"Never Say Goodbye" made an appearance on my favorite songs list in 2012. I still think it's a nice song, and honestly prefer it to a number of the hits from Slippery When Wet. 8/10

Bon Jovi - Never Say Goodbye: 4
Although I've cooled significantly on Bon Jovi over the years, there are times that I can still get in touch with my teenage self and enjoy some of their songs. The thing is that Never Say Goodbye was never one of the songs I enjoyed then. I thought it was dull. Nowadays I think it is still dull, but sung in a overwrought way, a deadly combo.

Radiohead is a band so popular on this site that most of their songs are ineligible for Biggest Fan on grounds of getting too many votes in the poll. Still, there are is a grab bag of tracks still ready to go, more than a few coming from Ordinaryperson’s list.

122. Radiohead - Bloom
Year: 2011
Album: The King of Limbs
Biggest Fan: ordinaryperson (#622)

Don’t forget you can always vote at a later moment or change your rating.

Sonically rich, but somehow not completely fulfilling as a song. Goes for pretty much all of The King of Limbs for me.

Acroamar’s next pick a short and perhaps sweet indie song from a bubblin’ under album.

Ugh, no wonder it sounded familiar. I had it filed as Ghirlpool for some reason and therefore overlooked it. I think I need to go over everything once again to stop this from happening.

So, that one is ineligible. Acroamor gets a new track later. Sorry Gillingham.

Here is a new #123, a rare sighting of someone’s top 10 song! The lucky person is Depeche Mode and the song is extra long too.

Year: 2012

Bon Jovi - Never Say Goodbye 5

I like all of the songs on this guilty pleasure bar this mainly ‘cause J can’t get past the cheesey shmaltzy wink wink borderline cringe of the following line:

“Remember when we lost the keys and
You lost more than that in my backseat, baby”

To paraphrase one reviewer of this album - if any song tried to ‘tug at the heartstrings more than the brain strings’ then this was there ham-fisted attempt at a power ballad.

So yeah…I usually skip this one when listening to the album.

If anyone ever looked at stevejazz list they’ll notice he has a plethora of pre-rock songs ranked, which I would love to tap into. However, this will not happen today, as he gets a song from 2011, just like everyone else! The song is also bubblin’ on AM, but that’s largely thanks to Steve himself.

124. Dawes – A Little Bit of Everything
Year: 2011
Album: Nothing Is Wrong
Biggest Fan: stevejazz (#734)

A week after Nike comes another soundscape, but this feels a lot more like music and I like it a lot.

Dawes – A Little Bit of Everything: 8
Reminds me a bit of Jackson Browne, but Browne only occasionally hits these lyrical heights! Subtly moving.

Did you know that among Romain’s many appearances we never had a Serge Gainsbourg song? That simply won’t do. You may recognize today’s pick from it’s recent appearance in Moderately Acclaimed.

I disliked this album, but one Gainsbourg song in this style is doable. That doesn't make it great though. Gainsbourg sounds quite tacky here.

I never knew that actor Jason Schwartzman also made music, but he has something of a side-project going on called Coconut Records. Wezzo, whose amount of songs eligible for Biggest Fan is quite extreme, has caught on though. Is Schwartzman as good a musician as an actor?

Year: 2007

For better and worse this is kind of what I was expecting based on simply on the combination of Jason Schwartzman, his band's name and the song title. It's a summery track that feels light, no matter that it is about missing someone. It is also an earworm that only takes one listen to stick, but like a lot of such songs it also loses its interest quite easily. All in all, it just fine. Like Schwartzman as an actor actually. I don't mind him, but he never captivates me either.
