AMF Chart Week 9 2015

Post by Setherex »

Welcome to Week 9 of the AMF Chart! The chart where we're cautiously spending time without the poll being full of Kanye songs... yet...

Here are your rankings for Week 8 (number of weeks on the chart so far in parentheses):
1. Björk - "Black Lake" (5)
2. Sleater-Kinney - "No Cities to Love" (3)
3. Father John Misty - "I Love You, Honeybear" (2)
4. Belle and Sebastian - "Nobody's Empire" (7)
5. Chromatics - "Just Like You" (1)
6. Ibeyi - "River" (2)
6. Kendrick Lamar - "The Blacker the Berry" (2)
8. Courtney Barnett - "Pedestrian at Best" (4)
9. Africa Express - "In C Mali" (1)
9. Father John Misty - "Strange Encounter" (1)
9. Sufjan Stevens - "No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross" (1)
12. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - "Multi-Love" (3)
13. Natalie Prass - "It Is You" (4)
14. Zola Jesus - "Compass" (1)
15. Pond - "Elvis' Flaming Star" (2)
16. Alabama Shakes - "Don't Wanna Fight" (1)
16. Denai Moore - "Blame" (1)
16. Florence + The Machine - "What Kind of Man" (1)
16. Natalia Lafourcade - "Hasta la Raíz" (1)
20. Siska - "Unconditional Rebel" (1)
Total Votes: 85

Impressive that a 40-minute long song made it through the week. Barely, mind you all, and with a tie to drag it along, but still. Honestly, I haven't listened to it in its entirety yet, but I'll correct that soon enough. Any piece of music that can knock out Alabama Shakes and Florence has to be a winner, right? Due to the tie for 9th place, the top 11 songs from last week's chart went on to this week's.

2015 Chart-Toppers by Week (by vote count, not chart position; total weeks atop chart in parentheses):
1. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (2) / Kanye West feat. Paul McCartney - "Only One"
2. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (3)
3. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (4)
4. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (5) / Belle and Sebastian - "Nobody's Empire"
5. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (6)
6. Belle and Sebastian - "Nobody's Empire" (2)
7. Björk - "Black Lake"
8. Björk - "Black Lake" (2)

2014 Hall of Fame (10 weeks of advancing votes; automatically retired from chart):
St. Vincent - "Digital Witness" (Week 1-14)
Warpaint - "Love Is to Die" (Week 1-11)
Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" (Week 2-14)
tUnE-yArDs - "Water Fountain" (Week 9-18)
Future Islands - "Seasons (Waiting on You)" (Week 10-19)
The War on Drugs - "Under the Pressure" (Week 10-19)
Lana Del Rey - "West Coast" (Week 15-24)
The Black Keys - "Weight of Love" (Week 16-25)
Owen Pallett - "The Riverbed" (Week 17-26)
Jon Allen - "Night and Day" (Week 18-27)
First Aid Kit - "My Silver Lining" (Week 19-28)
Spoon - "Do You" (Week 22-31)
Interpol - "All the Rage Back Home" (Week 25-34)
Röyksopp & Robyn - "Every Little Thing" (Week 27-36)
Sun Kil Moon - "Micheline" (Week 28-37)
Leonard Cohen - "Almost Like the Blues" (Week 31-40)
Sharon Van Etten - "Our Love" (Week 31-40)
Spoon - "Outlier" (33-42)
Sharon Van Etten - "Every Time the Sun Comes Up" (41-4)
Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (43-6)
Sharon Van Etten - "Your Love Is Killing Me" (44-7)

Songs that entered the chart in 2014 will be added to the 2014 Hall of Fame, rather than the 2015 Hall of Fame.

Here is this week's 18-song Spotify chart (with 2 songs included below via YouTube link):

Here is your 2015 AMF Chart playlist of all songs on the chart so far this year:

Thank you all for voting and nominating continuously every week! Please don't be afraid to supply us with nominations - all songs six months old and younger (or who have received promotion via album/video/single in the last six months) are accepted! And seconding nominations by others' gives those songs a better chance at making the next poll!

As per usual, the next poll will be created as close to Sunday at 19:00 UTC as I can make it. Best of voting! :D

Also, apologies to Rdwdbob - it appears that Kopecky's "Are You Listening" dates back to around 2013. Not that I check nomination dates very often, but I was curious in this case. Sorry! Please always supply us with more noms, though. You, as well as everyone else, are particularly good at it :)

Is that kind of like all the kids in Lake Woebegon being "above average"?

I'll nominate Lake Huron's "The Night We Met" as I just missed the cut off last week.

By that logic, you're all very strong and good looking too. But don't take it from me ;)

Two weeks ago there were 3 female nominations from my side. None of them survived the first week ... you should all be ashamed of yourself :angry-nono:

No nominations last week since down hill skiing had my focus.

This week, let's try these 3 male nominations:
1. Viet Cong - Continental Shelf
2. The Tallest Man On Earth - Sagres
3. Calexico - Falling From The Sky

I would like to nominate Aina mun pitää by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. It's a punk song by a retarded band, but they're actually very professional. It was just selected as Finland's entry to Eurovision.
I feel like that

No apologies necessary Setherex, (wow! try saying that ten times fast!). My bad for trusting iTunes on their release dates. Here are a couple that I am 100% positive are newbies:

Blur - 'Go Out'
Noel Gallagher - 'Ballad Of The Mighty I'

The song of course is by Lord Huron. Lake Huron is probably still frozen solid.

A million times, yes.

Reminder to get your votes, nominations, and seconding of nominations in before the new poll tomorrow.

In a week of so many favorites it's hard to choose... I choose:
Courtney Barnett - "Depreston"
Kelela - "A Message"
Chromatics - "I Can Never Be Myself When You're Around"
