Yeah, this is not terribly original, but the energy is real.

983. Ali Farka Touré with Ry Cooder – Ai Du - 6
Cool style, quite slow for my taste
984. Chicago – Hard Habit to Break - 3
Not a fan of Chicago
985. Deacon Blue – Shifting Sand - 5
I can see the appeal, sounds kind of like a rougher-vocalled Prefab Sprout
986. Utopia – Utopia Theme - 7
This is the part of the Utopia album I enjoy the most, goes a bit downhill from this track.

987. Nickelback – Far Away - 6
I overall agree with Nickelback's reputation as a bad band. I have listened through most of their big albums. The conclusion I've come to is that they managed to write maybe 4 'good' songs, and they/management are just very good at picking their singles. Far Away is a weak member of that list of 'good songs' but still enjoyable to me.
Not to be too defensive about a high-ish score for Nickelback, lol.

988. The Knickerbockers - Lies - 7
Sort of song that would have been uploaded as "The Beatles - Lies" to Youtube back in the day. I will say - very clean-sounding for a garage rock band!

Hymie’s soul lingers on. But who can say no to an appearance by Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions? Coincidentally, you can also find this group in the other Biggest Fan.

990. The Impressions – Woman’s Got Soul
Year: 1965
Album: People Get Ready
Biggest Fan: Hymie (#811)

Franz Ferdinand - Eleanor Put Your Boots On: 7
Very different than the danceable rock they are known for. Closer to an indie ballad of the time. Still feels kind of special, though. Might grow on me.

The Impressions – Woman’s Got Soul: 8
Another good Impressions cut. On the Young Mods album over at Biggest Fan Albums this would be the best track. A love song with real joy.

987. Nickelback – Far Away: 1.5 I listen to this and think "Is this my absolute least favorite type of music?" Then (as yesterday), I go to my local hardware shop to pick up a hose nozzle and am subjected to a contemporary country playlist that reminds me, "Nope, there is worse..." Nickelback deserves an extra .5 points.
989. Franz Ferdinand – Eleanor Put Your Boots On: 6
990. The Impressions – Woman’s Got Soul: 7.5 (Would have given this an 8 if the singers could sing for sh!t!)

Thanks!

Yello – Oh Yeah: 7
I vaguely recognize this. Apparently it's been used in many movies, which doesn't surprise me at all. Probably heard it in some of those. This really feels like as a novelty song and it is very silly. Like many novelty songs I suspect this would become annoying if I would hear it on a regular basis, but for now I can enjoy it.

Toby Keith – A Little Too late: 6
Toby Keith is one of those names I think is big in America and like many country stars nowhere else. I think this is the first time I heard anything by him. A typical country ballad, but not bad.

The Beach Boys - Forever: 8
A 10 seems a bit much. I wouldn't rank this among classic Beach Boys ballads as God Only Knows and Don't Worry, Baby. But it is kind of beautiful and sweet regardless. It also never develops into schmaltz, which by this time in their career would happen every now and then.

That rating pretty much applies to the album, too. And to other post-'60s Beach Boys albums I've heard (except for Surf's Up).

Elvis Costello & the Attractions – Good Year for the Roses: 8
This is a beautiful ballad, perhaps one of country's finest. Elvis Costello sings with restrained and The Attractions follow suit. George Jones version is great too, but almost baroque in comparison. I think I just have a softer spot for the simplicity of the Costello's approach.

Madonna – One More Chance: 3
In contrast, this is a rather dull ballad with little character. Probably one of the weakest songs I heard by Madonna.

Baffled that this was a single, since it really doesn't play to Madonna's strengths. It's fine but as Rob said, also dull
