Yeah I agree, a lot of songs in the 1000 to 3000 don't need that much extra spotlight. I think we already have 4 nominations that made the top 1000 in our last songs poll.
True as that may be, this also applies to some songs further down the list. And if we continue to run this game, those will gradually be discarded as possible options.

And that's another point - I don't think I'll ever remove anything from that master list. Once a song appears, it can no longer appear in the future (Overlooked Songs 3 was an exception due to its narrow focus), so the options are increasingly limited.

I think the main thing is to remind people the point here is to try and spotlight songs you love that others might not have heard, as my assumption is not many of us have actually gone through the entire top 10,000 song list here (or if they have, there are likely songs they listened to only once). So while some songs technically qualify, consider whether anything is being gained by getting people to revisit a popular hit from a few years back. I'm skipping a lot of songs that technically qualify because I know most of us are intimately familiar.

Of course, this is divided into divisions because I expect the 1001-2000 range to consist of more familiar songs, so at least they are stuck facing each other.

I feel like there are still songs in the 1001-2000 range that get largely overlooked. Unfortunately, a few of the nominations have been songs no one would truly consider 'overlooked,' but it's hard to enforce a rule such as 'songs from 1001-2000 except for the really big hits' since that latter part is debatable. I guess I could have limited each 1000 section to 12 (with the first 8 to fill getting a 13th slot) and then had everything equally distributed?

I could still make this change, technically, but it feels wrong to change the rules a few days into nominations.
My solution would be more to make the first sections 2000 songs long; what you do now with the later ones. So 1000-3000 and 9000-10.000. There are just by far more overlooked songs in those later clusters, so I don't get why the earlier parts of the list are favored here. It doesn't need to be changed this edition, by the way, but perhaps something to consider for next time.

I think next time I'll just do 12/13 nominations per each 1,000 song cluster. I don't know why I didn't think of that initially when I did something similar for the 2010s edition (except doing 12/13 songs per year, something like that).

Ah yes. I was fooled by Fool by Perfume Genius being a bubbler. Particularly foolish as I have nominated Fool by Nadine Shah for Unacclaimed Songs previously.
