✅ Rolling Stone - No Apologies: All 102 Nirvana Songs Ranked

Post by Blanco »

"In honor of Rolling Stone's Nirvana collector's issue, we've dug deep into the catalog of the chaos-embracing sludge-pop titans who changed the world. We've ranked all 102 album cuts, B-sides, bonus tracks, officially released covers, bootlegger-traded originals, home demos, Peel Sessions, and 4-track experiments we could find, from Nirvana's formation in 1987 to their McCartney-assisted reunion in 2013. It's no secret that the 38 songs on Nirvana's three classic albums blurred the lines between punk's most subterranean muck and pop's highest reaches. But they also left behind a wealth of other material from the shaggy to sublime, from combustible to calm, from coulda-been hits to unfinished sketches. Here it is, from Aero to Zeppelin, and everything in between."

I'm surprised that there are no In Utero songs in the top 10, and then four in a row from 11-14. Also shocked to see "Breed" above "Lithium." Happy to see "Frances Farmer..." in the top 25 - I've always thought that was a severely underrated track.

I don't think I've ever heard "Dive." I guess I'll have to check it out.

Awesome find, Blanco! These artist-specific songs lists that just keep coming out are definitely going to help boost certain artists rankings in the upcoming massive songs update!

BTW, has anyone seen the Rolling Stone Bob Marley songs list?

I'm not sure how this will be included... I mean, I can't imagine they have very much "acclaim" reserved for the ones towards the end...

This list will be included, but it will not necessary boost Nirvana. For a song to move up it needs to be ahead of songs that are already included at AM. And a song like "All Aplogies", that is currently Nirvanas second most acclaimed song at AM and only #13 here, might drop somewhat because of this list. Nothing too dramatic though.

Thanks Blanco!
