✂️ Elspeth Beidas - 10,000 Things You Need to Know: The Big Book of Lists (Album and Song Lists) (2016)

Post by StevieFan13 »

Was in a bookstore today and found this. Didn't buy it, but there were lists in the book of the top 100 albums and songs. It's by the same people who made the 1,001 Songs and 1,001 Albums books, but I noticed a few songs that weren't in the 1,001 book (particularly Get Lucky). If anyone can buy and transcribe this book, it'd be much appreciated!

Thank you! The lists I'm hoping for here are the lists of 100 songs and albums. If there are any others that meet the criteria of AM, feel free to post them as well!

I still think they're both pretty interesting lists. Certainly, as far as selections from each 1,001 book (and beyond) go, they went in some fairly unexpected places, especially given the other songs they had to work with.

Thanks sam.peeler!

I suppose the "You've lost that lovin' feelin'" entry should be The Righteous Brothers.

Huh. Guess not. It definitely looked very similar, and several of the song entries are straight out of the 1001 book (especially something like Lili Marleen), but I guess there's no way to be sure.

For now, I'll add the rock and pop albums list to the spreadsheet and I'll add the other two in once they're posted.

A few things:

-Yes, it should be the Righteous Brothers instead of the Everly Brothers. My mistake
-Since both the 1001 Albums & Songs books and 10,000 Things book are both by published by Universal Publishings, I would assume that they're maybe connected.

It should probably be considered on its own terms, though - going by my version of the 1001 Songs book (which goes up to 2013 and David Bowie's "Where Are We Now"), the following songs are not included on that list:
- Françoise Hardy - Je Changerais D'Avis
- Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot - Bonnie and Clyde
- Johnny Hallyday - Requiem pour un Fou
- Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
- Run-DMC - Walk This Way
- The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian
- Public Enemy - Fight the Power
- Madonna - Ray of Light
- Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky

Hi Henrik, I've seen these two very interesting lists today, namely the "blues, country & folk" one AND the "jazz" one and thought about bumping them. Do you plan to include them in your next update? Oh, and how is the AM chairman doin' by the way? :greetings-waveyellow:

This is a little late 😅 but the blurbs for the five lists above were done by Robert Dimery (1001 Albums; Songs general editior). Maybe he was the one who chose the albums/songs, or at least had a hand in choosing the selection? That would explain the similarities.
