236. Primus | "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver": 6/10
237. Dixie Chicks | "Cowboy Take Me Away": 5/10

That Primus song sounds a bit like black midi (or the other way around).

Dixie Chicks - Cowboy Take Me Away: 6

It pains me to admit it, but if I'm honest I never had a fantasy about being taken away by a cowboy. I can't quite relate to this song's lyrics on a deeper level.
Otherwise a fine country song, well-performed, but not particularly notable.

Renan is always one to present big hits, albeit not generally the critical acclaimed once. This is an exception, as today’s song ranks at #5880 on AM. It was also a big number one hit across the world, won a Grammy and still has massive streams on Spotify. Of course, it is a tribute to The Notorious B.I.G.

238. Puff Daddy & Faith Evans, featuring 112 – I’ll Be Missing You
Year: 1997
Album: No Way Out
Biggest Fan: Renan (#233)

I’ll Be Missing You is a 5. I get what he was trying to do, but there were better salutes to Biggie (you could probably say Biggie himself making it to #1 with Hypnotize was the most fitting epitaph he could’ve gotten, as that song is the career-highlight banger he deserved to be remembered for) and better songs from Bad Boy dominating the charts that year.

Puff Daddy & Faith Evans, featuring 112 – I’ll Be Missing You: 8

I remember this being a hit. Hip hop barely existed on Dutch radio at the time, except in their most poppy forms, of which this arguably an example. With the Police hook, a strong focus on Faith Evans' singing and mourning lyrics this was a song that even people who rejected hip hop as actual music could listen to. I doubt any of the radio stations that made this a hit in The Netherlands had ever played a Notorious B.I.G. track.
This does not mean I dislike the song. In fact, it is pretty good! Sure, it is sentimental and not evocative of Biggie himself, but it is made by close friends as well as by the widow, mere months after the murder. With that in mind I'd expect even bigger sentimentality. Things could have become tasteless, but the song ends up being soulful and from the heart.

Classic rock time, as Pink Floyd return for a second helping. One of those songs from The Wall that tell part a story, but will it work out of context? Ordinaryperson seems to think so.

Pink Floyd – Waiting for the Worms: 6
Unratable. There are more than a few songs from The Wall that I can easily listen to out of context, but this is not one of them and I doubt Roger Waters would want us to. That's not to say it has nothing to offer on its own. The rising tension that the song conveys is palpable even if like me you haven't heard it's parent album in ages. It's just that next to the strong build-up you also have to contend to someone mumbling nonsense through a microphone and some Nazi imagery. Well, it's definitely a Pink Floyd song.

Rumpdoll’s previous two song picks were in German, but this time we mix things up with an Austrian song sung in English. The band seems to have a cult following in Austria and Germany, but is still ripe for discovery elsewhere.

All these tracks are very context dependent, especially the last two. They work better as a part of the bigger artistic picture (within a concept album or as part of a movie).

An appearance by Depeche Mode seemed inevitable here, but I always thought it would come from superfan Edre Peraza or, you know, the user actually named Depeche Mode. In the end it is Honorio who gets the debut honor. It is actually one of their hits and you can find it on AM ranked at #4786.

240. Naked Lunch – In Your Room (2004) 7/10

241. Depeche Mode - It's No Good (1997) 10/10

Not their most acclaimed song, neither the most popular, nor their most innovative. But it's my favourite song by Depeche Mode. And I'm afraid I can't properly explain why. Maybe it's that "bright-dark" feeling the song creates. The dance vibes (almost funky) of the bass sequences contrast with the eerie and floating synths (especially from 3:33 to 3:52). And the minor chords contrast with the lead vocals mostly in major mode. Bright and dark. The book of style of Depeche Mode summarized in a single song.

Naked Lunch – In Your Room: 6
I don't know the context of this song, but it sounds like it works pretty well as a stand-alone to me. Or perhaps I'm rating it lower because I don't know the full album. It is fine, if not particularly memorable.

Depeche Mode - It's No Good: 5
I'm of the on this forum rare opinion that a good Depeche Mode song does not exist. This one is no good either, but it is a rare one that isn't awful. The usual un holy mixture of Gahan's overdone vocals over underdone, paper-thin music is not as annoying on an unambitious song as this one. Still don't hear anything remotely interesting, though.

There are several videos on it on YouTube, but I guess you can't access these either?
This one is from their official channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-QPvff ... epecheMode

Today’s “song” needs an introduction. Grateful Dead had two songs named Scarlet Begonias and Fire on the Mountain, but somewhere in 1977 they decided that the two songs went great together, so they combined them in every live show. BryanBehar actually specifically mentioned the 8 May 1977 live recording on his list and that seems to be the first time the songs were combined, though don’t quote me on it, as sifting through the maze of Grateful Dead live recordings requires dedicated scholarship. The thing is that although on most live releases the two songs are indeed named as one, on the actual release of Cornell 5/8/77 they are presented as two separate tracks. Perhaps it is cheating, but it means that I add two songs to the playlist today that need to be rated as one. At 26 minutes they form the longest track on this edition of Biggest Fan. Anyway, it seems to be an important piece for Grateful Dead history, so there’s that. Scarlet Begonias as a standalone song is bubblin’ under on AM.

243. Grateful Dead – Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain (8/5/77)
Year: 2017 (archival release)
Album: Cornell 5/8/77
Biggest Fan: BryanBehar (#133)

The legend is that Cornell 5/8/77 was their very best show ever. (A music critic or Deadhead reviewer at least has to deal with that in their review.)

Grateful Dead – Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain (8/5/77): 9
The choice to count these as two songs isn't wrong as they don't just transition easily into each other, but the main melody of Scarlet Begonias can be heard minutes into Fire on the Mountain.
I'm not the biggest expert on all things Grateful Dead, but I might want to be in the future, because sometimes I find myself caught in the subtle, calm beauty of their song, in a way that is incomparable to other musicians. Yes, this is long, but I wouldn't have mind if it went on for three times this length.
