Great collection.
But there's others than the list above.
And i think (i'm pretty sure) that i can find all these lists on my local library, but it will take time.

Henrik, just want to know if they are eligible, before starting.

Yes, great books. I see no reason why they shouldn't be eligible.

My wife offered me these two books for last Christmas and I must say that I enjoyed a lot these readings, they taught me many things and made me discover many obscure bands.

I will definitely not exclude any of these lists because the genres are too narrow. If the editor felt they were important enough for separate books, then they are.

It's probably best not to exclude the compilations outright since some African artists were not able to record proper full lengths, or at least not as frequently as musicians elsewhere. Even when they were able, the albums were infrequently issued outside of their nation / region so the majority of AM sources used would rarely have had a way of hearing them before the era of MP3 blogs (unless they went crate digging in Africa).

I check the first one on library.

I am asking you Henrik, if this book is eligible.
Cos this book presents 100 most important jazz artists with for each one , 5 chronic albums.

You mean 500 albums in total? That would be very favorable for those 100 artists. I'm not so sure...

Yes 500 albums in total (5 for each one).
On the other hand, it's the 100 most importants jazz artists, so...

And There's his complement jazz book, "Jazz in 100 others artists"
i think it's the same thing with 500 albums in total.
http://lemotetlereste.com/musiques/wayahead/

I think it'll be great panorama of jazz music.
Also, if we don't take into account these 2 books, there'll no jazz books fot this collection.

Do the other books (or some of them) also have multiple albums for the artists listed (or other non-straightforward systems)?

I see.

I think the jazz books will be ok, but to not risk that you work on something that will not be used in the end, perhaps you can begin with another book?

After looking at those 2 books and beginning to transcribe...

MPB - Brazilian Popular Music - Have to be also included
http://lemotetlereste.com/musiques/musi ... siliennes/
Rap-Hip Hop - 30 years in 150 Albums (2012) - Last edition was 2013
http://lemotetlereste.com/musiques/raph ... leedition/

I think jazz books shoud be also included, cos in these 2 books above, there's second order albums in addition to main albums.
For Rap-Hip-Hop, the list 'll reach maybe 1000 albums.

I think that all lists in this collection have 2nd order albums. the authors named them "Also Recommended" or "To Listen too"

All in all, it's really good selections.

1000 rap/hip hop albums? Wow! Yes, I think everything should be included, but I would like to see lists from one or two books as examples before I finally make a decision.

I think this should be a project for the update in 2017. Do you agree? It would be great to have all lists posted here in the forum, but I will definitely need all lists and albums in a spreadsheet too (like the one Harold is working on). Do you normally enter lists to a spreadsheet before you post them here? If not, then the lists have to be added to excel afterwards. For that purpose, it would be great if you could use a rather unique separator, such as
1 | Artist | Album
Also, I prefer to have the artist names listed as "firstname surname" and not "surname, firstname".

I'm sorry Iagire if I sound demanding (do this, do that!). Of course I am supergrateful for all the work you already do and are planning to do! I just want to find a way to make the work as smooth as possible. If any of my suggestions above will make the work harder for you, let me know and we will solve it in another way.

THANKS!!!

No problem Henrik, i put all in excel file before post it.

Like i said somewhere in this thread, i think others books of this collection not mentionned in this thread shoud be included, like the one of MPB.
I check that and i agree with you, it'll be too short for 2016 update.

After checking the book africa 100 by Florent Mazzoleni, there's no additions to the list above.
The "Listen To" are just artist suggestions but no recording cited.

Ok i 'll make it, even if i put always in format "surname, firstname".

As you see above, i make corrections about the list africa 100 posted by Romain.

Another question: do you take into consideration tribute albums?

I began to add an excel file which contains all books of the collection.
For the moment, 2 lists.
Africa 100 (100 albums)
and Brazilian Popular Musics (2014) - David Rassent (100 + 391 albums).

Brazilian Popular Musics is not reserved to the specific MPB genre and contains all styles of music, made in brazil.
Great overview of brazilian music.
In red, the main entry (100 albums), which list can be found here.
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/travelle ... t_le_reste_/

In the 391 albums additions, there's also non-brazilian albums, mentionned as a reference to the main entry or influenced by.

I think i should be the only one to fill this excel file.
2 reasons:
- I can have all the books and so add additions to the main entry albums, which don't find on web.
- I can check errors made by published lists on RYM or others

Added Sylvain Bertot - Independant Rap from 90's-00's in 100 Albums (2014)
This one, i think should be compiled with the coming soon Rap-Hip-Hop: 30 Years in 150 Albums
from the same author.

Some albums in this list are in "Rap-Hip-Hop: 30 Years in 150 Albums", which is more generalist, than this one
which is more a sub-genre list.
I don't count, but i think there's about 20% In this list which can be found in "30 years".

List 100 can be found here:
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/dacapo/rap_independant/

A summary of some lists here:

You don't "have to" go on like that, but it's certainly good that you are! :D

This is really great! Thanks!

I think that in this collection, these books should be considered as separated books.
Le mot et le reste is just the editor, nothing else, it published other books with no link with music.
Collection is inappropriate here.
The books are from different authors and different formats.

That would be interesting to read because without being contemptuous, I didn't even know there were 100 listenable French hip-hop albums. Of note, a five albums addendum that the author, Mehdi Maizi, made for Vice:
