Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
For reasons previously explained on the Stereogum thread viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4377 I can't see how Stereogum is anything other than a contrived playlist of exactly 100 distinct songs available on spotify with 10 distinct songs attributed to 10 individual critics. This is why none of the individual lists include Beyonce as she is inconveniently not on spotify, so despite being their no.1 album she appears on zero lists in their list of '100 Favorite Songs Of 2016', not even the one who did the write up on the album!? For comparison last year's no.1 album by Grimes appeared in 2 of (only) 8 song lists, 25%.
They even say:
'Consider it not a definitive list of the year’s best songs but rather a series of mixtapes comprising moments that resonated deeply.'
However Bruno and I appear to agree on the Irish Times song list being eligible (see Irish Times thread viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4406)

Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
The guy who appeared to do the write up of the grimes album (Michael http://www.stereogum.com/1845609/the-50 ... -review/5/) last year said in his favourite songs write up:
'Michael Nelson
I listen to lots of music that isn’t metal at all, and if this list were a 100-percent accurate representation of my favorite songs of 2015, it would include a whole bunch of those non-metal songs: Grimes’ “Belly Of The Beat”; Car Seat Headrest’s “Something Soon”; Carly Rae Jepsen’s “When I Needed You;” Hamilton’s “Wait For It”… But there are eight writers contributing to this feature, and of that group, I’m the only one who regularly listens to and thinks about metal, so I decided to limit my focus here to include only metal songs, to show some additional love to the genre I love most.'
& didn't include Grimes.
Likewise this year he said
'As I’ve done in years past, I’ve chosen here to focus only on “metal” songs, knowing my colleagues will pick up the slack on pretty much everything else. Are these the 10 best metal songs of 2016, then? Probably not. I’m pretty sure they’re my 10 favorite metal songs of the year' http://www.stereogum.com/1913770/stereo ... in-review/
Stereogum songs list appears to be for Interest only, Ineligble

Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
So I've removed Stereogum and added Irish Times to the spreadsheet. But going by this, would Mondosonoro also be ineligible? Their song list was only presented as an unranked, 50-song Spotify playlist, with no Beyoncé (#13 on albums list). In past years, they've have national and international song lists, both of which were written out on the website.JohnnyBGoode wrote:This is why none of the individual lists include Beyonce as she is inconveniently not on spotify, so despite being their no.1 album she appears on zero lists in their list of '100 Favorite Songs Of 2016', not even the one who did the write up on the album!?

Looks like a playlist according to auto translate, doesn't even seem to say best or favourite in the title http://www.mondosonoro.com/blog-musica/ ... canciones/Sweepstakes Ron wrote:So I've removed Stereogum and added Irish Times to the spreadsheet. '2016 fifty songs
As usual in recent years collect fifty songs that, for one reason or another, have marked this 2016 for us.
Some justify their presence signified as high points of the album that contains in itself also representative of this 2016, but others also because it hits that could not fail to include.....
One last thing: the list is in alphabetical order and shuffle feels good, but neither disappoints as is. The taste of each.'
so based on this below doesn't appear to be eligible,

Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
Well, the previous years didn't have "best" or "favorite" in the title either, so I don't think we can hold that against them. And the inclusion of "as usual in recent years" probably means that the method of compiling the list was the same as before. So really, the only problem is determining whether or not the Spotify-exclusive nature of the playlist had a direct affect on certain songs being excluded (not that Beyoncé really needs a boost).JohnnyBGoode wrote:Looks like a playlist according to auto translate, doesn't even seem to say best or favourite in the title http://www.mondosonoro.com/blog-musica/ ... canciones/

EDIT: The Facebook post of this translates to: "Here's our favorite international fifty songs of the season. Could be a lot more, but those we love..."

Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
Happy either way. Not quite the same as Stereogum anyway as in Beyonce only #13 album, and only top 50 tracks, so her omission not quite as glaring, though would be interesting to know how many other lists of songs has Beyonce been excluded from. The only other one to do so on the 1st draft of the spreadsheet only had a top 10.

Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
Mondosonoro still has a national list to come, so we may come to a better conclusion when that happens. For now, it stays.

Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
I'm open for other opinions, but of these four I think only Classic Rock is eligible. That's the British magazine, right? What's uncertain about that?Sweepstakes Ron wrote:Classic Rock (UK)
Fuse (US)
LA Music Blog (US)
Red Bull (US)
I think that Fuse is not a main TV channel. LA Music Blog doesn't seem to have a lot of album reviews and Red Bull was said to have no album reviews at all.

Okay, I'll take your word for it. I guess I just was uncertain about Classic Rock because it hadn't been included before. I didn't realize it was a magazine, I assumed it was like Ultimate Classic Rock.Henrik wrote:I'm open for other opinions, but of these four I think only Classic Rock is eligible. Reactor 105.7 is elligible. Henrik said is elligible: "A radio or TV channel is eligible if it is a "main station" of a country (typically a public broadcasting service with a focus on music)", and it's the public radio from Mexico City. The list was chosen by the staff team.

Remezcla is my doubt. It is on the Alexa Rank: 60,961 http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/remezcla.com but only published 58 albums reviews last 365 days. But if we included songs and EP reviews they get the number http://remezcla.com/music/

The rule is for album reviews, so it's not eligible then.panam wrote:Remezcla is my doubt. Fader is a printed magazine. Do they have album reviews?

Re: Sources that have not been decided if they are eligible or not
The Interns only does "Album of the Week" reviews, so sadly not eligible.
Can anyone who understands the languages check the foreign sources?

Diario Crítica is not eligible. I don't see any album review
Revista Shock should be eligible. It's printed and it's of the main magazines in Colombia (also they have a music awards). And in every list they write all the critics that voted them.

Tonspion: http://www.tonspion.de/
Alexa Rank: 121, 859- o.k.
Number of linked Sites- Unknown, can someone help?
Reviews- This is the Problem. I think the Reviews on the site are recommendations and recommendations are not sufficient. The Operators of the site themselves call their "reviews" recommendations. The number of the recommendations is more than 10 per month.
Lists made by the stuff- yes
All in all, for me not eligible. Other german or german speaking forumers are invited to visit the site and forge an opinion. Maybe theirs is another than mine.

I haven't tried to count the number of reviews, but I found a few lengthy reviews (and I don't see the word "recommendation"). Example: http://www.tonspion.de/musik/radiohead/ ... haped-pool

The text under the Genres means: "The most important Pop Albums, recommended by the staff of tonspion". And the descriptions of the Albums for me are more recommendations than Reviews. The Review of the radiohead Album is an ekseption. This I would also call a Review. On the other Hand no one knows, if all the reviews from the world wide sources would stand up to my strict requirements. Finally I am pleased that the lists are deemed eligible. The song list is really good, far better than many lists from the great American sources. I will try to transcribe it as soon as possible, but I can't say, when I find the time.
