Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Serious question: Does everyone want to know the results so quickly that I should just post the Top 20 as a tiny list, no bells and whistles, pics, or any of that crap? Cuz it would save me alot of time that I don't honestly have, between work, friends, family, and a girlfriend, things I would definitely prefer to spend my evening on...
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
I have no problem with that JimmyJazz and submit the spreadsheet too. I don't care for the pictures anyway, it's not like we don't know what they looked like. I understand that you have some personal things to take care of. Know that I'm very grateful for your effort especially the gathering of votes and the presentation.JimmyJazz wrote:Serious question: Does everyone want to know the results so quickly that I should just post the Top 20 as a tiny list, no bells and whistles, pics, or any of that crap? The artist's rank, points accumulated, total votes and spots gained/lost from the last poll should be enough.

Yeah, I'm down for that. But you should put a bunch of line breaks in between each artist to make it more suspenseful!

Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Thank you so much, JimmyJazz! Without you this wouldn't be possible. Sounds like a good plan!JimmyJazz wrote:Serious question: Does everyone want to know the results so quickly that I should just post the Top 20 as a tiny list, no bells and whistles, pics, or any of that crap? I'm sorry for being pushy; speed is not my issue, but consistency!
But again, my gratitude exceeds any negativity I'm expressing!

We all kinda know who they are. The order is the only mystery left.
Besides, you could always retroactively plug that stuff in later.
" Ah, yes! Our meager restitution"

Jimmy, please don't let the pressure of the poll get to you. You've said a few times that you're dealing with some personal stuff, which absolutely takes precedence over the unveiling of this poll. We can wait.

Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
And since I haven't yet, I need to express my gratitude for you, JimmyJazz, in taking up this poll. I simply haven't listened to enough music to feel like I could vote, but I still very much enjoy seeing the results and taking part in discussion and speculation, and I can't imagine the work it takes to make all this happen. So thanks a bunch.

Yeah, please don't rush this because a few people are impatient.
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Better impatient than insensitive. JimmyJazz is basically pleading to end the presentation of the results because of "time that I don't honestly have, between work, friends, family, and a girlfriend, things I would definitely prefer to spend my evening on..."BleuPanda wrote:Moonbeam wrote:Jimmy, please don't let the pressure of the poll get to you. Even if we can wait, wouldn't JimmyJazz be distracted that this rollout is not yet over to really focus on the important stuff going on around him?

Yeah, I was in favor of the rushing because Jimmy himself seemed a bit impatient. I don't think it would deter the discussion much, either.

Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Sorry, the phrasing of Jimmy's question and the comment before 25 looks to me like he's only ready to be done with this because we're making it stressful by continuously asking. Maybe he is just ready to finish, but I don't want it to be because we've collectively annoyed him into wanting to get it over with.
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
I'll have a play at predicting the top 15:
1) Beatles
2) Dylan
3) Radiohead
4) Bowie
5) Prince
6) Rolling Stones (I always underestimate the love people have for the Rolling Stones though)
7) Bruce Springsteen
8) Beach Boys
9) Michael Jackson
10) Led Zeppelin
11) Stevie Wonder
12) R.E.M.
13) Pink Floyd
14) The Velvet Underground
15) Smiths
Dylan and the Beach Boys were the only ones of the 15 in my top 30.

Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Jimi Hendrix dropped a few places, but it's still a very good place. Don't be sad, Listyguy. Some people's favorite ended up at #166 after all. I'm sure there's a huge difference between #166 and #20. Be happy!Listyguy wrote:Jimi noooooooooo
And that is such a beautiful picture of Bjork. I mean, wow. Just reminds me of how much I love the Debut cover. And, JimmyJazz, we can wait... somewhat. I hope things are going well for you.
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
I agree with this. I'm happy if Jimmy wants to simply post the remaining artists and point totals. I'm happy if he wants to wait a bit and post just the remaining artists and point totals. I'm happy if he wants to wait a bit longer and post the remaining artists and the other neat statistics.BleuPanda wrote:Sorry, the phrasing of Jimmy's question and the comment before 25 looks to me like he's only ready to be done with this because we're making it stressful by continuously asking. Basically, I just feel he should be allowed to finish on whatever time frame and in whatever level of detail he would like.
I'm sorry if my comment came across with an implicit expectation that he should wait to post the results, whether this be to roll out all of the neat statistics or for whatever other reason. I just don't want him to be annoyed by the forum when he has put in a lot of work into the poll - that's all.
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
I disagree on the "whatever time frame" part, for one thing we don't know how long will his personal issues be resolved, one or two weeks delay I'm okay with but if it stretches to about a month then I strongly prefer releasing the bare-boned results now.Moonbeam wrote:Basically, I just feel he should be allowed to finish on whatever time frame and in whatever level of detail he would like.BleuPanda wrote:Sorry, the phrasing of Jimmy's question and the comment before 25 looks to me like he's only ready to be done with this because we're making it stressful by continuously asking. Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Okay, peeps, the long, oh-so-excruciatingly awaited holy divine and immaculate Top 10 (of this current year)'s Artists of All Time will be unveiled tomorrow. Then the sheets will all be posted, and I will be probably spending some time away from this forum for a bit, to take a break after this tedious stupid four month long poll.

I think it just represents the most consistently loved, and not necessarily the album with the most #1's.babydoll wrote:Is it me or does it hurt to see Post being the most-loved of Bjork's album here?
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
But Homogenic and Vespertine is infinitely better than Post... I guess I will never understand the love for that album.
And considering the jump for R.E.M. and other similar alternative bands, I'm afraid of Radiohead's position now. I'm terrified, especially considering how much I think Radiohead has gotten overrated these last few years.

Aww, I was kind of hoping The Beach Boys would keep their streak of 9th place finishes, even though I didn't vote for them.
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
I really liked Debut, but Post was a step up for me as a fan. It is a bit all over the map, but its colorful sprawl is part of the charm, I find. Plus, "Isobel" is my favorite song of hers.babydoll wrote:But Homogenic and Vespertine is infinitely better than Post... I guess I will never understand the love for that album.

As for Radiohead, I would easily root for them to take the number 1 spot over the usual suspects (Beatles, Dylan, and Stones). I don't think anyone is going to touch The Beatles - they won by 700+ points in 2008, 1000+ points in 2010, and 600+ points in 2013.

Blech, R.E.M. in the top 10? Blergh.
I should have realized that newcomers would boost them.
But hooray for Stevie Wonder remaining in the top 10! Woot woot
You deserve a rest after this, JimmyJazz.
P.S. Congrats to the VU for capturing 3/4 of voters' hearts!
I can never tell the Wilsons apart haha...
P.P.S. The votes for Kanye and Jimi were extremely close: 1095.3 < 1095.8
Velvet Underground barely edged out the Beach Boys! 1549.7 < 1557.1

Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
REM was expected.
I actually thought Michael Jackson would be in the Top 5 and Bob Dylan would drop out.
Pretty good Top 10, all deserving acts indeed.
As for Top 3, I think Stones could be on the outside looking in with Beatles, Radiohead, and either Dylan or Bowie in that last spot. Beatles might not have had every #1, but of the 64 lists submitted, they probably appeared on about all but four or five, rough estimate.

Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Héhé...I don't found those have bad voice. It's what I have try to explain, badly for sure, at the end of my post. On music, it's no need to explain why we don't like an artist (and I try to like so hard with some artist like Dylan or Kanye West for example). Some like, some don't and whatever the other, if you you love an artist, regardless of the opinion of the world.Dexter wrote:If we based an artists worth just for his/her voice or ability to hold a melody then there's no business having Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground (Reed & Nico), The Smashing Pumpkins (Billy Corgan), Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Kanye West (rapping skill) in the top 100.PlasticRam wrote:Also in those songs his voice sounds better than usually.Romain wrote: If I remember correctly, I already said some years ago that his voice reminded me of a mix between the dental drill and a rusty chainsaw and, except for few songs (Lay Lady Lay and Knock on the heaven's door for example), there was almost no melodies, so, it's not my cup of tea.
Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
I know. It was perhaps one of the most perfect streaks in AMF history. The ninth place was such a random number to be perpetually stuck in. I loved it. I can't believe they fell. I guess the stigma of "Kokomo" weighed too heavily on voters' heads.Moonbeam wrote:Aww, I was kind of hoping The Beach Boys would keep their streak of 9th place finishes, even though I didn't vote for them.

By refusing to stream his music. I know people obsessed with the '80s who don't even know who he is. That is not okay. "Purple Rain", "Kiss", "When Doves Cry", "Sign o' the Times", and others should more better known than currently.Moonbeam wrote:How did he ruin his legacy?babydoll wrote:1. The Beatles

His music is available for streaming through Tidal (though I don't have a subscription). Nonetheless, I think the state of affairs that his estate is in will lead to a broader streaming deal at some point.babydoll wrote:By refusing to stream his music. Is it just me, or JimmyJazz sounds really jaded in his last few messages? I don't know what the shit he's going through IRL is but it looks like he's lost all enthusiasm for this thing.
Jimmy, my friend, please don't feel like we're being impatient or mean or anything. People here are really grateful and respectful for what you've done and I don't want you to have a bad opinion of this community because of a few impatient folks. If you need to talk, we're here

I agree with Moonbeam here. An album full of hits, of magnificient songs and incredible sensitivity..I think is my favorite by her even if Debut, Homogenic and Vespertine are incredible too.Moonbeam wrote:No, I think it's among her best 3 (along with Homogenic and Vespertine).babydoll wrote:Is it me or does it hurt to see Post being the most-loved of Bjork's album here?
It's a fabulous tetralogy and I hardly manage not to mix everything in a single perfect work.
P.S.: and Jimmyjazz, it's simple, you make what you want. I just hope your wrong time will be only very temporary.

It's not like his catalog is on impossible to find or afford 78s. His death lead to the usual music-buying frenzy. Anyway, as mentioned, we'll see how things go from here...babydoll wrote:By refusing to stream his music. I know people obsessed with the '80s who don't even know who he is. That is not okay. Go Bjork! I'm sure I had something to do with her rise as I don't have as much overlap with many of the people she jumped over.
I think Post does so well due to its kaleidoscopic nature. All her other albums are very much one flavor, and if you aren't a fan of it, it's difficult to redeem. Most artists are careful with their second release, but she made an album full of risks.
