Hiya Rob,
I'm doing OK thanks, it really is just a hiatus to refocus on the important things in life.
Job stressed me to the hilt and I needed a bit of a break from the commitments I had otherwise to spend time with my family and find a new job.
Getting there, though. I will no doubt catch up at some point. But with a new job next week and school starting next month, a kid being on the shortlist to work in Japan for a year, it's not over yet !
Good to hear you are doing okay. A change of jobs can indeed take it out on you, as does a kid (potentially) moving to Japan I guess. Take care!
Swell – Kinda Stoned: 7
A rather groovy type of indie rock. Sounds pretty cool.

Aretha Franklin is one of the most famous artists to never have appeared in either version of Biggest Fan Songs before. Today would be her debut, but she doesn’t want us to play the song. Rebels as we are, we follow Neil’s example and listen to it any way. It ranks on AM at #3576.
196. Aretha Franklin – Don’t Play That Song
Year: 1970
Album: Spirit in the Dark
Biggest Fan: Neil (#772)

Fela Kuti appears frequently in Moderately Acclaimed, where his albums tend to find a lot of appreciation. How do we judge him on a song level though? At least fasbjd cares. As tends to be the case with Fela, it is a long song.
Fela Kuti – Colonial Mentality: 8
Don't think I have ever heard a song by Fela Kuti that didn't click. A lot of it uses the same formula, but is so alive that it hardly matters.
171. Golpes Bajos - No mires a los ojos de la gente | 5
172. Joe Cocker – You Can Leave Your Hat On | 7
173. Akron/Family – Raising the Sparks | 8
174. Steve Miller Band – Mercury Blues | 6.5
175. FKA Twigs – Water Me | 6
176. Kanye West – Blood on the Leaves | 9
177. Sweet Comfort Band - Isabel | 7,5
178. Alex Gaudino, featuring Shèna – Watch Out | 4 (there is a decent song hidden in there, but some choices seem to be made just to make the song worse, notably in how "Deep", "Watch" and other words are yapped)
179. Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros – Coma Girl | 7
180. Olivia Rodrigo – deja vu | 9
Although StevieFan13 doesn’t play this game that much anymore he still tries a blatant attempt to remain in my favor with a song that happens to be in one my top 10 favorite movies. I see you, StevieFan. It aren’t just Stevie and the Dude who like the song, though, as the critic do too… kinda. We can find it bubblin’ under on AM.
198. The First Edition – Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)
Year: 1967

The First Edition – Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In): 8
During an earlier stage of my life this would have been in my list, but as you learn to know more songs, a top 1000 seems smaller and smaller. The Big Lebowski is what brought this song to my attention. It features prominently in a really great scene. Without that context it is still a very cool song though.
Today Phil brings us Without You, but not a version of the much-covered Badfinger song. At least that is what the people of Silverchair want us to believe.
199. Silverchair – Without You
Year: 2002
Album: Diorama
Biggest Fan: phil (#533)

Elder continues supporting art pop with the second appearance by Weyes Blood in this game, this time without the controversial Ariel Pink.
Also this is the 200th song, so that means that I’m preparing the new results. Despite a two week break recently some of you might still want to catch up, with the vacations limiting participation and whatnot. You have time until August 20th, when I will reveal the results.
198. The First Edition – Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) - 7
199. Silverchair – Without You - 6
200. Weyes Blood – Wild Time - 6
This was an extremely good week! It might be my most positive run of songs over both games.
195. Swell – Kinda Stoned - 8
196. Aretha Franklin – Don’t Play That Song - 9
197. Fela Kuti – Colonial Mentality - 9
Similar formula to many Fela songs, with the half-instrumental + half-singing structure and being a damn fine song.
198. The First Edition – Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) - 9
I did know this song already from Lebowski, but man I had not listened to it outside of that viewing. Really really good.
199. Silverchair – Without You - 6
I am somewhat familiar with Silverchair, but not this song, which sounds like the band Live.
200. Weyes Blood – Wild Time - 7
A solid song as typical of Titanic Rising
Although the songs from today onward won’t feature in the results in a week or so, there is no time for pause. We’ll see these in the top 100 of when we reach 300. Hopefully.
Anyway, it’s Brad time. Despite having a long, long list of eligible songs it is inevitable that we get something from the Dunedin Sound movement (there were quite a few in the first edition of Biggest Fan). What is the Dunedin Sound? Well, something like this:
201. The Clean – Point That Thing Somewhere Else
Year: 1981
EP: Boodle Boodle Boodle
Biggest Fan: Brad (#998)

See new topic.

Weyes Blood – Wild Time: 7
May not reach the transcent heights of the best songs of the album like Everyday and Andromeda, but it is another good example of the albums painterly mood.

191. Pink Floyd – Wot’s… Uh the Deal: 6
