On M24’s list there was a song by Hockey Dad (not married to the artist Soccer Mommy) named John the Club. Sounds like a cool tale about a mobster goon. Sadly, no song by that title seems to exist, so I just go ahead and presume they meant Hockey Dad’s similarly but less fun titled Join the Club.
By the way, I know nothing about M24, but taking into account that all the songs from their list that appeared here are Australian, as well as a lot of the ones remaining ones, can I assume they’re from Australia?

Year: 2018
Album: Blend Inn
Biggest Fan: M24 (#882)

Third rather bland rock song in a row, but at least I can feel the energy here, so a minor 6.

Perhaps the song is right and I just don't get it.
165. Twenty One Pilots – Fall Away - 3
I can see what people would like in this, I just don't enjoy those things.
166. Hockey Dad – Join the Club - 7
I would have guessed this was from like 2007, not 2018. Nostalgic or dated depending on your perspective.

Krurze, if you read this, what happened to you, man? During Biggest Fan’s first edition you were the man with all the club tracks, making sure that participants of the game would get their dance fix. Nowadays you show up with, of all things, Daniel Johnston, perhaps the least danceable musician ever.
Anyway, this is one of those songs that need some explanations. As far as I can tell, Daniel Johnston never recorded this solo. He just premiered it live in 1985 on the MTV show The Cutting Edge and that’s the only source you can find it from, making this one of those luckily rare songs without anything resembling an official release. That is, if you don’t count a recording in 1989 by Daniel Johnston with Jad Fair. If that is the intended recording, which I doubt as it is actually more obscure than Johnston’s MTV appearance, please let me know. If my research is spotty, also let me know.

Daniel Johnston – I Live My Broken Dreams: 8
Seeing Daniel Johnston there on an MTV program smiling while singing this obviously very broken song is somehow really touching. The song on itself is touching too, as pretty much any good Johnston song is.

With Krurze out for the count as far as dance songs go I start to notice that candyman is actually interested in bringing us to the dancefloor. He goes for more old-fashioned disco than the more modern electronic raves that Krurze used to be famous for, but we got to get our dance fix somewhere. Today candyman brings a real disco classic, that ranks on AM at #2217.

McFadden & Whitebread – Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now: 6
It's easy to understand why this is a disco classic, because at its core it is very catchy and upbeat. It's easy and appealing to dance to. At the same time, like a lot of disco, it quickly overstays its welcome for me as there isn't much development in the song. Especially the album version feels very long at seven minutes.

Summer started last week, so leave it to Random.org to celebrate with picking a Christmas song. At least it is in time for the promotion of the new Elvis film, although I somehow suspect this song will not be featured in it. Live in Phoenix can rest well in the knowledge that Elvis Presley has indeed played live in Phoenix multiple times.

Hard to rate this stuff. Anyway, most days I wouldn't choose to listen to this. And if I did it would be more out of curiosity than for the music. The footage does add a lot though, it's quite touching.

Elvis Presley – If Every Day Was Like Christmas: 6
To be fair, maybe a song about wanting it to be Christmas probably fits thematically better in a period when it isn't actually Christmas, but I still wouldn't particularly want to play this before December. Yet here we are. It's fine. Not a holiday evergreen, nor do I think it should be, but considering that Elvis could be very, very schmaltzy at times, this isn't too bad.

Though a lot of songs from Honorio’s relatively short list that are eligible here are in Spanish it took three tries to get one of them. It’s from a classic EP.

Being from Spain doesn't change anything about this sounding like typical new wave. It's a good song though, that sticks in the mind even without speaking the language.

170. Andru Donalds – Save Me Now (1994) 4/10

171. Golpes Bajos - No mires a los ojos de la gente (1983) 10/10

The first EP of Golpes Bajos featured a brief but intense set of songs about isolation, fear, confinement, sickness and death. The album opener was "Don't Look at People's Eyes" and defined perfectly the ambiance, a kind of hymn to agoraphobia ("Coppini´s lyrics portray with extreme ability feelings such as paranoia and solitude or the terror of misunderstood teenagers of socializing", in Diego Onde’s words). Dark lyrics in stark contrast with the uptempo Synth-Pop arrangements with rhythm boxes and slap bass.

Cover artist supreme Joe Cocker arrives this week with his famous cover of Randy Newman’s sexy song. It was featured in the movie 9½ Weeks in a striptease scene, for which the song is naturally suited. The song was also featured on Karla’s list, yet it remained bubblin’ under on the AM list.
