Well…at least there’s one song BY a Eurovision act. Just not THE song.

I kinda like this list. Even though I don't think both deja vu and drivers license are better than Good 4 U. You can say a lot about NME but at least they are the only ones still interested in the rock genres and little bit more "indie music". Pitchfork has shifted completely even if I kind of like their list this year. I don't think any other site would push for Yard Act for example but that was a nice new act for me.

Interesting how every other British magazine is falling all over the Pharaoh Sanders album I hadn’t even heard of until these lists started rolling in, but NME don’t have it at all.

How? It's been the #1 on the MCCH chart since it came out, other than the time Self Esteem took over - maybe Little Simz did as well, but it's been consistently in the top 2 at least.

Well there’s my trouble: I haven’t checked those at all.

It doesn't really strike me as an NME-type album

I respectfully disagree. The times of a rock / indie NME are long gone. They used to be my bible and reference for anything of the sort. Now, I'm getting my new music mostly from algorithms, not magazine recommendations. Where have the Melody Maker, Q, Spin, Select, all gone ?

I've not done much research on the music websites reviews, but Pitchfork looked so much up their own bums that I quickly eliminated it.
Do you guys know what web publications aimed towards indie rock / alternative (which seems a favourite on the forum, if you look at the 2021Wrapped Spotify thread) I should look for ?
I find myself closer and closer to Kerrang, of all things. But seriously, NME...BTS as number 10, Lorde n° 6 ? Where has your "esprit critique" gone ???

I get what you mean and I agree that there's a huge difference between 00's NME and 10's NME. But when compared to e.g. Pitchfork, I think that NME still somehow puts in 2-3 indie rock anthems in their EOY-lists. It's like the last stand in some way, especially among the big ones. Which other magazine would still put a The Cribs song in their top 50. But as all other magazines their taken over by Pop, Rap and autotuned R&B.
