Recent Purchases

Post by Mattceinicram »

Hey guys, this is a thread that was part of a couple different forums I use to be a part of. I thought it was pretty fun and would also be fun here! Basically show off you recent music based purchases!

I'll do mine for an example:

So this week at a local disk replay I scored

Franz Ferdinand-Franz Ferdinand (special edition with bonus tracks) (2004)
Buena Vista Social Club- Buena Vista Social Club (1997)
R.E.M.- Document (1987)
The Police- Outlandos D'Amour (1978)
Beck-Odelay (1996)

On Amazon

Ray Charles- Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music (1962)
Oasis- (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995)
Bob Marley & The Wailers- Legend (1984)

I also recently bought a Vox Valvetronix VT40+ guitar amp and a Taylor 210!

Purrr...chuss? What's that?

My most recent purchase is Ten Freedom Summers by Wadada Leo Smith. I tend to only actually buy top 20 of the year level albums anymore. I suppose I should buy Ekstasis and Ondatropica.

Just ordered Wish You Were Here and Marquee Moon. Due to my small budget I limit myself to albums below 5 euros, but for some reason Wish You Were Here is always at least 8-10 pounds on amazon.co.uk. It dipped to 7.50 last week and I caved; I just had to have it.

Yeah I usually only find deals on used CD's on Amazon as well. However Wish You Were Here is great!, not my favorite Floyd album but worth the purchase. I still need to listen to Marquee Moon :angry-banghead:

I just bought a vinyl copy of Scott Walker's Scott 3 -- some of the most beautiful string arrangements on a pop record ever; Big Louise will always be a favorite of mine. I'm also expecting a copy of Television's Marquee Moon and Tinderstick's second self-titled record.

The short time I've been on this board, has taught me that I really need to go listen to that album ASAP

You should really do it! :D

Note: When I first read your response I thought you were saying that you would go listen to the new A$AP Rocky record :D I'm such a fool!

I'm in the process of getting a small vinyl collection together. My most recent purchase was a 1st press Joni Mitchell "Blue" - my favourite record! Got some other Joni albums as well - the heavily underrated "For the Roses", "Court and Spark", "Hissings of Summer Lawns". Going to get "Hejira" when I can.

Been catching up on all the 2012 listening I somehow missed last year. I recently picked up Psychedelic Pill and Visions, both of which I like a lot, and Lonerism, which has yet to win me over.

Well I was going to purchase a Spotify account so I didn't have to purchase anything else for a month but the App won't accept my ITunes card. This is what I get for trying to be a good boy and giving up those EVIL torrent sites :( I guess the Best of The Catherine Wheel will be my next purchase even though the compilation cd is yet to exist:(

John Mark Nelson's Waiting and Waiting which btw scored ridiculously low in the Underrated Albums of 2013. Finally a male songwriter I can actually get behind and nobody else appreciates his genius. It's like Robbie Williams all over again;)

The new Everything Everything and a couple of Postmarks recordings, the Postmarks self titled LP and their second album after that one. Also the SINGLE to the Stone Roses' Elephant Stone. I actually did not know the song isn't officially included in the UK album so if I were in the UK Stone Roses' s/t would likely drop dramatically in my ranking being that it's one of my all time faves and this extended Single version has some real high points. Speaking of two different versions, I also downloaded the ORIGINAL version of Saint Etiennes Kiss and Make Up and both versions are equally as charming and precious making them BOTH my favorite Saint Etienne song(s).

Just added John Coltrane's A Love Supreme to my vinyl collection and I sure am enjoying this current jazz phase I've been going through. :music-guitarred: (we should add a jazz-ish emoticon haha)

Now all i have to do is wait for the mail post to deliver three of Miles' LPs (Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain and my favorite, Bitches Brew) along with Charles Mingus' Mingus Ah Um. In the near future, I hope I can not only complete my collection of those three jazz legends records that i find enjoyable, but also acquire a couple of Sinatra's, Pharoah Sanders' Karma and Joni Mitchell's Hejira - along with others from her golden decade! But these last ones on my wishlist are closer to a smog of ether than any concrete purchase! :D

Tortoise - Tortoise
Flying Lotus - L.A.
Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel...

The first two are Japanese versions of albums that I've been searching to get on the cheap for a while - uselessly awesome obi strips 'n' all. The last one is a present for a friend who loves Regina Spektor but when asked what she thought of Fiona Apple said she hadn't heard anything by her... *sighs*

Guess I'll give that Julia Holter a try. She's not from Brooklyn or England so she can't be THAT bad. But if it sounds anything like YS part 2 I'm shaking my fists at you guys. Hate to admit this and this is coming from a guy who LOVED female artists, but lately it's been mostly strike outs when it comes to females in music as of late. Britain has gotten so stale and predictable although I'm definitely looking forward to finally listening to the new Savages, not a trace of soul or anything that sounds remotely like Dusty or Kate. It's about time grrls finally rock again.
