Just speaking for myself I have no idea which bands are coming out with new albums in 2013. If The Knife is, that's awesome, their first non-soundtrack release since 2005.

I suppose The National and TV On The Radio are due, any rumblings from them?

What about Janelle Monae? I remember her promising to release two albums in 2012, which obviously didn't happen, but something must be in the works.

Monae's next album, Electric Lady, should be out in 2013. The fact that she has confirmed the title (back in August) and performed two potential tracks from it live are good indications that it'll be soon. So mark that as one I'm REALLY looking forward to, besides some that have already been mentioned.

I had thought/hoped Janelle Monae would release "Electric Lady" this year. She did state at the end of 2011 that she would release not one but two albums in 2012 (optimistic and ambitious, I know). So yeah, Electric Lady will probably be released in 2013 and I couldn't be more excited - the two tracks she sang live "Electric Lady" and "Dorothy Dandridge Eyes" sound amazing. The ArchAndroid was my AOTY back in 2010. :D

These ones that Nick mentioned:
Nick wrote: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds– Push The Sky Away (2/18)

Azealia Banks– Broke With Expensive Taste (2/12)
M.I.A.- Matangi
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- TBA

My Bloody Valentine- TBA
Also Janelle Monaé and The National; I don't know about TV On The Radio, since they lost a member last year, but they announced concerts, so...

- Joanna Newsom has been slowly performing new music this year, but she's been touring so much for Have One on Me and making some festival appearances since 2010 that I wonder if she actually found time to develop and record an album. I guess this is more of a 2014-15 sure shot for now.

- Before Trish Keenan died she laid vocals and recorded tracks for the official follow up of Broadcast's Tender Buttons released way back in 2005; I've been hooked on Broadcast for a couple of years, so I'd love to hear some new material from them and a wonderful farewell to the talent that was Trish - they already have a soundtrack planned for January, but I still need word on a studio album by the band.

- There's a new album by Low on its way too

- The Flaming Lips were also supposed to have released a new record back in spring, but nothing ever happened, so I guess we might hear a word of it this next year

- They've been copied to death by indie pop bands of the last 5 years, but there's something that Camera Obscura brings to their music that sounds infectious and instantly sets the group apart of these other groups around. I hope they release a more consistent follow up to their last record.

- Neko Case has also been performing music for a while, so here's hope for a new alt-country album in 2013.

- Could a new Portishead album come true?

- Here's hope for a 2013 of exciting breakthroughs and new artists!

Not mentioned so far:

Pere Ubu - Lady From Shanghai (1/7)
Villagers - Awayland (1/14)
John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts (3/11)

Also, of course, the outstanding 3 of the 4 albums that Guillemots were supposed to be releasing during 2012!

Those and these even more:
Autechre - Exai (Double album) (4 March)
Low - The Invisible Way (18 March)
The National (TBA)

Not going to mention the likes of The Avalanches and Boards of Canada anymore until some official announcements are made. (Well, I guess I just did anyway...)

And a new album by Prince !

If I had Prince + Bowie this year, nothing else would matter. :music-guitarred:

The first song for each artist are pretty excellent.

Flaming Lips' new record, The Terror, now has a release date of April 1st. As a big Embryonic fan, I'm optimistic.

So glad that the cover art for the new Flaming Lips album doesn't suck. The Flaming Lips have had some atrocious cover art in the past, and with the cover art for the new Bowie and new Yeah Yeah Yeahs albums being terrible I was afraid The Flaming Lips one would be too. The things I worry about...

Also- the new Justin Timberlake album ha a release date- March 19th. If you had told me 12 years ago that I would be excited for a new Timberlake album I would have scoffed. But that man cranks out some seriously great pop music.

The Flips cover art is in fact awesome, though not quite as awesome as their last album's cover, which was their career best.
