2021 Songs So Far - Semi-Finals

Post by Schüttelbirne »

Welcome to the Semi-Finals!

All you have to do is listen to the songs and vote for your favorite in the individual matchups.
You may only vote if you have actually heard all the songs in the matchup you're voting for.

The deadline is Friday, 17 September, so I can disclose the results one week from now (but if you need more time, just tell me).

Here's this week's matchups:

1. Floating Points / Pharoah Sanders / London Symphony Orchestra | Movement 6 vs. Mdou Moctar | Afrique victime
2. Noname | Rainforest vs. black midi | John L

Here's the playlist:

The perfect final for me would have been Afrique victime v. La Grande Folie. Altogether a tremendous batch of songs.

2 | Noname | Rainforest vs. 1 | black midi | John L

Would have loved to see San Salvador here, but even so this is a magnificent final 4. All of these may end up on my EOY list and I wouldn't mind any of these winning this tournament.

1 | Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & the London Symphony Orchestra | Movement 6 vs. 3 | Mdou Moctar | Afrique Victime
2 | Noname | Rainforest vs. 4 | black midi | John L

I can't complain, 3 of the 4 songs I put on top on the first round went to the semifinal (my only #1 eliminated was Celeste's "Stop This Flame"). Excellent semifinal!

I'll pass on the 1st one, really love both so I'm happy either way.

Voting for black midi - John L, the frantic songs in this albums are exciting and invigorating and this is a prime example (I'm less fond of the slower songs). Rainforest is pretty gorgeous too, but a bit too short and tame in comparison.

Pretty difficult picks and I'm not sure how I'm going to ultimately rank these songs.

Hey, it's Saturday and guess who forgot about this tournament until now.
You are right, it is me and for your patience you'll be rewarded with the final round in a few minutes. But first let's have a look at who won this round:

Thanks to the 15 voters this week. It was very close:

1. Floating Points / Pharoah Sanders / London Symphony Orchestra | Movement 6 vs. Mdou Moctar | Afrique victime: 8 - 6
2. Noname | Rainforest vs. black midi | John L: 8 - 7

Goodbye "John L", you held on through two ties and now one vote broke your back.
