This is by far the weakest round of the year. Even the best albums aren't that great.

1 | Yes - The Yes Album vs. 4 | Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray
7 | Television Personalities - ...And Don't the Kids Just Love It vs. 6 | Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
5 | Sarah McLachlan - Touch vs. 2 | Nils Frahm - Spaces
8 | Odyssey - Happy Together vs. 3 | Leyla McCalla - A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey[/color]

Have to (politely) disagree with Schüttelbirne here, this was not a weak week in my opinion. My favourite album was Leyla McCalla's, with its spare but brilliant instrumentation, a tasty menu with Cajun and Haitian flavours. A close second would be Nils Frahm and his wonderful live album, "walking that fine line between ambient and classical" (marbars for RYM) with emotional results. The tightest battle of the week (for me) was on the first bracket, finally complexity won over simplicity, if only by a hair.

3. Yes - The Yes Album (1971) vs. 4. Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray (1992)
6. Television Personalities - ...And Don't the Kids Just Love It (1981) vs. 8. Ladyhawke – Ladyhawke (2008)
5. Sarah McLachlan - Touch (1988) vs. 2. Nils Frahm - Spaces (2013)
7. Odyssey - Happy Together (1982) vs. 1. Leyla McCalla - A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey (2016)

Favourite song from every album:
Yours Is No Disgrace | It's a Shame About Ray | A Picture of Dorian Gray | My Delirium | Touch | Says | Inside Out | Little Sparrow

P.S. Some trivia: the two albums on bracket 1 have little in common but there is a coincidence between them. Both bands covered a different song from the same band and album around the sessions of these albums. These covers were not included on the albums (being released as singles) but appeared later on the deluxe versions. Question: do you know the band, album and songs I'm talking about?

This is an easy one, no search needed: Simon & Garfunkel. The album is Bookends. The song Yes did was America and the Lemonheads did Mrs. Robinson. Personally I love the Lemonheads interpretation, but not the Yes one.

Exactly, Rob! That was easy, that's true, but the coincidence on the same bracket caught my attention...

The Nils Frahm album owes its ranking from me almost solely to my chosen standout, which is easily my song of the round:

8. Yes - The Yes Album v. 4. The Lemonheads - It's a Shame about Ray
5. Television Personalities - ...And Don't the Kids Just Love It v. 1. Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
7. Sarah McLachlan - Touch v. 2. Nils Frahm - Spaces
6. Odyssey - Happy Together v. 3. Leyla McCalla - A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey

Standouts: Yours Is No Disgrace | Frank Mills | This Angry Silence | Professional Suicide | Steaming | For - Peter - Toilet Brushes - More | Love's Al(l)right | Far from your web
All I got inside is vacancy!

My picks:

1. Yes - The Yes Album vs. Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray
The Yes Album is my favorite in the entire tournament (I didn't nominate it)
2. Television Personalities - ...And Don't the Kids Just Love It vs. Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
3. Sarah McLachlan - Touch vs. Nils Frahm - Spaces
Still, Touch way better than I expected
4. Odyssey - Happy Together vs. Leyla McCalla - A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey

Thanks!

This is pretty much sealed up for this round, but for argument's sake

1. Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray
2. Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
3. Nils Frahm - Spaces (top 1000, this one)

I’m not going to be able to listen to the last two in time this week.

The Yes Album 83 - It’s A Shame About Ray 82
…And Don’t The Kids Just Love It 78 - Ladyhawke 68
Spaces 88 - Touch 84

Yes - The Yes Album 6 vs. Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray 5
Television Personalities - ...And Don't the Kids Just Love It 5 vs. Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke 6
Sarah McLachlan - Touch 10 vs. Nils Frahm - Spaces 7
Odyssey - Happy Together 5 vs. Leyla McCalla - A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey 6

Five Favorite Songs:
1. Steaming - Sarah McLachlan 10
2. Trust - Sarah McLachlan 10
3. Sad Clown - Sarah McLachlan 9
4. Ben's Song - Sarah McLachlan 9
5. For-Peter-Toilet Brushes-More - NIls Frahm 9

Why oh why with all the Air Supplies, Echosmiths and Sam Hunts in the world did Sarah have to draw a really good Nils Frahm album in the first round? :( Ah well, those are the breaks. For me, "Touch" is one of the most hauntingly beautiful albums I've ever heard...

I also can't agree with Schüttelbirne that this is a weak week. It is not a stand-out perhaps, but the entries are very solid. The only one I don't care for is Odyssey, but disco isn't my thing in general.
Television Personalities was a surprise. Because of the band name, the album title, release year and the cover art I always expected some of the most kitschy, over-produced new wave or even new romantic release ever, but it is the opposite. Very low-fi and breakable.

5. Yes - The Yes Album vs. 4. Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray
2. Television Personalities - ...And Don't the Kids Just Love It vs. 7. Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
6. Sarah McLachlan - Touch vs. 1. Nils Frahm - Spaces
8. Odyssey - Happy Together vs. 3. Leyla McCalla - A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey
