1- "Street Fighting Man" - The Rolling Stones (Solid cut of the album)
2- "Under Pressure" - Queen (Bowie really adds a great dimension to this song)
3- "Downtown Train" - Tom Waits (Easily my favorite song from him)
4- "Jumpin' Jack Flash" - The Rolling Stones (2 great Stones songs so far)
5- "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" - Led Zeppelin (Not a great song)
6- "I Love Rock N Roll" - Joan Jett (I don't like it as much as I used to, but still good)
7- "Sunday Morning" - Velvet Underground (A good song, but there's ones on the album)
8- "The Tourist" - Radiohead (The closer of "Ok Computer"...)
9- "Release" - Pearl Jam (The {overlong} closer of "Ten"...)
10- "Andmoreagain" - Love (A nice song, but it goes better with the surrounding songs on the album)

So here's my thoughts. Feel free to tell me if this is silly...

What if...
I run "Random Rules" near the beginning of each month. After 10 completely random entries (or a full week, whichever comes first), I run a poll to pick 10 songs for the "Random Rules Playlist" that will kick off on Spotify.

I could pit all the #1's against each other, then all the #2's, etc., and everyone would have a chance to vote for each - not necessarily their favorite, but the one they think should be added to the playlist.

Each month up to 10 new songs would be added, provided they are available on Spotify.

For example, the above lists would yield the following songs in the #1 spot:
-Beulah - Gravity's Bringing Us Down
-Opportunity - Elvis Costello and the Attractions
-Rainmaker - Harry Nilsson
-Derek and The Dominos- Key to the Highway
-Lily Allen - The Fear
-Balthazar - Blood Like Wine
-The Band - Whispering Pines
-"Street Fighting Man" - The Rolling Stones
-Coldplay - "X & Y"
-My Bloody Valentine - Touched

(I would vote for "Street Fighting Man" in this case).

After votes are tallied (say every 2 days), the winner would be named and added to the "Random Rules Playlist" for posterity. Obviously, the playlist would be made available publicly. Then we would proceed with the next song group (spot #2, then 3, etc.).

Thoughts? Suggestions? I don't believe hearing every song would be a requirement for picking one... I'm trying to make this fairly simple.

I like the idea! It would be a good way to be (hopefully) introduced to some new songs without being too time-consuming. It also solves the problem of everyone feeling obligated to vote for their own picks; for example, there's a very little chance I would find my #1 random song this week to be worthy of my vote.

Decent song, it's kinda cheesy, but not to the point where it's unlistenable.

Another great song.

One of the many great songs from his debut.

So I have another Random Rules idea.

Here's what I'd like to do:
- Starting July 1st, gather up to 10 random lists (per Random Rules rules, above) in a thread like this one.
- Once we have 100 songs (10 songs each from 10 participants), compile the list, then start eliminating the songs.
- Continue eliminating one song per day per person until we have 10 songs left - one from each submitted list. In other words, once 9 of my 10 random songs are eliminated, my last song will reach the end.

The goal here is to create a "Random" song list of 10 songs - one from each contributer's list - that I can launch on Spotify or elsewhere as a measure of what we, as AM-ers, listen to and like. If it works we can continue in August and so on.

I think the random piece is pretty popular, and I've seen great success in the recent elimination tournaments, so I figured why not combine the two.

Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions, please!

Sounds good to me. In fact, it sounds so good, that I think that 10 participants are very few. It's the only "but" that I find. Although who knows, maybe i'm wrong.
