such a nostalgia-bias that even this list, which is supposed to highlight recently released music, is heavily biased towards the 00s. Consider this, only three songs in the top 20, "Royals", "Alright", and "Blackstar", were released within the past seven years.

We shouldn't attribute it to Rolling Stone, per se, as the list was actually compiled by artists, writers, and industry folk. You can see whose participation led to the rankings here:

This list is fun for estimating AM after the arrival of the end of decade lists. Will "Get Lucky" be able to maintain the top spot of the 2010s songs list? "Runaway", "Rolling in the Deep" and "Royals" look like the main challengers now. "Midnight City" and "Seasons (Waiting on You)" did not make this list at all. Will they appear on enough European lists to stay in the top 5, or even the top 10, of the 2010s? What song(s) will be the standard Kendrick Lamar choice(s)?

I had a look at the 2010s list and realised that I don't have a clue of what the main challengers to the current top 10 are...

Edit: Radiohead might be a good guess. Beyoncé and Adele will probably climb, but I don't think all the way to the top 10.

I feel like you can just shorten it to "Rolling Stone" on the site and no jury but fionalive will convict you. Otherwise, you'd have to specify the voting demographics for every single list (i.e. "Radio Hauraki (radio DJ's and staffers) - The 200 Best Songs of the 2000s", etc.)

Funny that alright didn't even seem like a top-10 song 2 years ago and it finished No. 1!

I know hindsight is 20/20 and all, but it's pretty remarkable that "Alright" and "Dancing On My Own" (the current #1 and #2 songs of the decade) didn't make this top 10. Neither did "Oblivion" (the #4 song).

I didn't say it for Henrik, I said it because of statements in this thread such as:

People are attributing "Rolling Stone" to things, but it wasn't Rolling Stone itself who made the list. Rolling Stone doesn't necessarily have a bias; it was people in the industry who voted for this list, so accuse them of having nostalgia-bias. A comparison to a previous list doesn't make sense because it was probably compiled in a different way. That was my point.
