The first three are daily newspapers, which both Arnaud and I expressed uncertainty about eligibility for. FAZE magazine fits the rules, but the uncertain eligibility is due to how the list was compiled (I posted about it in the thread).

So it looks like this will officially be my first year since 1998 that my song of the year won't place in the acclaimed music top 10,000 (and, honestly, those are probably the only two years of popular music where that is the case). At least my #2 and #3, Tonite and Say Something Loving, jumped in this final update. Still, a really strange year for me, especially as someone who is usually rather in sync with the acclaimed music list...

I think American Dream as an album was processed oddly this year. It's weird that a song-heavy band has the #2 album of the year and their highest song only landed at #30; but they also have 4 songs in the top 100. They did well, but the fact that a lot of critics seem to limit how many songs they'll put by the same artist appears to have hurt them. I think artists do better when they only have one or two big songs in a year.

I'm still going to bet on How Do You Sleep being the Idioteque of this decade once we get to the EOD lists. But at least "Tank!" has company for now!?

Roger Waters' Is This the Life We Really Want? sitting at #169 on the albums list seems fair since it's uneven, but I'm surprised Deja Vu only made it to #1518 on the songs list, as it's one of my favorite songs of the decade. I've never really understood why latter day Dylan and Cohen get so much more attention than a Waters, who has made some incredible albums like Amused to Death.

And I agree that some of the top song choices are odd, but there are some great ones like Sign of the Times that I wouldn't have heard without this list.
