AMF Chart Week 6 2015

Post by Setherex »

Welcome to Week 6 of the AMF Chart! The chart where Alvvays would probably top the chart every week if we didn't have rules against that sort of thing...

Here are your rankings for Week 5 (number of weeks on the chart so far in parentheses):
1. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (9)
2. Courtney Barnett - "Pedestrian at Best" (1)
3. Ben Howard - "End of the Affair" (2)
4. Belle and Sebastian - "Nobody's Empire" (4)
5. Sharon Van Etten - "Your Love Is Killing Me" (8)
6. Lupe Fiasco - "Mural" (1)
6. Natalie Prass - "It Is You" (1)
8. Björk - "Black Lake" (2)
9. Viet Cong - "Silhouettes" (4)
10. Kanye West feat. Paul McCartney - "Only One" (5)
10. Laura Marling - "Short Movie" (5)
12. Aphex Twin - "diskhat ALL prepared1mixed 13" (1)
13. Björk - "Stonemilker" (2)
14. Death Cab for Cutie - "Black Sun" (1)
15. Torres - "Strange Hellos" (1)
16. alt-J - "Nara" (2)
17. Alan Doyle - "I Can't Dance Without You" (1)
17. Ghost Culture - "Glass" (1)
17. Twin Shadow - "To the Top" (1)
20. Napalm Death - "Hierarchies" (1)
Total Votes: 102

Due to the tie for 10th, the top 11 songs from last week's chart went on to this week's. The big story around these parts is probably still Alvvays' domination of the chart-topping position. Six weeks in a row, almost entirely solo, is kind of insane. But hey, I don't mind. Also of note is the amount of songs that have been receiving seconding support recently. Makes me feel bad sometimes that we have to take out some strong solo nominations when the chart floods over with ties.

2015 Chart-Toppers by Week (by vote count, not chart position; total weeks atop chart in parentheses):
1. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (2) / Kanye West feat. Paul McCartney - "Only One"
2. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (3)
3. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (4)
4. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (5) / Belle and Sebastian - "Nobody's Empire"
5. Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" (6)

2014 Hall of Fame (10 weeks of advancing votes; automatically retired from chart):
St. Vincent - "Digital Witness" (Week 1-14)
Warpaint - "Love Is to Die" (Week 1-11)
Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" (Week 2-14)
tUnE-yArDs - "Water Fountain" (Week 9-18)
Future Islands - "Seasons (Waiting on You)" (Week 10-19)
The War on Drugs - "Under the Pressure" (Week 10-19)
Lana Del Rey - "West Coast" (Week 15-24)
The Black Keys - "Weight of Love" (Week 16-25)
Owen Pallett - "The Riverbed" (Week 17-26)
Jon Allen - "Night and Day" (Week 18-27)
First Aid Kit - "My Silver Lining" (Week 19-28)
Spoon - "Do You" (Week 22-31)
Interpol - "All the Rage Back Home" (Week 25-34)
Röyksopp & Robyn - "Every Little Thing" (Week 27-36)
Sun Kil Moon - "Micheline" (Week 28-37)
Leonard Cohen - "Almost Like the Blues" (Week 31-40)
Sharon Van Etten - "Our Love" (Week 31-40)
Spoon - "Outlier" (33-42)
Sharon Van Etten - "Every Time the Sun Comes Up" (41-4)

Songs that entered the chart in 2014 will be added to the 2014 Hall of Fame, rather than the 2015 Hall of Fame.

Here is this week's 16-song Spotify chart (with 1 song included below via external link, and 3 via YouTube link):

Bob Dylan - "That Lucky Old Sun"
Here is your 2015 AMF Chart playlist of all songs on the chart so far this year:

Thank you all for voting and nominating continuously every week! Please don't be afraid to supply us with nominations - all songs six months old and younger (or who have received promotion via album/video/single in the last six months) are accepted! And seconding nominations by others' gives those songs a better chance at making the next poll!

As per usual, the next poll will be created as close to Sunday at 19:00 GMT as I can make it. Best of voting! :D

Success is nothing to apologize for. Just means I have to try again with Rhiannon Gidden's "Don't Let It Trouble Your Mind."

I'd like to nominate Holy Shit by Father John Misty.

Edit: Or maybe that's not the best song on the album. Some song anyway off I Love You, Honeybear.
I feel like that

Come on, there must be someone more than me who loves "Duvan"!

Why "Archie, Marry Me"? This is a 2014 song.

In general we have a 6 months window for nominations. However, at the end of the year we added songs from the eoy spreadsheet that had not been in the chart before, "Archie, Marry Me" among them. This is the 10th and last week for the song.

I do! I do! The rhythm reminds me of one of my favorites from the early 70's, The Spinners 'Could It Be I'm Falling In Love'. Has a Jessie Ware vibe too. Great nomination. Hope it
gets some votes.

Might I add a couple nominations for this week?

Awolnation - 'Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)'
Ricked Wicky - 'Well Suited'

Thanks :D

Yes, and "Archie, Marry Me" is marching straight through to the Hall of Fame and probably will get the highest number of votes. One week later, Sharon van Etten can also complete the 10 weeks, so in max. 2 weeks time we can wrap up the 2014 AMF Chart!

Oops, you are right. That's what can happen if you keep all AMF data in one Excel file, but 2014 and 2015 in separate sheets. :x

Here my corrected nominations:
1. Emile Haynie featuring Lana Del Rey - Wait For Life
2. Dutch Uncles - Decided Knowledge
3. Lower Dens - To Die In L.A.

Thanks Setherex!

Henrik, the Spotify link to this song does not work here in Germany, but I just listened to it via youtube. It is a nice song, but at the moment there are still 5 other songs in the chart that I like more. Will listen more this week, maybe it's a grower ...

yeah, such a great nomination pool from the last few weeks. I might as well re-nominate
Dumb - Jazmine Sullivan
Juntos - Juanes

and the 2 new songs:
YES (Love Theme From Lost River) - Chromatics (not an actual song but a score, but I love it anyway)
The Blacker the Berry - Kendrick Lamar

and I second the Lower Dens song - to Die in LA

Day before reminder to get your votes, nominations and seconding of nominations in before the new poll is made tomorrow.

Seconding Kendrick Lamar's "The Blacker the Berry" (which really is a triumph, by the way). Throwing in noms for:
Joanna Gruesome - "Last Year"
Chromatics - "Just Like You"
Braids - "Miniskirt"
