Welcome to Week 46 of the AMF Chart! The chart where, as the new year beckons, perhaps some highly debated rule changes are in order around these parts...

Total Votes: 80

Due to a tie for 10th, the top 11 songs from last week's chart went on to this week's. Unlike the week prior, which was an absolutely wreck in terms of veteran contenders, it seems that lasting quality has evened out a bit more since the EOY rule took effect. Still, the loss of yet another song on its 9th week is a hard one. We'll see how the rest of the year pans out (which is, as a reminder, only one more week following this one). I'd like very much to come up with a generally satisfying set of rule changes by then, so please continue to comment and suggest this topic! Last week's topic gave a lot of very viable and appreciated advice from everyone.

Here is your 2014 AMF Chart playlist of all songs on the chart so far:

Thank you all for voting and nominating continuously every week! Please don't be afraid to supply us with nominations - all songs six months old and younger (or who have received promotion via album/video/single in the last six months) are accepted! And seconding nominations by others' gives those songs a better chance at making the next poll!

As per usual, the next poll will be created as close to Sunday at 19:00 GMT as I can make it. Best of voting! :D

Just under the wire (released July 14) I'll nominate Torres "New Skin" available here.

As to the rule changes, I propose we go back to the pre-existing rules as of January 1. The exceptional extension beyond six months (where an older release receives "new" impetus) is sufficient unto the cause IMO; the onus being upon the nominator to establish why an older song is suddenly eligible to leap onto the charts.

And while I agree with DaveC that having multiple songs from one album splits the vote unnecessarily, it is also incumbent upon the nominator to take that into consideration.

If this chart reflects "real world" charts (Billboard, for example) these rules are not out of line. A monster album may produce competing hits, an older song may enter (or even re-enter) the charts due to new circumstances, but the majority of the songs should be based on what the "programmers" (us AMFers) find tickling our ears in that new stack of promos on our desk. Again IMO.

One final note, Setherex; while AM may be a democracy, or a benevolent dictatorship, as the most excellent host of this game, it is essentially your call.

Good to see D'Angelo already in the chart. After 2 listens, the new album sounds very promising. First candidate for the 2015 eoy lists, I guess.

My nomination: Panda Bear - Boys Latin
This song might eventually get on my nerves, but for the moment I like it.

I wish you all a prosperous and musically very attractive 2015!

How about doing our own AFM songs of the year's poll? We could include like the top 20 songs to vote? or songs in the Hall of Fame? or even songs that were #1 in single week to vote.

I've been thinking of that, actually, but I'm not sure if I'll go through with it considering how many big moves the last month of EOY songs has been making the chart. We'll see!

Either way, the new poll will be made tomorrow! Get in your votes, nominations and the like.

Gonna throw up D'Angelo's "The Charade" for nomination.
