Finally a list I can agree with. I firmly stand by the not very popular opinion that Kanye West's first four albums were is best and far superior to anything he published in the 2010s.

Gonna have to echo what I said about this list on RYM:

This list is awful. No TPAB? MBDTF? Channel Orange? You have to be kidding me. But Charli XCX and Young Thug's mixtapes get included. Like bruh.

What's your RYM account? Mine is WeWereInLove, by the way.

Yeah, Gorilla Vs Bear always seemed like a source that doesn't like to follow the "mainstream" critical trends (I think it's only run by 2 people, so the idiosyncrasies stick out a lot) and whenever that happens, there's always the risk of appearing to be contrarian for contrarianism's sake. No way I'm arguing against the #1 pick, though.

My RYM is Cold_Butterfly. And yeah I was wondering the same when checking through this list, because it came off to me as a more indie-oriented publication, or something like that. And I absolutely love Grimes also, so I can understand why'd they choose that as their #1.

From a critical standpoint, this is definitely way too early to be making a best-of-decade list, because not only is there still time for great stuff to come out, but recent albums need more time to sit with you to determine what's really the cream of the crop.

But as a list addict, I'll be totally eating this shit up.

Is GvB even eligible for inclusion on AM? I seem to recall them being non-eligible, but I'm not sure.

Decent list overall, but I agree that the lack of Kanye is egregious. Interesting that they included GKMC but no TPAB (I actually like GKMC more, but it seems like TPAB is the consensus pick for best Kendrick album).

Love Grimes and think Oblivion is one of the five best tracks of the decade, but Visions as the best album? Bold choice to say the least.

This list looks like something more based on personal bias than choosing the 50 most significant and influential albums of the decade, which is... fine, I guess, but not my favorite type of list.

Anyway, Im very curious to find out which underdog album will be reevaluated by these decade end lists, like Daft Punk’s Discovery was. Putting my money on Born to Die by Lana.

TPAB and Channel Orange are missing because - as it states clearly at the top of the article - they limited themselves to one album per artist. Kendrick and Frank are represented here by GK,MC and Blonde. Seems unfair to penalize artists who had multiple great albums during the decade this way, but at least there is a reason for those albums' omission.

I fear that the absence of MBDTF is due to a factor that might be reflected in other EOD lists as well: a desire to punish Kanye for his current championing of You-Know-Who. I think he's horribly misguided, but taking it out on his music would be pretty misguided, too.

Ohhh I got that. I agree with Blonde over CO any day for me, and although I fucking love GKMC, TPAB is my favorite album of all-time, so it’s disappointing that they chose the former.

On Kanye, I was thinking the same thing a while back, that his championing of today’s most prominent fascist would hurt him in the EOD lists, due to how politicized music criticism has become in recent years (and rightly so). I still think MBDTF is an excellent piece of art, and it’s unfair to punish someone’s work due to a political belief, however wrong that belief might be. As someone who absolutely despises Trump, i still don’t think West’s work should be critically disintegrated because of his support for him.

MBDTF wasn't an their 2010 EOY list either, so if Kanye's being punished for anything, it's probably something that went on long before he went crazy for 45. Or, more likely, these guys just don't like the album that much.

Normally two writers aren’t enough, but GvB have an outstanding number of visitors, so I decided to make an exception for them a couple of years ago. I quite like the list, btw. There will be far too many usual suspects lists down the road anyway...

They should 100% be included - this list is excellent and will probably be one of the EOD lists I appreciate most, even if it is too early (and too short). What I love about it is it's a truly modern list -- all of these albums could have only come out in the 2010s -- and it makes an excellent effort to include many of the decade's most interesting and unique movements in (mostly underground) music.

Also, can we stop the complaining every time Kanye, Kendrick, or Channel Orange doesn't top a list? For those who think those albums were the cream of the 2010s, I guarantee you there will be hundreds of lists that validate that opinion. Other people can think a different set of albums are great, and that's OK. Almost every album I've heard from this list is excellent, or at least an interesting listen, and I look forward to trying out some of the ones I haven't heard before (Helena Deland, Tops, Cindy Lee).

Ehh, in all fairness i'm not a fan of a lot of the albums on this list, but you have a valid point.

Interesting that they went for the instrumental version of "I'm God" instead of Lil B's rap version. Not that I'm complaining, it's one hell of an instrumental.

Love these selections, many of which won't get much love elsewhere. Money Trees is an awesome pick for the best Kendrick song of the decade that I almost agree with (I'd put it behind only The Blacker the Berry). Sophie's Bipp, Charli XCX's Track 10, and Jessy Lanza's It Means I Love You have been climbing up my own EOD list recently.

Also, Oblivion makes much more sense as the SOTD pick than Visions does as the AOTD pick.

I completely forgot about Autre Ne Veut and the his very good album Anxiety! "Play By Play" is a top-notch R&B tune.
