Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina" at #50? This is a very interesting list.

I'm actually really digging this list from what I've seen so far. "Bohemian Rhapsody" at #17 (!!!), "Waterloo Sunset" at #14, "Gimme Shelter" at #13, and "Running Up That Hill" at #60 are some of the placements I'm happy with. Also wouldn't have expected "Get Ur Freak On" to be this high, but I'm fine with it.

I'm well aware that I'm probably asking this is bad faith, but... is the sudden reappraisal of "All Too Well" over the past several years some sort of psyop?

I actually really love this. Gasolina at #50! All Too Well and Int'l Players Anthem in the top 100 at all! Finally spots for Wonderwall and Common People! And a whopping second-place finish for Fight the Power, which is more than well-deserved (and almost makes up for how criminally low it was placed in the last two versions). Also, I'm of course happy to see Superstition way higher than it was last time (although I would obviously put it even higher).

I also never would have guessed that "Dreams" would be the highest-ranked song of 2020.

Decent list, bad ranking.

No Arctic Monkeys?

They also picked the wrong "Take Care" song.

It’s also bizarre that Once in a Lifetime and Strange Fruit didn’t make any previous version of the list

Lana 'Video Games' missed the list probably one of the biggest shocks here + I notice that there's no Bjork or Arcade Fire too.

I meant new as in songs that weren’t even on the list last time. A lot of songs here weren’t in the top 100 last time.

One Michael Jackson song in the top 100 is expected but still hilariously stupid

You Missed Bohemian Rhapsody at #17 (it was #166 last time around)
I meant new as in songs that weren’t even on the list last time. A lot of songs here weren’t in the top 100 last time.
Ah, I see, thanks.

There was a similar thing with the 2000s song list, wasn't there? Radiohead's Idioteque went from not in the top 3000 here to #233. I think it's just an example of the better song winning out over time; All Too Well was culturally overshadowed by two hit singles off the same album. It just happens we won't really see those corrections being made until the EOD lists.

I refuse to let myself get riled up about any of these kinds of lists (especially coming from Rolling Stone), but I'm glad to see "Strange Fruit" place so highly. And while "Dreams" is a great song, I'm not really sure it merits being in the top 10.

Plus, "All Too Well" is a genuinely great song - as good as Folklore is, "ATW" is easily the best track Swift has ever done. It's certainly miles better than the singles on Red, which might be the weakest songs on that album.

"ATW" has taken on such iconic status among Swift's fans that when the upcoming "Taylor's Version" was announced, the extra track that created the most excitement was a previously unreleased 10-minute version of the song, which is probably too much of a good thing but hey, whatever floats your Swift boat.

I think Strange Fruit is top 10 material, but still scrolling, it's not a HORRIBLE list.

Interesting how many songs have made their way back after being cut from the 2010 list (just from what I’ve seen: It’s Too Late, More Than a Feeling, Lola, One Nation Under a Groove, Da Doo Ron Ron, Lose Yourself, and The Boys Are Back in Town)

This is such a strange list, a mashup of the "60s/70s rock and Motown are the best music ever" take that you would expect from RS and a very strange sampling of pop, rap, and R&B from the last 25 years. This seemed like the time for 80s music to do really well on the list, but it largely got left out in the top areas of the list. I don't see much of an improvement from their previous lists IMO.

Incredible that a song that didn't even make their list in 2004 has spent two years being so memeified that it becomes one of the top ten songs ever recorded.

I love good comedy to read in the morning

It’s a good song, to be fair. I think it deserves it regardless of meme association. I fucking love this list. Lots of good additions, including a ton I’m shocked to find haven’t made any precious version of the list (Under the Bridge, Space Oddity, What a Wonderful World, Once in a Lifetime, Life on Mars?, Natural Woman…)

Can somebody post a list of the songs on this new RS list that are NOT listed here at AM?

Are there any?

460 Steel Pulse, 'Ku Klux Klan' 1978
350 John Prine, 'Angel From Montgomery' 1971

These are the only ones I noticed, though the albums they hail from are both in the top 3000.

Such is the nature of a list like this. There are songs I'm glad were added, and songs I'm horrified were dropped (Time to Pretend deserves more than the turn-of-the-decade critical praise it got), and even after three updates there are still songs I'd add that aren't here (anything by Sleater-Kinney or Blur, Don't Look Back in Anger, any big band or old-school jazz), but I like the chaos of this list. The earlier lists were my primer on the accepted "rock canon," and now that I've educated myself on that, I'm more excited to see the cool stuff I haven't heard yet or seen praised as much as the canon songs.

Dynamite, Bad Boujee or whatever its called, that Ariana Grande song and Savage in no way shape or form are better than Come As You Are, House of the Rising Sun, Where's My Mind and Welcome to the Jungle in my opinion.

Glad to see Smells Like Teen Spirit in the top 5 tho. Also glad to see Summertime Sadness and Fix You appear on the list.

The list has a little bit of everything (except Jazz, which got f*cked here), and seriously lacking some of the essential Blues tracks.

Order is whatever, for a 'starter list', it's okay. It could be worse.

Seems Jazz and Blues can't win on a songs list going forward.

There’s some jazz. Miles Davis and John Coltrane never even made the cut until now.

Having only Acknowledgement and So What (and both outside the top 300) is probably worse than if they just said that jazz was excluded.

I agree, and having Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson in the 400s fits that line of thinking as well.

I don’t think it’s anything worth getting frustrated or offended by personally. These lists aren’t worth taking as bible anyway. I just am happy to see things shaken up a little bit.

(I’m also not that up on my jazz so maybe I’m not the right person to complain about its under-representation)

F*** yeah! "Dreams" in the top 10.

Maybe it's because I'm a Rolling Stone guy, but I love this list.

It’s a pretty great list, at least a lot better than what I expected. You’d think Pedro Navaja would make one of these lists just based on its importance to Latin music, the same way Oye Como Va has. Easily the biggest omission for me

It's throwing a bone and almost pitiful. While everyone has complained about corporate pop music post 80s being left out of critical discussions, the solution to that seems to be drop Blues and Jazz because they're older and less people care.

When in reality, for a list very clearly US-centric, to have near nothing of the 2 genres the root of all popular western music, is a major oversight by the people who submitted ballots.

' Dreams' came back due to that viral video last year of a guy skateboarding, drinking cranberry juice & listening to the song. So the song wasn't that important until somebody posted a stupid video and now its Top 10 all time? Give me a fucking break

To be fair, Dreams is already in the AM Top 600. Just cause it was involved in a viral video doesn’t change the quality of the song.

I'm surprised that WAP isn't on here. I predicted that it would be the only song from 2020 to make the list.

Of course not, that's why it's preposterous that it went from not even on the prior RS list to top 10 of all time mainly because of the viral video. That's the society we live in now. Social media controls everything, especially for millennials and younger.

Or, for the more logical conclusion, "Dreams" suddenly reentered the spotlight due to this meme and a bunch of people realized they liked it more than they thought. Maybe it's a good thing when an old song gains renewed interest?
