The final and, for me, weakest week of the first round. Bird Dog is strong and American Beauty is a good soundtrack but the rest is all below 8.0 for me. The Boredoms album is certainly better than the one we had a few weeks ago, but it's still kinda boring.

1. The Verlaines - Bird Dog
2. Thomas Newman - American Beauty
3. Tom Waits - Alice
4. Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
5. The D.O.C. - No One Can Do It Better
6. Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)
7. Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Most wanted
8. Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun

16/1

Erykah Badu - New Amerykah (#214 AT)
Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Most Wanted 8/10

Better album goes to Erykah, but the 'Best mispelling of America'
trophy goes to Ice Cube. Icecube's meter sounds pretty similar to
Public Enemy's.

16/2

Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun 8/10
Tom Waits - Alice 6/10

Alice is the only Tom Waits album I've heard that I'm not all that fond of.

16/3

The D.O.C. - No One Can Do It Better 6/10
Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny 5/10

I'm so used to hearing this kind of metal with more virtuosic guitar
playing. Without it it's just some guy screaming about
apocalypse-related things over a bassline even I could play.

16/4

Thomas Newman - American Beauty 8/10
The Verlaines - Bird Dog 8/10

Biggest surprise of the week, since I'm not usually into movie scores.

My picks:
1. Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Most Wanted over Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One
Simply much more entertained by "Amerikka's", though this is the best Badu I've heard.
2. Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun over Tom Waits - Alice
Close, but a case of "which one would I reach for first?"
3. Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny over The D.O.C. - No One Can Do It Better
Hoped for more from the Priest :music-rockon: ; this one hits me as slightly comical... still, gets the narrow victory over D.O.C. (favorite = "Tyrant").
4. The Verlaines - Bird Dog over Thomas Newman - American Beauty
"Bird Dog" is my favorite album.

Thanks!

1. Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One
Always had a "difficult" relationship with this CD. Parts of it are excellent. Others are "difficult"

Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Most Wanted

2. Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun

Tom Waits - Alice
No rockers on this one. Takes time to appreciate all the slow songs

3. The D.O.C. - No One Can Do It Better
Almost old school hip hop, produced by Dr. Dre

Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny

4. pass
Thomas Newman - American Beauty
The Verlaines - Bird Dog

1. Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One vs. Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Most Wanted

Despite that terrible song where Ice Cube threatens to punch a pregnant woman in the stomach, I still find this album to be solid early nineties hip hop.

2. Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun vs. Tom Waits - Alice

Alice accentuates the elements I've never really liked about Tom Waits without providing the elements that I do like. Vision Creation Newsun is weird, but in a good way. I'm excited to listen to it again and try and unpack it.

2. Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun

As I said, the problem with Super AE was that the annoying part was in the beginning, here the last 2 tracks are fairly annoying, but you've already been through 45 minutes of a rewarding trip through the craziest tribal psychotrop music you could imagine. I'm not a big fan of Tom Waits anyway, though each of his album has its enjoyable moments and his artistic sense and personal imagery force respect.

I think 10 of the albums were nominations from me and of those only one didn't make it to the next round. Last week it was an unbelievable 9-0 for me! But finally one album got beaten in a tiebraker (American Beauty).

Consequently my predictions have been pretty good too (second place). Keep up the good voting, everyone! :romance-kisscheek:

I believe I am 5-5, but I don't 100% remember which nominations are mine.

I'm actually below 500 in predict it, BUT my final four all won resoundingly, so I'm still in this.

If this is still open, I'll vote for John Fahey to break the tie. He's still a little structureless for my tastes, but I prefer his unity of style to the schizophrenic Our Favourite Shop.
