Ocarina of time #55, that's a surprise ! I guess they didn't want to have too many Nintendo on top but still.
Same for Super Mario 3 at #68.

I find the rankings pretty oddball generally, although I guess nearly all the games mentioned would deserve to be in such a top. My own top 100 would probably look very different. Anyway, it at least manages to be surprising. I wouldn't dare to make any assumption of what the top 20 will look like. Except that at least one Final Fantasy game will obviously be in it, of course. In fact, given that multiple games from a single series can be included apparently, I'm surprised none has shown up yet.

I guess Street Fighter II is a lock as well, since it hasn't appeared yet.

If someone else was following this, know that it's complete!

Now time for some thoughts: personally, I find the list too recent games-oriented, but that's probably my tastes as someone who grew up with games that were generally a visual pixel gruel and managed to still find enjoyment in them. I'm puzzled by some rankings - I like Donkey Kong Country as much as the next guy, and find it a classics, but I believe many other platformers should rank ahead of it as I've always found the DKC gameplay to be a tad unpolished and raw. Also, the first game in the series is probably not the best (IMO, I played DKC2 and DKC3 more). I would put a shitload more point'n'click games in there (almost everything ever done by LucasArts, the Broken Sword series, The Longest Journey...) and more platformers, but that's my personal tastes speaking here (speaking of which, although Super Mario 64 is genius, I think the 2D platformers are greater games, but once again, perhaps that's only my tastes).

Also, no early era classics acknowledged. Donkey Kong? Pac-Man? Anyone?

Some game systems seem to be forgotten completely. What about the Neo Geo with Metal Slug or KOF or Blazing Star?

And if several entries in a series are allowed, why not more Final Fantasy games?

OK, I'm complaining too much. I'm pretty certain all the games featured would appear without shame in a decent list of the top video games of all time. Mine would just have been vastly different and more older-games oriented I suppose.

I tend to agree, though when you're boiling down any medium--even a relatively new one like video games--to just 100 spots, there's gonna be a lot of disagreements and noteworthy omissions.

Seeing Breath of the Wild in the top 10 will surely drive some people crazy, and that's partly justified cause the game isn't even a year old yet. My problem with including newer games is that time really does test art, and something which might seem brilliant today may not have that same impact in a couple years. For example, in the case of BotW (a game I haven't even played yet) what if the market gets flooded with games that are similar but do everything much better? I really think we should give products at least 5 years before we start calling them an "all-time great".

Yeah, I don't mind recent games being present, but not at the expense of hyper-classics like more games from the Final Fantasy series or pioneers like Donkey Kong or Pac-Man. I mean, they're prehistoric by today's standards, but they're cultural milestones, and they're overall still pretty entertaining (the first Zork or Ultima games, although revolutionary, have aged badly though).

I wonder how much this list would have changed if they had waited until the end of this year considering all the high words being said of Mario Odyssey.

They gave it a 19/20, so it would probably have ranked very high.
