So far, about what I expected.

I can see any of the Top four winning.

My only surprises came from "Flesh without Blood" beating "REALiTi", "Ship to Wreck" beating "What Kind of Man?", and I thought "Lean On" would be lower, about bottom 10.

Otherwise, very decent and seems to go with my theory that 2015 has been better than the previous two years put together!

Is it me being over-sensitive or does Björk always get snubbed when it comes to songs? No Black Lake in sight, which is disappointing.

Thanks for keeping that Spotify playlist going! It's coming in handy for remembering all the songs I had forgot this year.

I'm kinda sad that "Only One" is nowhere to be seen... Maybe it'll show up in 2016 lists, or whenever SWISH drops...

Yeah I'm sad too. What hurts it a little bit I think is that it officially came out in 2014.
I feel like that

I'll wait until we get more lists and everything sorts itself out to give my full thoughts, because there's a lot of questionable stuff going on here. I do have a something positive to say, though: the prospect of "Leave a Trace" becoming the highest ranked CHVRCHES song greatly pleases me.

I really wish there was a better correlation between the critics list and RYM's top singles. RYM's list is kinda biased towards established artists, while the critics tend to pick only one song from each artist. A hybrid of the two would have been nice.

Still, how come every critic (well except Spin) pick "King Kunta" instead of "The Blacker the Berry"??? Some kind of secret conspiracy?

I'll never get the acclaim for "I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times)". Worst track from "In Colour".

I'm in team Kunta but I am more than a bit bewildered by "The Blacker the Berry" being in 73rd place.

And for much of the year "Good Times" was my favorite track from In Colour so I'm pretty pleased with its showing here. "Gosh" grew on me, though, and is in my top ten for the year now.

And each update just makes me more and more sure that "Let It Happen" will be the most acclaimed song of the year. Might go down to the wire, though, but I see a top 300 spot for it on the next update.

Let me join in the chorus of people baffled by the lack of acclaim for "The Blacker the Berry." I especially thought it would do better because its message seemed so timely with the current climate of social issues. To me, it's the clear standout on "TPAB."

But then last year I thought the clear standout on "Random Access Memories" was "Giorgio By Moroder," and "Get Lucky" got all the acclaim, so it shows you what I know...

Is there an echo in here?

Count me in for camp "Black the Berry". "King Kunta" is great too, but it's not "Black the Berry" level.

The Blacker the Berry will most likely move up I reckon; we still have a lot more lists to go. Kendrick Lamar is absolutely slaying the albums spreadsheet though. I'm guessing his album will be the most dominant number 1 since My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

If I'm remembering correctly, MBDTF wasn't even #1 for its year initially. The joy of early EOY lists and late releases.

Actually, it was only number 3 for its year for the longest time on the spreadsheet. Both "The Suburbs" and "High Violet" were beating it forever.

Spreadsheet-wise, I believe that's how it resulted as too.

In terms of when the site itself was finally updated for 2010, which didn't happen until mid-2013, I believe MBDTF was #1.

I think The Suburbs was actually, like, 175th on that update, while MBDTF was around 230.

Oh my bad. I might have been confusing AM poll with Metacritic's annual year-end critics list roundup for that year.

Wow, lot of changes!

Good ones like:
10 (25) Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

Bad ones like:

Also, the top 9 seems pretty solid so far.

Thank you so much Henrik for updating the song list. I can't imagine how much work it is, but it is very much appreciated. Same to Harold for the albums updates! You guys are great.

With that said, here are my opinions on the current song rankings:

Songs That Are Ranked Too High:
8. Alright, Kendrick Lamar: TPAB is definitely the album of the year, but "Alright" is not one of the standout tracks on the album. This spot belongs to "The Blacker the Berry." I'd argue "These Walls" or "Wesley's Theory" should get the third spot from the album.

15. What Went Down, Foals: I cannot get into this song. "Mountain at My Gate" is a much, much better song, in my opinion.

31. Bad Blood, Taylor Swift feat. Kendrick Lamar: Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Taylor Swift. In fact, I'm almost surely the biggest T-Swift fan on Acclaimed Music. But this isn't one of the better songs on the album. It's sad that Taylor Swift gets more praise for a lesser song just because Kendrick Lamar is included - "Style" is the much better 2015 release regardless of the fact that Kendrick Lamar isn't on it.

Anything by Future: I just don't get his music, and frankly, I don't really like it.

Songs That Are Ranked Too Low:

Cause I'm a Man, Tame Impala: Sure, the lyrics are kind of lame, but it's as catchy and beautiful as anything else on the album and is even better than the number 2 ranked song of the year, imo.

Chatea Lobby #4, Father John Misty: The album has so many great songs that the picks are getting split, but this is my favorite song on the album. Glad to see "The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment" do well though!

In Time, FKA twigs: FKA twigs is getting praised for other songs, but this one deserves more recognition.

When We Were Young, Adele: I think this song is going to make a lot of lists next year, but it's a 2015 song - so put it on some 2015 lists!

Things I Love:

Carly Rae Jepsen's "Run Away With Me" has entered the top 10. It's the catchiest song of the year.

"Loud Places" at 14 - Glad it's not being overlooked, just because it's the second best song on a really great album

"Kill vs. Maim" has a strong showing. I was afraid this song would be overlooked by the other great Grimes' songs

The problem with RYM on the singles side is that there aren't enough votes (mainly an issue with recent years). So the less known artists don't get enough votes to register once the votes are weighted.

I am surprised with King Kunta taking the #1 spot. I am still expecting Let It Happen to take it back by the end.

Jamie xx doing very well with 3 in top 25 - Loud Places is the only one that I really like out of these.

And I was expecting Realiti to outrank Flesh Without Blood. I wonder if either would be much higher without the other.

Song lists are naturally so much more variable than consensus album lists - which I feel generally come close to getting everything ranked in the general ball park relative to the other works released this year...but gotta say not hearing the year in singles anything like the consensus song list so far.

For my money - best songs of the year were Depreston, Blacker The Berry and The Ideal Husband.

But also several amazing songs that have gained no traction this year

Trying - Bop English
Bunker Buster - Viet Cong
Thought I Was A Spaceman - Blur
Garbage - Royal Headache
Summer Of Love - Waxahatchee
Time, As A Symptom - Joanna Newsom etc, etc.

Thousand thanks for doing this Setherex! I'm very impressed with how quickly you update the playlist order after each update of the spreadsheet!

Would it help you if I extended the last update positions to the full list, and not only the top 100?

It's because most of my life events nowadays consist of hitting refresh on your website :D :?

No, it's perfectly fine! I usually just download the spreadsheet and go down the list verbatim. Thank you for continuously updating it in the first place, though! A much more rigorous job, I'm sure.

38 (31) Taylor Swift feat. Kendrick Lamar - Bad Blood

Sorry to be pedantic, but this one needs a "[2014]" - it was on the album she released last year, despite not going massive until the music video came out in 2015.

Love the list this year - great work Henrik!

Except that this version, featuring Lamar, is not the same one that's on the album - I'm pretty sure that this single mix wasn't released until 2015.

Unless every single vote is for the remix, we'd have to do what was done with "Flawless" and credit both version under one listing, with the original release year.

I'm fairly certain that so far, yes, every entry has been for the Kendrick Lamar remix.

I lied. There are two exceptions: NME, which clearly references the song within the music video, which is the remix, and Intro, which I don't really have a good case for.

So, discretion. I would argue that this is a different case from "Flawless" in that those votes could have been attributed to the remix or the album version based on the list and writer since "Beyonce" was released so late, whereas "Bad Blood" the 2014 album version is clearly released within a different year voting period from "Bad Blood" the 2015 single version.

But I'd be much happier with Henrik coming up with a decision for us :D

For the record, I was going to bring up a similar point earlier this month in differentiating "REALiTi" the album version from "REALiTi" the single, music video, demo version, but no list seemed to be clearly distinguishing between the two :(

I figured this thread might be the best place to post this - is everyone aware that the physical CD release of Art Angels contains the demo version of "REALiTi" as a bonus track (by what I assume was popular demand)?

Just wanted to point out to make sure you were aware, Henrik, that four of the five lists that list Big Sean's "Blessings" list it as the extended version with Kanye West. The original album version, which only has Big Sean and Drake, appears on Pretty Much Amazing's list.

If it was important, or if you wanted to note it somehow.

In a similar vein to Andre's post, "Chateau Lobby #4" should be marked as 2014 as well.

I certainly didn't foresee "King Kunta" doing so well. Top ten, sure, but vying for the number one spot of 2015? That's very surprising. And I also am stunned at "Hotline Bling"'s placement. I really like the song but it doesn't seem right that it will likely become Drake's most highly placed song on AM. He probably has at least a dozen songs I prefer. And as for the best song off Fading Frontier, I certainly pick "Breaker" but perhaps it's too much of a Real Estate ripoff for the critics.
