I hope that means Everlong made the cut this time. I also hope they did the same thing as the 500 Albums list and started from scratch, because I genuinely enjoyed how eclectic that list wound up being.

The cover of the magazine does not make it explicit even if the update will be a Top 500.

The list was left as a supporting role in the image.

2021 Rolling Stone Top 10 songs:
1. Aretha Franklin - Respect
2. The Beatles - A Day in the Life (like when Rolling Stone threw out the band's top 10 albums from 2003 and substituted Abbey Road)
3. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On (maybe too much to give him all the #1 spots)
4. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
5. Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone
6. The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (maybe they don't pull the trigger on this, but it beat "Satisfaction" in their 100 Greatest Rolling Stones Songs list)
7. Prince and the Revolution - When Doves Cry (a less older breed of music critic expects some '80s MJ or Prince on the list)
8. The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations (this or "Imagine," but maybe not both)
9. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
10. Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come
I guess I'm happy that I got any of this sort of right:
1. Aretha Franklin - Respect
2. Public Enemy - Fight the Power
3. Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come
4. Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone
5. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
6. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
7. The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever
8. Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On
9. Fleetwood Mac - Dreams
10. Outkast - Hey Ya!

I didn't think anything from the 21st century would make it, but #8 is 2001, and #10 is 2003. I tried to be a little bold, but I never would have ended up with Get Ur Freak On on my bingo card.

Is a list even a list if you don't bitch about something? This thing of rating Purple Rain the song over When Doves Cry (also see Pitchfork's best of the '80s) is getting silly.

No way!

I'd be surprised if it's even Top 50. Most of the voters are older folks like me who don't even like the record.
You were right....barely.

This generation that likes to demand commitment to everything but does not commit to anything...
I can't figure out why PF has never published big all-time lists of albums and songs as it would get a ton of page clicks. The Pitchfork 500 project - which was my favorite list ever from them - was the closest thing, but they cut off the beginning at 1977 or so.
I was wrong again.

Our list covers all eras and styles of rock well, without bias to our personal taste.
We beat RS to having "Respect" as number one.

Told you all "Fight the Power" would be on there.

Biggest surprise is "Get Your Freak On" in the top 10. Felt like, while a great song, that fell out of cultural relevancy a bit. Would expect it in the top 500, but not quite so high!

And I think “God Only Knows” will be higher than “Good Vibrations”
:ugeek:

(still think “God Only Knows” might be number one).
:angry-nono:

Maybe another female act in the top 10 though? Not sure what.
:ugeek:

I think “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac will rank top 100 now?
:ugeek:

“Nothing But A G Thing” will be top 50.

The real question is, what will their 100 Greatest Artist list look like? That surely has to be the next list to be updated next year.

"All My Friends" ranks Top 200
Newer acts like Black Keys and The National will be listed
"Fight The Power" highest hip hop song; is in Top 10
Still no Pearl Jam
"Royals" will be on the list
The most recent entry will probably be "I Know the End"; but maybe "Shameika" could be as well
1) I was wrong but not by much. Still Top 5.
2) I was correct. It was Top 100!
3) Surprisigly wrong. Was abit disappointed the genre/demographic that defined the 2010s (at least for me) mostly got the shaft.
4) Spot on. On both counts.
5) I'm happy to be wrong. Though "Alive" at 416 is too low; deserves Top 200.
6) Correct
7) Way off. My personal indie bias was showing.
