Since they show the cover of the LP in the gallery, and they talk about two songs from the album in the blurb ("What's Going On" and "What's Happening, Brother?"), I assume they mean the album "What's Going On", not the single.

This looks like a single critic list, doesn't it? It would still be eligible though.

Should "most influential" lists be eligible? I can think of a hypothetical case where a record is so bad, that it influences lots of other artists to change their style of music, or a record that is purely influential based on record sales or hype, rather than greatness.

For example - "Cop Killer" was influential based on the amount of media interest. "Never Gonna Give You Up" was recently influential based on a media phenomenon that had nothing to do with the quality of the song. "Rock Around the Clock" and "Rappers Delight" were clearly two of the most influential songs of all time, but does this mean that they were two of the greatest?

AM's included these kinds of lists for some time.

I think in most cases, the works are decently acclaimed. While "Never Gonna Give You Up" featured on one 80s list not too long ago, I don't think we'll be seeing it on a serious "Most Influential" list. :P

Lists like these (or at least lists of albums/songs that "changed the world") are somewhat downweighted.

Fair enough, bad examples!

Ok - for "Records that Changed the World", I can think of Thomas Edison's recording of Mary had a Little Lamb, David Hasselhoff on the Berlin Wall, Gangnam Style, Amen Brother, various charity singles, Rocket 88, My Bonny. All certainly changed the world in their own way, but I don't know how many of them I'd want in my record collection!
