Yeah, I give it 8.8. An adjective I'd like to use to describe the album is happy.

I also want to recommend Popcaan - Where We Come From.

Ought - More Than Any Other Day is also a really good album.

If you played it for me and told me it was recorded in 1978 in the post-punk movement, I would believe you.

Black Prairie - Fortune 85
The New Division - Together We Shine 84
Conor Oberst - Upside Down Mountain 84
SOHN - Tremors 80
Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots 78
Chevelle - La Gárgola 77
The Common Linnets - S/T 77
Sylvan Esso - S/T 77
Chrissie Hynde - Stockholm 76
First Aid Kit - Stay Gold 76
Tiny Ruins - Brightly Painted Ones 75
Lake Street Drive - Bad Self Portraits 74
The Hold Steady - Teeth Dreams 74
Jack White - Lazaretto 73
The Black Keys - Turn Blue 73
Amy LaVere - Runaway's Diary 72
Mac DeMarco - Salad Days 70
Ben Frost - AURORA 68
Marissa Nadler - July 67
Swans - To Be Kind 64
Foster The People - Supermodel 64
Fair Oaks - This Is the River 54
Neil Young - A Letter Home 40

I've been listening to a lot, but not keeping up with my rankings very well (this year, I swore, I will rank EVERY album I listen to... this year will be different!)

Just a few notes... both Lazaretto and Salad Days were disappointing for the same reason; covered too much territory without any sense of unity or theme.

Neil Young's album sounds like it was recorded in a 1940's phone booth on a whim... wait... oh, never mind.

Swans was an OK album that could have been vastly improved by being an hour shorter.

Pleasant surprises;

The Tiny Ruins album is highly recommended to fans of Angel Olsen and/or Marissa Nadler.
Black Prairie, obviously. Lots of great country records happening these days; see also The Common Linnets.
Chevelle's La Gárgola is an interesting album. Progressive metal.

Updated chart is here.

I have been listening alot to Todd Terje's album IT'S ALBUM TIME recently. Really liking the space disco-y stuff, but my favorite track on the album is the cover of "Johnny and Mary," originally a Robert Palmer track. Bryan Ferry really gives the song an even creepier vibe to it, and it sounds like it could have been plucked from the Drive soundtrack.

Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence - It's exactly what I hoped for after hearing West Coast.
Robyn and Royksopp - Do It Again - I want more please.
Jack White - Lazaretto - Another mixed bag of an album.
Chromeo - White Girls - The best kind of guilty pleasure.
Little Dragon - Nabuma Rubberband - A big let down :(
Pixies - Indie Cindy - Not that bad, really.
Kelis - Food - Finding her voice again. Some beautiful songs.
Temples - Sun Structures - A few good singles, repetitive songs otherwise.

Three New

Death Grips - Niggas On The Moon - I'm bias because I'm 100% guaranteed to love any project that involves Bjork. There is greatness to be found in some of these tracks (the sporadic base of Black Quarterback comes to mind) hopefully the other half of the album is less fierce.
Liars - Mess - I can have it on and it wont annoy me, but I'm not draw to it.
Kasabian - 48:13 - They just don't have what it takes to pull off the album. What are you trying to say?

St. Vincent - St. Vincent (93)
Neneh Cherry - Blank Project (90)
-
EMA - The Futures Void (85)
Damian Jurado - Brothers And Sisters… (81)
Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots (78)
Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence (77)
Robyn and Royksopp - Do It Again(76)

Dan Croll - Sweet Disarray (74)
Jack White - Lazaretto (74)
Todd Terje - It's Album Time (74)
Young Fathers - Dead (72)
Tune Yards - Nikki Nak (71)
Broken Bells - After The Disco (67)
Metromony - Love Letters (64)
Beck - Morning Phase (64)
Chromeo - White Girls (64)
Death Grips - Niggas On The Moon (64)

-
Little Dragon - Nabuma Rubberband (64)
Pixies - Indie Cindy (63)
Kelis - Food(63)

Mac Demarco - Salad Days (62)
Wild Beasts - Present Tense (60)
Kasabian - 48:13 (59)
Quilt - Held In Splendor (55)
Liars - Mess (53)
Pharrell - GIRL (48)
Temples - Sun Structures(48)
Lily Allen - Sheezus (47)

So what do you guys think of the new album by Lana Del Rey? I was not expecting that personally, I think it's really good stuff. She showcases some rock influences that are improving her sound, and although in my opinion the album is a bit overlong (one or two songs could have been cut), I believe it's far more solid than Born to Die. A good surprise.

Updated list, new stuff in bold.

Swans - To Be Kind: 9.1
Todd Terje - It's Album Time: 9.1
Future - Honest: 9.0
Popcaan - Where We Come From: 8.8
Jack White - Lazaretto: 8.8
Wild Beasts - Present Tense: 8.6
Behemoth - The Satanist: 8.5
Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots: 8.5
Aphex Twin - Caustic Window: 8.4
Parquet Courts - Sunbathing Animal: 8.3
Neneh Cherry - Blank Project: 8.1
St. Vincent - St. Vincent: 8.0
Ben Frost - Aurora: 8.0
Coldplay - Ghost Stories: 7.7
Willie Nelson - Band of Brothers: 7.5
Beck - Morning Phase: 7.5
Fear of Men - Loom: 7.3
Damien Jurado - Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son: 7.3
The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream: 7.3
Cloud Nothings - Here and Nowhere Else: 7.2
The Black Keys - Turn Blue: 7.0
Sun Kil Moon - Benji: 6.0
Bruce Springsteen - High Hopes: 4.5

Was disappointed with the Willie Nelson album, he's my favorite country artist of all time. One song is particularly horrible; it's from the perspective of the songwriter!

Two additions before a new AMCCh update (?)

White Lung - Deep Fantasy 78 Only 22 minutes? It's like punk speed dating.

Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence 74 Not as inconsistent as Born to Die and Paradise, but no big hit here either.

Been awhile since my last update, and this is a brief one. Hoping to have more soon.
Lykke Li - I didn't get into this one immediately like I did Wounded Rhymes, but it grew one me with its often haunting atmosphere. (75)
tUnE-yArDs - Good stuff, loaded with fun songs in a distinct sound. (80)
The Black Keys - The touches of Danger Mouse's production are evident in the blues attack. It's a good album, but on a song-for-song basis I don't think it's quite as good as some of their others. (75)
Swans - Felt like a marathon listening to this one, so it was kind of rough doing it twice because I don't really get the appeal. Not bad, but ... (65)

Behemoth – The Satanist (Phenomenal 9)
Royksopp & Robyn - Do It Again (Great 8.5) [I'm not entirely sure if this counts, since it is more in the EP time range, but this was a fantastic listen, "Monument" and "Inside the Idle Hour Club" were thought provoking, and "Sayit" and "Do It Again" were just entertaining and feel-good]
Cloud Nothings - Here and Nowhere Else (Great 8.5)
Fear of Men - Loom (Great 8.5)
Girl Talk & Freeway - Broken Ankles EP (Great 8.25) [This EP is entertaining back-to-front, but "Tolerated" is the sparkling jewel in its crown]
Young Fathers – Dead (Great 8.25)
Wild Beasts - Present Tense (Great 8.25)
Todd Terje – It’s Album Time (Great 8.25)
St. Vincent – St. Vincent (Great-Good 7.75)
War on Drugs – Lost in the Dream (Great-Good 7.75)
Future - Honest (Good 7.25)

Of course, anyone can post here your lists and change them whenever you want

The albums that have received less than four ratings have been excluded from the list.

The weighted average is based on a formulation that includes a) the average of ratings and b) the number of sources have rated the album.

51 - Coldplay - Ghost Stories: 52,6 (4)

I find the opposite, Benji is the most emotionally engaging album of the year, and Nikki Nack is like, if high fructose corn syrup was music.

For Nikki Nack, very good comparaison :D It's exactly that... and it's why I love the album so much. I need this right now.

At this point in the year I'm probably forgetting some albums I've listened to.

Jack White - Another good to great set of songs. I don't rate this very high in the White canon, but that still puts it above most other acts. (80)
Parquet Courts - Some fun, high-energy punk, just like their last album, but no quite so good. (75)
Coldplay - It has its moments of beauty, but it has more moments where it's kinda dull. It grows on you a little with some more exposure, but so does mold. (65)
Mirah - A lot of good albums released by female singer-songwriters this year, and this is no exception. (75)
Sharon Van Etten - See Mirah. (75)
Lana Del Rey - I have to admit the whole sexy chanteuse routine appeals to me. She's also creating a unique individual sound for herself. Auerbach's production probably didn't hurt. I nominated "West Coast" for the songs game and am glad to see it doing well. Unusual for something I nominated. (75)

10. 100s - IVRY EP

Only Timothy Bloom really blew me away. Weak first half of the year - and I loved 2013.

Why are some mainstream artists such dicks about putting their albums on Spotify? The Black Keys - Turn Blue even got taken off Grooveshark. It's like these bands are saying "What, you want to sample this record before you buy it? HA! You blind buy it or you don't get to have it at all!"

I bought both Brothers and El Camino, and I never would have if they weren't up on Spotify for me to sample and decide whether I liked them enough to buy them.

Something tells me it's the labels, not the bands who are to blame.

OK, here are some I liked.

Asgeir-In the Silence
Band of Skulls-Himalayan
Disparition-Granichia
Foster the People-Supermodel
Jack White-Lazaretto
Mastodon-Once More Round the Sun
Sun kil Moon-Benji
Swans-To be Kind

I highly recommend all of them if you haven't heard any.

And August has big upcoming releases from Vance Joy and My Glorious, two great up-and-comers. 2014 has been great so far!

The new FKA Twigs album is streaming on iTunes Radio. Honestly, it might be my album of the year, it's fantastic.

This album has been getting rave reviews, but I really don't get it (for the most part). It has some really interesting ideas going on with its trip hop inspired production, but aside from "Two Weeks" (which is a really great song) there really isn't much I can sink my teeth into. The songs kind of just run together and sound a bit monotonous, leading the 40 minute length of the LP to feel much longer. On the positive side, her vocals are pristine and beautiful, but that won't be enough for this album to rise above a 6.5 or so in my mind.

Any opinions of the new Spoon? Within their top three for me. Hardly a song that I would consider skipping on future listens.

Yes, I enjoyed it quite a bit, a solid and consistent rock album.

Say, are there any news about Azealia Banks? I've been waiting for her first album for quite a while already (actually, ever since 212), but news about her are not often reaching this side of the Atlantic. I guess we can give up on it for this year again?

She released a new song about 2 weeks ago http://pitchfork.com/news/56052-azealia ... eflective/ but less people seems to care after each release... She beefed with half of instragram, left her label, postponed her album again and again.

I see, a rather extreme case of career mismanagement, huh? That's sad, she was a promising artist. Of course, she's young and can still come back, but that's certainly a bad start.

A very good turn.
Jack White - Lazaretto 9 Once again, the king is here. A very "Get behind me satanesque" album, and it's a very good thing. For me, better by a large marging than his first solo album.
Eels - The Cautionary Tales Of Mark Oliver Everett 8,5 Because of the bonus CD, far better than the album. Some of the beautiful songs of the year.
Dorian Pimpernel - Allombon 8,5 Excellent album. Best discovering of the year. A little bit of 60's and MGMT.

Haven't really explored much new music of the last month or so, but three albums that I've been into lately are the new Spoon, La Roux and FKA Twigs (who is deserving of most of the praise she's been getting). Of those three, Spoon's is perhaps my favorite.
