Will GTAVI live up to the massive hype?

The truth is, Rockstar has an unparalleled track record when it comes to delivering revolutionary games. While the hype is immense,Geometry Dash Lite history shows that Rockstar thrives under pressure. If GTAVI incorporates innovative gameplay, a gripping narrative, and stunning visuals, it could set a new standard for open-world games.

Commercially I'm pretty sure it will.
Critically we'll see. I'd be very very surprised if it was a bad or even average game, the question is whether it will be good or great.
I wouldn't call GTA V "revolutionary", I don't think it did much that San Andres or Vice City has not introduced before, but it improved on the formula, pretty sure GTA VI will do the same, I don't expect much innovation, but that's an issue for games like Assassin's Creed where you get one game a year, less so for a game whose predecessor was 12 years ago.

So I'm waiting for :
Civilization VII : preordered it given how much I played the VI but it doesn't look very fun or lean for now... hope it suddenly gets clear when I get my hands on it.
Doom The Dark Age : still haven't played a single Doom since the first one but boy does that one look crazy fun
Hades 2 : the early access is great but I have stopped playing and am waiting for the final release not to get overdosed before the game is finished
The Outer Worlds 2 : the followup to "Fallout in Space". The first game was plenty fun but a bit forgettable, I expect the same good times with lack of depth, but still good times.
Fable : the teasers so far had pretty much no gameplay which I hate, but I like this serie so I'll stay optimistic
Heroes of Might and Magic - Golden Era : that and Civ VII might destroy whatever social life I have left
Clair Obscur - Expedition 33 : a relatively small French studio releasing a gorgeous, massive high concept RPG with a stellar vocal cast... this seems too ambitious and is bound to have some kind of big issue we haven't seen so far... but all the early playtests have been very positive so this might end up being a huge out of nowhere homerun
Inkshade : intriguing indie project with a big Inscryption vibe... maybe too much ?
Die in the Dungeon : a deck building turn based roguelike with dice, looks fun
Locator : I tried the demo of this game, a geoguesser game in an alien planet where you have to locate where pictures have been taken. It's good fun so far, in the vein of Obra Dinn or the Golden Idol series, very satisfying when you find good answers.

You can just copy and paste Nassim’s first five entries there for me, I’m especially excited for Doom though which has become one of my favorite series.
I’ve never heard of those other games you mentioned but they look cool! With that said GTA VI really is the one I’m most excited for…RDR2 was one of my all-time favorites and even though it won’t have all the same writers I’m sure it’ll be great.

5 years ago I started a competition. Which would come out first - the next Game of Thrones book (The Winds of Winter), or Hollow Knight Silksong?
The competition is still ongoing.

Re: Videogames of 2025 Discussion Thread
I strongly suspect that Winds of Winter may never come out at this point, GRRM doesn’t seem to have any motivation to continue it. I don’t blame him, those books are amazing but I have to imagine that the prospect of satisfactorily resolving the quagmire of storylines converging at the end of the fifth book is too daunting and it’s not like he can go back and change it now.
So in other words, my vote goes to Silksong!

Amazingly enough, Silksong was announced today for a 2025 release. I haven't played Hollow Knight, but I'm happy for the fans who've had to wait a long, long time for this.
Re: Videogames of 2025 Discussion Thread
Even without today's announcement, Silksong is the favorite for me. There's no indication that Team Cherry are especially slow game developers, and I imagine they are just trying to put more polish into the sequel and it has taken longer than expected. They are a small team after all. While Hollow Knight released much faster it also released in a much rougher state than people will be expecting for Silksong, with updates like Lifeblood and console releases coming after. With the announcement, it still might not come out this year, but it should come out soon™FinnKersey wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:22 pmgarth wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:44 pm 5 years ago I started a competition. The competition is still ongoing.it's still anyone's guess which one will come out first! Do you have a favorite in the race?

As opposed to GRRM who is a serial procrastinator and there is no guarantee he has even written a single page this year. My hope that ASOIAF gets finished rests on GRRM dying and leaving great notes for a faster writer to complete the series. Winds of Winter isn't even meant to be the last book...

Haha, the eternal standoff between The Winds of Winter and Hollow Knight: Silksong—truly a tale of legends, delays, and dashed hopes! You're definitely not alone in picking Silksong as the likely winner here. Team Cherry may be taking their sweet time, but at least there’s a sense of progress, whereas GRRM's updates feel like Schrödinger’s manuscript—both written and unwritten until proven otherwise.garth wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 11:40 pmEven without today's announcement, Silksong is the favorite for me. That said, if Silksong drops and Winds doesn't, maybe we need to start a new competition: Which will come first—The Dream of Spring or Silksong DLC?
Who knows—maybe both will shadow drop on the same day just to mess with us.
