AMF Chart Week 43

Post by spiritualized »

Bonjour à tous et toutes,
This is the newest version of the chart, based on your votes and nominations from last week. Nice turnout - 103 votes. Please keep voting, this makes this chart all the more relevant.

Huge changes this week with a surprise n°1 : Preoccupations - Memory !
I have decided to add a quick write-up (from various sources, not my own) about the band/artist and the song itself when it reaches n°1. This should give us a nice background to the chart.

Noteworthy too : Bon Iver's fall from the radar, with two out of the three songs not garnering enough interest to make it this week.

Please also note that the new rules are almost in : no more than 2 tracks per artist and an induction in the hall of fame after 8 weeks in the chart.

About the band (from Wikipedia) : Preoccupations are a Canadian post-punk band, that formed in Calgary, Alberta in 2012 under the name Viet Cong. The group consists of two ex-members of the rock band Women, vocalist/bassist Matt Flegel and drummer Mike Wallace, as well as guitarists Scott Munro and Daniel Christiansen. The group's musical style has been described as "labyrinthine post-punk"

About the song : “Memory” was the second song that we started working on for Preoccupations after “Anxiety”. It was unique to the sessions of the record in that we worked on it in every studio that we were in. The idea we had for it’s arc made it necessary to put more work into it than any of the other tracks. The finished result was worked on in 6 different studios over almost two years. Getting Dan in to record the vocals was the final piece of the puzzle and was Matt’s idea. We were tracking in Montreal and cold-called him to see if he wanted to sing a duet of sorts, but his vocal was so perfect for it that we didn’t use Matt’s for most of it.

Enjoy :)

Hall of Fame 2016 - I reserve the right to play a little competition at the end of the year to pit these hall-of-famers against each other...

I haven't checked this out since it started up again, but if it hasn't been nominated, I would like to put forth "Make Hay" by Joanna Newsom.
