Each nominator got 6 nominations into the final tournament except for the ones that submitted a list of 5 nominations (3 voters) and other voter that got his/her sixth nomination removed (randomly) to end with a list of 128 albums. The album removed by random.org was R.E.M.'s "Fables of the Reconstruction."

As we did on previous editions, four match-ups will be presented each week: one from each of the four quadrants in the bracket, starting at the top then going to the next match-ups in each quadrant the following week.

For example, starting March 28th (Week 1) the match-ups will be:
1. Cheap Trick - In Color vs. David Sylvian - Secrets of the Beehive
2. Mel Tormé - Swings Shubert Alley vs. Black Grape - It's Great When You're Straight ... Yeah
3. Georges Brassens - Georges Brassens chante les chansons poétiques (et souvent gaillardes) vs. Kevin Ayers & The Whole World - Shooting at the Moon
4. Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue vs. Compay Segundo - Yo Vengo Aquí

Week 2 match-ups will be:
1. Sade - Diamond Life vs. Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters
2. The Cult - Sonic Temple vs. Tricky - Nearly God
3. CCCP Fedeli alla Linea - Affinità-divergenze fra il compagno Togliatti e noi: Del conseguimento della maggiore età vs. Mocca - Day by Day
4. Blind Gary Davis - Harlem Street Singer vs. Marcus King - El Dorado

...and so on.

I included also the Predict-It option on the Bracket Master link. If interested, the deadline is March 28th.

I hope to not make many mistakes on my first edition (please let me know if you notice something). If you look at the list you will find a lot of discoveries waiting for you (at least it's my case). This time only 46 albums appear on the AM list and we have a lot of unranked albums (59!), so this edition is filled by obscure (but surely excellent) albums. The ones who dare are going to be rewarded with a fascinating music journey for sure. So... let the games begin!!!

I have Saturdays = Youth and The Dream is Over higher in my all time list than some of my nominations ! I'd be surprised if the latter fared well but at least it will get 2 votes I guess !

I can't wait for this to start, it's looking great already! I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but the bracketmaker link wasn't working for me ("You do not have priveleges to access this area."), I think it's because of the "edit=1" part of the link. When I remove that the link did work for me: https://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=475615

Will look at the brackets tomorrow, but for now a few observations:

- It's noticeable that there are more unranked album than ever, because even before I read Honorio say it out loud I recognized less titles than usual. In that first scan I didn't notice something I thought an obvious candidate for the win either, which is exciting. Maybe The Dreaming? (Which I thought appeared only two years ago, but apparently not).
- I think Jacques Brel hasn't been in this game since the two times in a row that he won the whole poll. Dare we bet against him?
- I remember Brad once stating that Tom Waits had an album in every year, but this is the third time in a row he is not present.
- On the other hand, those same three times we did get an Air Supply album. Quite a change of pace.
- I do feel that at least every time I played there was a David Bowie album competing. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. There is one again this year.
- Also, I think that every year I played there was at least one artist who had two albums in the line-up. This time there is none, although coincidentally that is only because random.org removed a second R.E.M. album.
- After last year I kind of decided that I would not listen to any Depeche Mode anymore, but I guess the perfectionist in me will listen to Black Celebration for this game. I also didn't think I would ever listen to The Life of Pablo again, but here we are.

No hate towards this person but I think we know why there’s been three Air Supply albums in a row :D

I continue to be shocked that Alice Coltrane’s Journey in Satchidananda remains unranked, to the point where I’m almost convinced it’s a mistake.

This link works for me too.
And now I have filled in the bracketmaker. As always difficult to do when you don't know a lot of the albums, but we'll see how it go.
I was surprised though that two of my albums are up against each other in the first round. I thought that was previously impossible. At least it means I'll get one album to the second round.

Wasn't there a rule about a person's nominations not facing each other in the first round? Two of mine re up against each other.

No, "The Dreaming" appeared in MAA6, when it came to quarter finals.

Enjoy Dolls of New Albion everyone!

I nominated it with the expectation it would become a cult hit on the forum and get discussion about Paul Shapera's work going similar to Hadestown. I got into Shapera's work last year and it is quite special, in that his songs are good and he tells a compelling narrative around them. I think you'll like Dolls. Not only was it his breakthrough, it is sort of the starting point for his storyline.

I usually try to get an album in each tier, but this year, I decided to only nominate bubblers and unmentioned albums on AM.

It’d be kinda fun to see if we can guess who’s albums were nominated by who. I see a couple I’ve got some good guesses on.

I was the voter whose album was removed, but overall that's probably a good choice given there's already an R.E.M. album and they're not exactly an unknown act.

I think part of the reason there was a Tom Waits album every year is cause I kept nominating them.

This year I gave half my nominations to albums that did well in my discovery tourney.

I think this years Moderatly Acclaimed Album of 2021 has the best chance of any to win the whole thing. Much better than the last few years, at least.

I generally try to listen to one album I haven’t heard per work day, which tends to keep me just barely ahead of the game in the first round.

No, it's not the same thing. In Spain the original album is available on Spotify, and also as part of other albums. Try these ones:
https://open.spotify.com/album/1Puxbp4a ... 779vbmS7aQ (first 8 songs)
https://open.spotify.com/album/4jYAfSO3 ... Q3B1zOLNIA (songs 13-20)

Yep, these 8 first songs are the whole album in the same order. It was a 10 inch long-play, a short-lived format usual on the first half of the 1950s that was later replaced by 12 inch vinyls.

Oops, sorry. I should have noticed it myself before. The nominator named the album "Forever" but according to the AM rank the correct name of the album is "Freedom". I've corrected it on the first post of the thread and on the bracketmaker link.

I just did a check for all the albums on Spotify. These were the ones I couldn't find in my region:

The Art of Noise - Into Battle with The Art of Noise
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyLvm8E ... nel=hart70 - A side
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMQogOOoj_g - B side

Compay Segundo - Yo Vengo Aquí
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... bE0grmGhW5 - playlist
Though Honorio has pieced together the album from an anthology in his playlist above.

Maggie MacNeal - Maggie MacNeeal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt__2ll ... tonioCaser (this one has different cover art and is dated as 1977, but it seems to be otherwise the intended album)
Again, Honorio has pieced together the album on Spotify with the help of a Greatest Hits album.

Manassas - Manassas
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... FwVnpSAdpM - playlist

Orchestre los Camaroes - Resurrection
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... CXfG1dSlSD - playlist
This playlist has contains two songs less and a different playing order than the one mentioned on RYM. However, this seems to be the only available version. The re-release on Bandcamp is the same.

I assume that the live record by Fela Ransome Kuti is the one with The Africa '70 and Ginger Baker?

Jacques Brel - Brel is on Spotify under alternative title Les Marquises. At least, I guess that is the one the nominator had in mind?

The album Nearly God is not actually credited to Tricky. He took on another moniker also called Nearly God for that release, so you'll find it under that name on Spotify.

Help Wanted!
I can't find Hildegard Knef - The Reform Sessions at all. It seems to be a hyper-obscure release of remixes anyway. Does anyone, perhaps the nominator, know where to get it.

Yes.

I'll also add that I know the CPPP Fedeli Alla Linea album isn't on Spotify in the United States, and it can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3v1rwm ... 41DB6F0BF1 (the first ten only, the last video isn't part of the album)

I'm not the nominator, but here it is on Spotify:

I guess it's not available in some regions (or anywhere outside of Germany)?

[Hyper-obscure is also a bit much - one track has almost 250.000 plays]

That playlist doesn't work here.
Also, from the little information I gathered of the album I noticed it was little heard. I suspect these 250.000 plays may come from Germany alone, where Knef seems to have some fame.

Thanks for the heads-up, guys... I just purchased a used copy on Amazon for $7.70 +s&h. I can pass it around to anyone in the states once I've gone through it a couple times.

Edit: scratch that... order cancelled, this is available in the U.S. on Spotify!

Yes, yes and yes.
The Fela Kuti album is the one with Ginger Baker.
Yes, "Brel" from 1977 is also named "Les marquises" (the name of the first song on the album).
The "Nearly God" album is credited to Nearly God, I've corrected it on the alphabetical list.

Help Wanted!
I can't find Hildegard Knef - The Reform Sessions at all. It seems to be a hyper-obscure release of remixes anyway. Does anyone, perhaps the nominator, know where to get it.
You can find the Art of Noise EP in https://open.spotify.com/album/2fxrT2qp ... 007VMqnpqg (CD4, tracks 1-9)
And the Hildegard Knef album is also available in Spotify in Spain

Interesting that the Hildegard Knef album seems to be only unavailable in The Netherlands.
I guess songs with titles like Du Bist Mein Salz in der Suppe are a bit much to take for the Dutch people at the moment.

If anyone knows another place to access the album outside of Spotify and preferably free, please let me know.

I'm looking at the plays on Spotify for Donna Lewis's album.

I Love You Always Forever: 142 million
Everything else: 510 thousand or less

I'm not sure I've seen an album with that huge a difference, even with other one hit wonders. Even Tubthumper has a second song that broke a million. I guess White Town's album is more extreme.

What do you think the album is with the greatest ratio of (Plays for top song) / (Plays for second top song) in history? It'll be hard to beat White Town. 88 million / 298 thousand.

Edit: If you don't count different mixes of the same song, Macarena blows them out of the water with 165 million to 204 thousand.

What about Love On the Beat? Spotify only has the single, not the album. Another compilation?

Huh, American Spotify did have it but it would not come back on any search. Annoying.
