The thread is free for everyone... but I'm warning you, I try to put as much style as possible and I have put several songs that I totally hate. There are horrors... but you have to show the variety. :D

Anyway, you do what you want to do ;-)

I see you speak a little French, do you understand the lyrics of the songs?

Ben, le malheur des uns fait le bonheur des autres, comme on dit ! There's some stuff I'm sure I'll love that you can't stand-- I know that you aren't particularly into rap, for example. At the same time, I'm less likely to understand rap than any other genre in the language as it's so packed with slang, which wasn't covered in my French classes. I can help with proofreading of any translations if need be though (I mean, I could start with translating Bamako's lyrics)

Je pense plutôt qu'il fait "le bonheur des autres"... héhéhé !

Rap is not the badest :-) I think more about some bad 80's hit, already horrible for the time but which are still very popular at weddings or popular celebrations... and that everyone knows in France.

And for translations, there are still some missing. I don't want to force you into anything. Only do it if you really want to. Otherwise, as soon as I can, I go through LyricsTranslate. :)

He has worked alongside artists as varied as The Weeknd, Miss Kittin, Daft Punk, A$AP Rocky, Phoenix, Kanye West, Jean-Michel Jarre and Pharrell Williams.

Mike Lévy was born in Lyon (France) June 1987. He started producing music at the age of sixteen when he first played an analog synthesizer. He released his first EP in 2008 through the label OD Records.

In July 2012, Gesaffelstein made the cover of DJ Mag with Brodinski. The same year, his track "Viol" is used by Citroën and Givenchy advertisings .

He co-produced two tracks on Yeezus, the sixth album of American rapper Kanye West, including the lead single "Black Skinhead" and "Send It Up", both tracks produced with Kanye West, Daft Punk, Brodinski and Mike Dean. On October 28, 2013, Gesaffelstein released his debut album Aleph under OWSLA, Bromance Records, Parlophone Records and EMI Music, which had been recorded since 2011. His remix of "Shockwave" by The Hacker is featured in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V, on the Soulwax FM radio station.
In 2015, Gesaffelstein released the single "Conquistador" in collaboration with Jean-Michel Jarre and also produced the soundtrack for the 2015 film Maryland. In early 2018, he produced the tracks "I Was Never There" and "Hurt You" from The Weeknd's My Dear Melancholy, EP.

Gesaffelstein signed to Columbia Records in November 2018, with whom he released the lead single "Reset" from his second studio album Hyperion in the same month. In January 2019, he released a collaboration with The Weeknd titled "Lost in the Fire" as the second single from Hyperion,and later in March 2019 released another collaboration with Pharrell Williams titled "Blast Off" His second studio album was then released on 8 March 2019. On 3 October 2019, Gesaffelstein announced his surprise EP NOVO Sonic System, which was released the following day.


Musical style
Mixmag describes Gesaffelstein's style as being a "dark and threatening techno, though enchanting"; The Inrocks see it as "black, ultra-violent music, [which] revives the techno fundamentals, the intransigence of Underground Resistance , the mental and obsessive structures of Drexciya , the contemporary power and more" . *Tucker Telephone did have a link attached to it but it was only Wikipedia, which of course isn't hard to find--I wasn't aware what a Tucker Telephone was but as you may all be able to infer from its pairing with the guillotine, it's a torture device.

It was made out of a crank phone wired to cell batteries designed to administer electric shocks. It, like napalm, was only used on a wide scale during the Vietnam War but there were reports of state prisons in the U. S. attaching it to prisoners' body parts, including prisoners, as late as 1974- what is wrong with people?

In early 2003 Croze launched a writing partnership with Edith Fambeuena and Anne Claverie, who previously teamed in the Etienne Daho-sponsored group Les Valentins. By year's end she scored slots at festivals including Les Transmusicales and landed the track "Larmes" on a compilation CD available with the influential French music journal Les Inrockuptibles. After spending the first half of 2004 on tour in support of acts including Miossec and Lhasa, Croze signed to the Wagram label on her 25th birthday, releasing her Frambeuena-produced eponymous debut LP in early 2005. The album was a critical and commercial success, earning the singer Victoires de la Musique Award nominations in the Breakthrough Act and Album of the Year categories.
This was followed in 2007 by her second record, Un Bruit Qui Court, which saw Croze experiment with electro-pop sounds alongside her acoustic folk musings. Her third album, Le Prix de L’Eden, was released in 2012.

Mano Solo (24 April 1963 – 10 January 2010), born Emmanuel Cabut, was a French singer. He was born in Châlons-sur-Marne on 24 April 1963 to the illustrator Cabu and Isabelle Monin, co-founder of the ecology-related magazine, La Gueule ouverte.

From the age of 17, Mano Solo played guitar in a punk rock group, les Chihuahuas. He began singing his own compositions in the early nineties. He then sang regularly at the Tourtour theatre in Paris, alongside singers Marousse and P'tit Louis.

His first album, La Marmaille Nue, was released in 1993 and sold 100,000 copies in the first year. His second album, Les Années Sombres ("The Dark Years"), a somber album that also went gold in its first months was released in 1995. In 1996, he regrouped with part of the Chihuahuas for the album Frères Misère (Brothers in Misery). Its rhythms are closer to punk, and the texts are more topical than his solo albums. With little media attention, the album failed to meet immediate success.

The release of a new album: Je sais pas trop ("I don't really know") was in 1997. Recorded live and featuring, once again, original melodies and sounds, it was a Gold record in France. Two years later, Mano Solo recorded the double album Internationale Shalala, live at the Tourtour, a little theatre where he played regularly since the beginning of his music career. He sings and plays guitar on the album, accompanied only by another guitarist, Jean-Louis Solans. Canteloube was born in Annonay, Ardèche, into a family with deep roots in the Auvergne region of France. He studied piano from the age of six with Amélie Doetzer, a friend of Frédéric Chopin. After earning his baccalauréat, he worked at a bank in Bordeaux. He returned to his family home in Malaret (Annonay) upon his father's death in 1896, remaining there until his mother's death in 1899 and then beyond as sole owner of the estate. After a period of silence and mourning, in 1901 Canteloube married Charlotte Marthe Calaret, who gave birth to twins Pierre and Guy in 1903.

He began studying with Vincent d'Indy via correspondence in 1901, reluctant to leave Malaret. Upon d'Indy's constant urging, he finally entered the Schola Cantorum in 1907 in Paris, where he remained until the beginning of World War I in 1914. At the Schola, Canteloube became close friends with fellow composer and student Déodat de Séverac.

In 1907, he wrote a suite in four movements for piano and violin entitled Dans la montagne, which was played at the Société Nationale. Other significant works followed, including Colloque sentimental for voice and string quartet (1908); Eglogue d'Automne for orchestra (1910); Vers la Princesse lointaine, a symphonic poem (1912); Aù printemps for voice and orchestra; and L'Arada (The Earth), a song cycle of six mélodies (1922).

Canteloube composed his first opera, Le mas ("The Farmstead" in Occitan language), to his own libretto from 1910 to 1925 (its composition delayed during the war years). The three-act work won the Prix Heugel in 1925, and was awarded the prize of 100,000 francs. However, the reaction to this composition by the leaders of the Opéra-Comique in Paris was far less enthusiastic than the jury. After pressure from the publisher, it finally premiered on 3 April 1929, but it was never revived. His second opera, Vercingétorix, in four acts, was inspired by a libretto by Étienne Clémentel, mayor of Riom (Puy-de-Dôme) and Hervé Louwyck on the Gauls' defeat by Julius Caesar. The Paris Opéra gave the first performance on 22 June 1933, but it was accused of lacking theatricality.

In 1925, Canteloube founded a group called La Bourrée with several young Auvergnats in Paris who were eager to publicize the folklore and the beauty of their home region. Canteloube himself believed that "peasant songs often rise to the level of purest art in terms of feeling and expression, if not in form" (les chants paysans s’élèvent bien souvent au niveau de l'art le plus pur, par le sentiment et l'expression, sinon par la forme). He participated in numerous radio broadcasts of French folklore with his "Songs of France" with the tenor Christian Selva. The radio was an ideal vehicle for disseminating regional popular music.

Alongside his career as a composer, Canteloube worked as a musicologist, collecting traditional French folksongs, which were published by Didier and Heugel. He also wrote biographies of Vincent d'Indy (1949) and of his friend Déodat de Séverac (1950).

Canteloube took more than thirty years (1924 to 1955) to complete the compilation of his most admired and famous collection of songs, Chants d'Auvergne. Le Cœur - Bye-Bye City - 1969

Son of a doctor, Pierre Groscolas arrived in Toulouse in 1962 where he did his secondary studies.

A Parisian group, VOX DEI is initiated by two childhood friends Jacques Bucchi (Guitar) and Guy Brochard (Bass), and for the group's needs, Guy solicits his elder brother Luigi to play the drums. Both were reedited in 2016 in a double CD offered through his site. On 27 October 2014, he released his debut EP NQNT (Ni Queue Ni Tête) with the clip "Bonjour" gaining fame. The follow-up was the EP NQNT 2 on 25 September 2015. On 20 January 2017, he released his studio album Agartha on Mezoued Records & Suther Kane Films, and on Millenium, Capitol, Universal. It was certified platinum. A leak of materials resulted in the EP project NQNT 3. And on 2 February 2018, Vald presented his second album XEU with a number of collaborations with rappers Sirius, Suik'on Blaz AD and Sofiane. It was also certified platinum. This was soon followed by the mixtape NQNT33 in September 2018.

Vald has a son Charles, born 2014 from an earlier relationship.

Alain Barrière (born Alain Bellec; 18 November 1935 – 18 December 2019) was a Breton-French singer, who was active from the 1950s until his death and was known for participating in the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest.

After growing up in a small town on the coast of Brittany, in 1955 Barrière enrolled in the École nationale supérieure d'arts et métiers in Angers. As a student he bought a guitar and started to write songs. After graduating in engineering in 1960, he moved to Paris to take up employment, and started to perform in the evenings at small clubs around the capital. He won a song contest in 1961 with the self-penned song "Cathy"; his style was chanson-based with no concession to the burgeoning yé-yé scene, but nonetheless he was soon signed to a recording contract and started to release singles regularly, enabling him to give up his job and make at least a modest living from music.

In 1963, Barrière's song "Elle était si jolie" ("She Was So Pretty") was chosen as the French representative in the eighth Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 23 March in London. "Elle était si jolie" finished fifth of 16 entries.
"Elle était si jolie" turned out to be by far the biggest seller of Barrière's career to that point. He released his first album, Ma vie, in 1964 and the title-track became a huge hit. In 1965 he was offered, and accepted, a leading role in a heist thriller, Pas de panique, alongside Pierre Brasseur. This would be his only venture into acting, but his singing career reached its peak in the latter part of the decade with a string of hits making him one of France's biggest stars and a sell-out live attraction.

Barrière had gained a reputation for being uncompromising and at times difficult to work with. In the early 1970s he left his record company to set up his own label. He kept his fanbase, which ensured his records and concerts continued to provide a good living, despite his being overlooked by sections of the French broadcast media. "Tu t'en vas", a 1975 duet with fellow Eurovision veteran Noëlle Cordier, topped the French chart, and was the third biggest-selling single of the year in Switzerland.

Barrière married in 1975, and he and his wife opened a nightclub-restaurant in a converted castle in Brittany. Although it proved a successful and popular venue, Barrière soon found himself facing severe tax problems as a result of dubious advice. In 1977 he took his family to the United States, where they remained for four years.

After returning to France, Barrière made several comeback attempts, to little avail. After another period spent overseas, this time in Quebec, the family were back in Brittany when Barrière's career was unexpectedly rejuvenated by the 1997 release of a CD containing remastered versions of his old hits, which proved to be a money-spinner. Shortly afterwards, Barrière released an album of new material, which also sold well.

He published an autobiography in 2006 and continues to release both retrospective and newly recorded albums.

Barrière died of cardiac arrest on 18 December 2019 at the age of 84.
