Rank the Tracks, The Sequel, Nomination Thread

Post by Holden »

Hello all! I have decided to start a Rank the Tracks Part 2! It will be completely independent of the original Rank the Tracks, and will follow (slightly) different rules!
It will also be a 24/7 poll, I will update the results thread as often as possible, which will be pretty often (I have a lot of free time right now, hence the numerous games I'm running). Please add your track rankings directly into the thread for each album, even if more album threads have been added since!
So here is now albums will be decided: you will nominate albums in this thread, and only this thread. Simply state the album whose tracks you would like to see ranked, and I will add it into a pool, and draw one every Friday, and start a new thread for that album! Nominate as many albums as you like, and the nominations stay in the pool until they are selected. Additionally, multiple nominations for an album (from different users) will result in a higher chance of that album being selected. Feel free to select any album (even ones already ranked).
Also, as an added portion, please provide a rating of the album as a whole if you'd like (on the individual album's thread), on whatever scale you choose, whether it be a letter grade, or 1-10, etc. This will be also be used to create a ranking of all of the albums we've done so far!
Have fun nominating! I can't wait to see what happens! The first album will be posted next Friday, or January 10th!

LH seconded! Great album and although the consensus #1 can easily be predicted (Doo Wop), there's plenty of contenders for runner-up.

Neil Young - Harvest? Surprised not to see any of his in the original batch, it has a couple of hits as well for those who don't know the album well.

I'd say maybe one that more or less everyone has heard recently, so it's fresh in their memory and will hopefully boost involvement...not my favourite of the year but NFR!?

Might be worth mentioning this on the Rank the Tracks 24/7 thread, Holden, particularly for those using the mobile site. I only noticed it by seeing Topics having risen to 104.

Hello! We’re getting close to Friday and I’ve come to a realization-someone who posts many many albums has a very good chance of theirs being selected over someone else’s. Therefore, my methodology will be to randomly select a forum user from those who have submitted nominations, and from there randomly select one of their nominations to give everyone a fairer shot

With respect, that's not borne out by the evidence below- Bootsy's list of suggestions is one of the smaller examples but has still managed to get support from other forumers for two albums, for instance.

Two other albums--Discovery and Hounds of Love--have had the most votes, there are worse ideas than starting with them if we want maximum participation. Content with whatever you decide though :)

You know I will make it voting related and then I will go random should it be a tie. Thank you for your input mileswide!

Not sure I like this idea. Especially because someone who posts many many albums having a greater chance.

Of course you could simply follow the result of the last big album poll, or the AM list.

I’m thinking about it, I think I might do Fridays as nominated albums, and Tuesdays as the albums following the last big poll (including albums already done in the original rank the tracks)

I was thinking that sort of as a bonus we’d revisit those on Tuesdays and have the standard ones on Fridays

Alright, so, I've decided:
1. Redoing old albums is a bust
2. I'm going to add in a new album once the previous thread reaches 10 submissions!
If anyone has any commentary, let me know!

I don't think you should do this. Just add in a new album a week after the previous album. From my memory some of the albums ranked during the first round didn't even get past 5 submissions until a long time after the thread had been posted.

Alright, that makes sense. I'll get the next one in on Friday (looks like it might be either Hounds of Love or The Downward Spiral, if you wanna get a headstart). It was finals this week, so I haven't had as much time.

Just my two cents:

I ranked a few of the original threads but never got time to go through them all. I think it'd be great to bring them back in a new form for re-rankings and reposting old rankings (as well as letting people like me post their rankings) unless you just don't want to manage them all, in which case fair enough. Not sure that low traffic matters that much for that project since most people see their rankings as done and you could just take data from the previous thread.

One thing that does seem to be an imminent issue is what is happening at the moment - new rankings in the old threads are hiding the sequel threads. You might want to consider getting these pinned to the top so they don't get hidden, or locking the old threads if no-one is doing anything with the results.
