Re: AMF WC Classics Edition 05
oh boy ? The most unwanted song is 21:58 ? Title + length, I am becoming worried
Re: AMF WC Classics Edition 05
So, are you considering having five weeks be the limit until entering the hall of fame or whatever it will be called? I'm getting kind of tired of How Soon is Now (and it's in my all-time top 100).
I was pleasantly surprised to see CSS make it; it always felt like one of those oddball acclaimed songs that other people didn't appreciate as much, but I guess there are plenty of fans.
My nomination will be a new discovery from the past week that pretty quickly became a favorite that I'm also sure won't do too well (and thus I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does!):
Huggy Bear - Her Jazz

Alright, this week I’ll nominate something that’s considered a classic by many.
Underworld - Dark and Long

It works the same as the usual chart, in that if a song makes it to 8 weeks on the chart, it gets into the hall of fame (and I wouldn't necessarily say you have to re-listen to it every week if you know it).BleuPanda wrote:So, are you considering having five weeks be the limit until entering the hall of fame or whatever it will be called? Also, my nomination this week is a bit of a deeper cut that is nevertheless in my all-time top 5:
Soul Coughing - Screenwriters Blues
Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand - Sir Duke (1976)

I haven't seen many reactions to your proposal - anybody want to comment on this ? 8 weeks or 5 weeks to go in the Hof ?BleuPanda wrote:So, are you considering having five weeks be the limit until entering the hall of fame or whatever it will be called? I think the proposed rule about allowing so many top 500 songs is going to be too much hard work double checking whether they qualify or not.
The aim of the classics edition was to limit the "engagement" rules to allow as much freedom as possible.
I agree with you about CSS, I voted for it as this was my introduction to the song AND the artist - and I liked it.
As for your nomination - consider it seconded. I used to REALLY like it at the time of its release, but I haven't heard it in sooooo long....

Re: AMF WC Classics Edition 05
The Underdog has finally been crushed by the Man. So I allow myself a new nomination. And it will be:
Laura Nyro - Once It Was Alright Now (Farmer Joe)
One of those songs from a relatively famous album that will never become acclaimed by itself, despite its breathless brilliance.
I'm also against more rules (even if I admit that my heart sunk when last week both Superstition and Je t'aime moi non plus were also added; come on, everybody either loves these songs already or will never care). But why not a name change? That "Classic" title seem to work misleading. I guess calling it something like "Tip List" is taking it too far. Maybe something like "Treasure Chest" or anything along those lines? Perhaps someone can come up with something better?

I did react last week, but to repeat: I think a longer length help for the feel of some kind of hit list. I think is 8 weeks is an ideal number.spiritualized wrote: I haven't seen many reactions to your proposal - anybody want to comment on this ? 8 weeks or 5 weeks to go in the Hof ?

As long as songs from the top 500 (or at least 200) of last poll are fair game, I'll vote for 5 weeks.BleuPanda wrote:So, are you considering having five weeks be the limit until entering the hall of fame or whatever it will be called? That being said I want to root for one of the highest ranked songs in AM that did not make our last top 1000 :Jackie Wilson - (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher

Re: AMF WC Classics Edition 05
I will nominate "The Bottle" by Gil Scott-Heron. Bizarrely, although it appears that only live versions are on Spotify (at least in the US), the original studio version actually is there – under the name "Gill Scott".

I love how The Most Unwanted Song is actually much better than The Most Wanted Song from the same project.

The biggest irony is that The Most Unwanted Song fails in what it tries to be. It's way to well thought-out to become the most unwanted song.BleuPanda wrote:I love how The Most Unwanted Song is actually much better than The Most Wanted Song from the same project.

Re: AMF WC Classics Edition 05
Just FYI, I have taken onboard all your suggestions.
I elected to leave it to the 8 weeks Hall Of Fame deadline until that deadline comes.
The chart looks top heavy at the moment, but I relish the fact that only two of the first week's nominations have made it this far.
It seems a lot of us got really excited at the idea of having their nominations going to the Hof, but looking at the noms this week, this may peter out and we are seeing a majority of hidden gem nominations. A name change is not ruled out, but I am not keen on establishing rules. The AM Forumers may find their own chart stability by their own accord
