Q - The Debut Albums That Changed Music (2017)

Post by RB »

Or the greatest debut albums of all time...

Only rule is that no artist could have ever released an album under a previous guise. So, no Bjork, for example, because she'd recorded albums in the Sugarcubes, and no Led Zeppelin as Jimmy Page had been in the Yardbirds.

All the #1's are the picks each writer was 'asked to explore more deeply' & so have a larger write up than the others.

I guess we can make this into an overall Top 100 (if there are that many) based on position &/or number of entries. Which of course would be better.

Actually, Björk is never featured in these lists because of the 1977 album... (Even though I admit it's weird and we always forget, for good reasons, that she's an artist who debuted in the 1970s).

*star picks ranked same as #1's of writers
**unranked Rock 'n' Roll selections. 'Here's Little Richard' should maybe carry more weight (like the same as the writers #1) as they devote the opening 2.5 pages to it & describe it as 'the real Rock 'n' Roll Book Of Genesis'. Not sure about the weighting for the other 9 - same as a single writers 5th?
