how do you pick the songs each time ? its a random song from shuffle?
I use the website Random.org. First I pick a random user and then a random number from that user's list.
That's the way to get a Oscar de la Hoya song and a 1895 pop hit in a span of less than a week!
ahaha, and if a user have lots of lists?

Dan W. Quinn – The Band Played On

This was one of the biggest hits of the decade. The 1890s were the first somewhat coherent recorded pop music scene, and I gave it a pretty fair shake -- the marches were legit -- but I feel like it was overall lacking. I'd bet that only cinema was doing worse on the arts scene (and it had better excuses). Lyrically a little busier than you might expect. There's an amusingly nasty bit of humor about the two lovers: "But his brain was so loaded it nearly exploded / The poor girl would shake with alarm."

The lists are from this forum's 2021 All-Time Song poll and everyone only got one list. I'm talking about these: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9954&hilit=Song+Poll
Every user gets a song from their list here, until everyone has had one and then we start again. In fact, on Wednesday everyone will have had their third pick, so we go on to the fourth.

Dan W. Quinn – The Band Played On: 5
Not the first song I have heard of the 1890's, but perhaps the roughest. Singers in that time had to kind of shout into the microphone to be recorded and you can really hear how that strains Quinn's voice. It's not the most pleasant thing to listen to, even with taking the rough recording quality (to modern ears of course) into account. There is indeed a nice march playing in the background, but mostly I can't appreciate it as more than an archival piece.

Fred chooses the road less travelled with this rather obscure song by Lou Christy (who is the same person as Lou Christie, just credited differently for some reason). It is not on Spotify, but the original single release is on YouTube. Note that the YouTube-link also contains the B-side. We only vote for the first song.

220. Lou Christy – Canterbury Road
Year: 1969
Released as a single
Biggest Fan: Fred (#536)

I thought Christie was more of a jokester, but this a big, sweeping, idyllic song. And it's pretty rousing.

Akhenaten hasn’t had a song appear in 145 turns! This is the maximum possible, as he opened the second round of everyone’s picks and closes the third. Let’s hope that next time things go a bit more quickly for him. The song is bubbling under on AM.
And yes, that means that starting tomorrow everyone can expect their fourth pick! Unless you’ve had all of them appear already of course.

221. Kula Shaker – Hey Dude
Year: 1996
Album: K
Biggest Fan: Akhenaten (#48)

Kula Shaker – Hey Dude: 8
A type of nineties cool that has aged a lot better than many such songs. It just remains a lot of fun.

Bill Callahan – Faith/Void: 8
It may be very repetitive for such a long song and everything screams that this is an album closer instead of a standalone song, but something about its resignment moves me. There is something about Callahan's simple yet earnest delivery that makes this a warm rejection or religion that feels personal and unique.

Let’s wait no longer for Depeche Mode’s (the user, not the band) fourth song and the first appearance by The National.
Edit: The song vanished from Spotify a day later, so I added a YouTube link here.

The National – Think You Can Wait: 6

When it starts it kind of sounds like Streets of Philadelphia, but as it goes on it becomes the most average National song ever. Now I like this band so I end up liking the song somewhat, but they seem to be going through the motions here.

Just a little over a week since profeta’s last pick they are back again, this time with one of their top 10 songs! With their previous songs by Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart and The Carpenters profeta has really cornered the market for sentimental ballads and this is certainly no different. You may know the song from the musical Cats, although not the Streisand rendition.

224. Barbra Streisand - Memory
Year: 1981
Album: Memories
Biggest Fan: profeta (#8)

Looks like yesterday's National song has now been removed from Spotify. Is that true for everyone? Did we upset the band with too low ratings, depriving us from the possibility to hear the song our of spite?

216. Oscar de la Hoya – Run to Me - 1
I feel like this song's existence has to be some sort of money laundering scheme. Why is there very little trace online of this high-selling album? Why does he now only get 20,000 listens at most? Why is this the sort of song a boxer was making?
217. The Ordinary Boys – Over the Counter Culture - 7
218. The Rubettes – Sugar Baby Love - 5

This man sung a short, off-key song 127 years ago and we can still hear it today. Technology is amazing.

221. Kula Shaker – Hey Dude - 8
222. Bill Callahan – Faith/Void - 6
223. The National – Think You Can Wait - 7
The National could do with a b-sides/rarities compilation, they have so many weird soundtrack songs like this I've never heard. On a first listen, I am impressed by this track's warmth and really like the backing vocals.
224. Barbra Streisand - Memory - 5
Fine, however I would prefer versions from the musical over this.

As is usual Nassim is very concerned about your unhealthy eating habits. Finish your broccoli, people! Critics kind of agree, as they collectively placed today’s vegetable at #3490 on AM.

Biggest Fan: Nassim (#625)

I also added a YouTube link for the National song.
