The former is a serialised piece that was ran by them as a 'one off', while the latter is in part due a writer reaction to the NME's recent list. I can't believe it's already been two years since the Guardian did the 'My Favourite Album' series.

Just to note, it seems that second list is somewhat inconsistent. Some entries are followed with the number of times they were voted for in parentheses and some are just listed multiple times (see, David Bowie - Hunky Dory)
