Didn’t know whether to credit todays song to Milton Nascimento too, as the album is credited to both artists, but both the nominator and Spotify don’t, so I do neither.

I dunno. It's about the boogey man, as the title states, but it also sounds very chill and summery. Maybe a little too much so, because although it makes for a rather pleasant song it passes by a little too easily.

I noticed you didn't rate the selection. I didn't want to either . I don't know what to do about the Bats. They have one song that kicked me in the balls -- but when Barbara Manning performed it, not them ("Smoking Her Wings"). Maybe I need to listen to Daddy's Highway. Or maybe I need Barbara Manning to cover all of Daddy's Highway.

Oh, it's a 6 for me. Added it to my original post.

Curious about the Barbara Manning cover. Perhaps I'll listen to it this coming Friday.

Lô Borges - O trem azul: 6

I remember being underwhelmed by this album when it appeared in Moderately Acclaimed last year. I didn't particularly recall this song, but it fits the overall feel I remember: pleasant but rather forgettable.

I love Daddy's Highway (the album), and am anxious to get to it in Moderately Acclaimed (not my nomination). I think "Boogey Man" is a solid tune that represents The Bats' sound well - I just dislike the chorus and the whole "boogey man is gonna get you" thing going on.

Thanks!

I for one really enjoy this track, although they've done a lot better. I got into the Dunedin Sound after moving out of said city last year, and The Bats are definitely my favourite artist in that genre.

No time like mid-Spring to unleash another Christmas song, although perhaps not one noticeable as one. It was written for the Swedish Christmas cartoon Sagan om Karl-Bertil Jonssons julafton. Though this is not the recording used in the film, but a later collaboration between the soundtrack composer and Arne Domnerus.

Gang Gang Dance - Princes: 7
Gang Gang Dance at their best create a unique fusion between ethereal and world music coupled to a modern dance sound. This song does it too, with some added hip-hop and at its best moments it ranks with the best of their work, but every now and then I feel this song just loses its stride. There is a lot happening for a four minute song. Maybe a little too much?

Good proto-rock R&B. The only thing that holds it back a little are the backing vocalists, whose hearts don't seem to be in it.

I see it as not only R&B, but as full fledged rock and roll.

Roy Brown - Good Rocking Man 7 That's one hell of a cold open, some say Brown was the first to capture on record what would become known as rock & roll

Bright Eyes - Old Soul Song (For the New World Order) At times, this is my most beloved of Conor's tunes; at present, it'll just have to settle for 2nd spot behind Lua, a score of 10 and a ranking of #191 on my muted mooted AT ballot. The way the pedal steel and mariachi-like trumpet 'harmonise' after the second chorus gets me each time

I can't see any reason why you would ever mention it in this thread. I can't speak for Germany but that song was a #1 hit in The Netherlands and the parody Alice, Who the X Is Alice? by Dutch act Gompie was even bigger. It's one of those songs very strictly tied to childhood memories as it was ubiquitous when it came out in 1995 and I was eight at the time, but it has disappeared since. The song reminds me more of some British folk pop than schlager though.

I thought I'd brought it up when erstwhile Biggest Fan regular BobPatience compared Bergwijn de Groot to Schlager but probably not. You've got the same frame of reference as me with this song though, I was 7 in 1995 when Who the F- is Alice (censorship theirs) hit big in the UK, so that's how I know it. The similarities I picked up between Alice and Schlager are the shared sentimentality, singalong hooks, twangy instrumentalisation instrumentation and the modulation change for the last big chorus but I can see where you're coming from with the folk pop parallels!
