Fantasy Eurovision GRAND FINAL

Post by whuntva »

Hello, everyone and welcome back to Berlin for the GRAND FINAL of our Fantasy Eurovision. These songs have all qualified from their Quarterfinal groupings to make the 25-song free-for-all.

The flag parade was soundtracked to a modified version of “Rock you like a Hurricane” as they all paraded to the stands. They greeted the cast with smiles and great cheers.

Since we already heard all the songs once except the Big Five, I felt it fair to jump to the final. But I bolded the Big Five so you can give them a listen alongside the rest. Though the Eurovision final is not randomized, I decided to randomize the running order myself.

Pick your favorites using the standard Eurovision voting system:

1. 12

2. 10

3. 8

4. 7

5. 6

6. 5

7. 4

8. 3

9. 2

10. 1

When giving votes, you may give them to either the country or the artist...or both. But if you're lazy, just the country is fine.

Your AM Fantasy Eurovision finalists:

Croatia-Time-Makedonija

Moldova-Cleopatra Stratan-Ceasu' Bate-lar

Turkey-Mazhar ve Fuat-Adimiz Miskindir Bizim

Italy-Gioachino Rossini-Largo al Factotum (as performed by Tito Gobbi)

Serbia-Darkwood Dub-Baobab

Armenia-Tigran Hamsayan-The Court Jester

Australia-Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds-People Ain't No Good

Iceland-Pascal Pinon-Bloom

Kosovo-The Glasses-Dirty Glasses

Poland-Pati Yang-All That is Thirst

Portugal-Amalia Rodrigues-Primavera

Monaco-Leo Ferre-Vingt Ans

Germany-Ideal-Erschliessen

Denmark-Volbeat-A Warrior's Call

Belgium-dEUS-Little Arithmetics

Hungary-Platon Karataev-Elevator

Russia-Theodor Bastard-Les

Malta-Beangrowers-You Are You Are

Spain-Triangulo de Amor Bizarro-El Gatopardo

Belarus-Daj Darogu-Baju-Baj (Hushabye)

Sweden-Dungen-Festival

United Kingdom-Cave Town-Home

The Netherlands-Eefje de Visser-De Parade

France-Katerine-Le bel aime de Royan

Greece-Aphrodite's Child-Four Horsemen

And since this is double the songs, I am doubling the poll time. The Final lasts for TWO weeks. Polls will close July 23 at 7pm! Europe, start voting now!

Would be kind of boring if we only had two votes.

Fortunately, there is still more than a week to go. So keep em coming!

Anyone unable to listen to this entry for location reasons can switch to the US on a VPN as it's available on American YouTube and Spotify, that's what I did!

No, it's not chauvinism that made me give Eefje de Visser that #1 spot. I nominated it because I really love it.

I should add that I didn't vote for Italy, because that classical piece is very acclaimed. It's not on AM because AM doesn't include classical music, not because critics don't like it. It doesn't feel in the spirit of the game for me.

I hate to ask, but would it be possible to extend the deadline a few days? This has been a busy week for me and I have a lot more time next week.

Thus ends this final of Eurovision!

The interval act was a showcase of past winners, which included Mans Zelmerlow, Nicole, Salvador Sobral, and Katrina and the Waves. There was even a special tribute to Ors Siklosi, lead singer of 2018 Hungarian representative AWS, who passed earlier this year. A local house band played "Viszlat Nyar" to send him off.

But this is the end. Europe, stop voting now!

I had no "fair" way to implement a public vote, so just pretend the public voted the same way we did. And we can call it even. Ties were broken first by number of first place votes, then by number of total votes (i.e., fewer zero votes).

Final Standings:

1--Iceland--63 points
2--Poland--53 points
3--Greece--52 points (finishes ahead of Australia by first-place votes; 2-1)
4--Australia--52 points
5--Belgium--49 points (finishes ahead of Turkey by first place votes; 2-1)
6--Turkey--49 points
7--Serbia--44 points
8--The Netherlands--40 points
9--Armenia--36 points
10--Portugal--32 points
11--Belarus--31 points (finishes ahead of Moldova and Russia by total ballots; 7-5-4)
12--Moldova--31 points
13--Russia--31 points
14--Malta--27 points
15--Hungary--24 points
16--Monaco--18 points
17--Denmark--16 points
18--Kosovo--15 points (finishes ahead of Italy by total ballots 5-2)
19--Italy--15 points
20--Spain--14 points (finishes ahead of UK, Germany, and Sweden 6-4-3-3)
21--United Kingdom--14 points
22--Germany--14 points (finishes ahead of Sweden for most points from a single voter; 10 from Mileswide)
23--Sweden--14 points
24--Croatia--12 points
25--France--8 points

Which means, for the first time, the winner of Eurovision is...

Iceland! With "Bloom" by Pascal Pinon.

This means if we ever do it again, we will be having the show in Reykjavik. The land of the Vikings and volcanoes would love to see Eurovision come to them.

So now, let's hear an encore from our winning song!

Thank you everyone for voting, and I hope to see you around the forums. I love how you all had the patience for a mock Eurovision run by me, an American with little knowledge of geopolitics. But you were all great sports. Thanks again!

A late thank you, whuntva! I loved this game and it was flawlessly hosted!! I’d love it if the game comes back one day. Maybe there’s an Icelandic forum member who could run it then? :greetings-waveyellow:

I didn’t vote for Pascal Pinon, but it’s a very good winning song that could absolutely have received several points from me. But when I voted it reminded me a lot of artists like Björk and Stina Nordenstam (which are huge favourites of mine) and thus felt a bit like something I had already heard.
