Don't sit back on this one for too long:
To make sure your voice is represented, please get us your votes by Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Check back for the results on the site in the coming weeks.
I didn't even try to submit an albums list. I've been listening to our main page's top 10, but I doubt I'll submit a formal list for this forum, either. The number of 2010s albums I've listened to seriously or casually might be in the 20s. My favorites include the Bowie albums, Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour, Swans - The Seer, Kanye West - MBDTF, and Bob Dylan - Tempest. Kendrick Lamar's Damn has been sounding good, too.

Songs:
1 | Grimes | REALiTI | 2015
2 | Lana Del Rey | Video Games | 2011
3 | Adele | Set Fire to the Rain | 2011
4 | Tove Lo | Habits (Stay High) | 2013
5 | Grimes | Oblivion | 2012
6 | Julia Holter | Feel You | 2015
7 | Rihanna feat. Mikky Ekko | Stay | 2012
8 | Frank Ocean | Pyramids | 2012
9 | Radiohead | Lotus Flower | 2011
10 | Bob Dylan | Roll on John | 2012

#2 : Kanye West: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
#3 : Kendrick Lamar: good kid, m.A.A.d city
#4 : Beyoncé: Lemonade
#5 : Frank Ocean: Blonde
#6 : St. Vincent: St. Vincent
#7 : Kendrick Lamar: untitled unmastered.
#8 : Drake: Take Care
#9 : Janelle Monáe: Dirty Computer
#10 : Mitski: Be the Cowboy

Songs:
#1 : KALLITECHNIS: "Come Up"
#2 : Kanye West: "Runaway" [ft. Pusha-T]
#3 : Kendrick Lamar: "Alright"
#4 : Drake: "Hotline Bling"
#5 : Childish Gambino: "This Is America"
#6 : Tame Impala: "Let It Happen"
#7 : Daft Punk: "Get Lucky" [ft. Pharrell]
#8 : Kendrick Lamar: "A.D.H.D."

Albums -

#1 Mbongwana Star: From Kinshasa [2015]
#2 Tom Waits: Bad As Me [2011]
#3 First Aid Kit: The Lion's Roar [2012]
#4 Sons of Kemet: Your Queen Is a Reptile [2018]
#5 Bonobo: Black Sands [2010]
#6 Parquet Courts: Wide Awaaaaake! [2018]
#7 Tame Impala: Currents [2015]
#8 Better Oblivion Community Center: Better Oblivion Community Center [2019]
#9 Kate Tempest: Everybody Down [2014]
#10 Laura Marling: I Speak Because I Can [2010]

Songs -

#1 Kate Tempest: Marshall Law [2014]
#2 Loyle Carner: The Isle of Arran [2017]
#3 Jay-Z/Kanye West: Niggas in Paris [2011]
#4 Clubroot: Comedown [2010]
#5 Little Simz feat. Syd: Shotgun [2016]
#6 Kendrick Lamar: King Kunta [2015]
#7 Peggy Gou: It Makes You Forget (Itgehane) [2018]
#8 Dave: Two Birds, No Stones [2016]
#9 Songhoy Blues: Bamako [2017]
#10 Janelle Monáe feat. Erykah Badu: Q.U.E.E.N. [2013]

My top 9 has pretty much been static since last year but it's almost close enough to be a 3-way-tie for 2013 with fractions between Q.U.E.E.N., Royals and Black Skinhead, then bury a friend and Inhaler by Foals not being far behind.

Not fully settled on my 10 albums either. Speaking of which, BOCC is listed as 2019's representative but on the Albums of 2019 thread, my #1 is GREY AREA. Simple answer is I've listened to Better Oblivion.. since I last contributed to that thread and prefer it marginally to Little Simz's album.

Yes, I submitted the top 10 songs

I submitted the top 10 songs because I thought it would be possible to submit the top 10 albums by the deadline separately.
But this damn site registered my IP and I couldn't send the album list...

It would look something like this, not sure

1 Frank Ocean - Channel Orange 2012
2 Mac DeMarco - 2 2012
3 Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy 2010
4 Rosalia - El mal querer 2018
5 Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica 2011
6 Beyoncé - Beyoncé 2013
7 Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today 2010
8 Destroyer - Kaputt 2011
9 Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence 2014
10 Solange - A Seat at the Table 2016

Unlucky Mac DeMarco I think few people would put this dubious masterpiece in their top 10

I haven't heard so many albums in this decade

That's a pain, the predictive entries weren't the most intuitive either. Only Paris, Kunta, Itgehane, QUEEN and Wide Awake populated for me. I would have thought it'd generate for any with at least a vote but it didn't work with Better Oblivion and of course acroamor went for that one. Still, quality lists all round from everyone!

I was particularly disappointed (and surprised) that "Movies" and "Seventeen" didn't come up in the songs auto-fill. Have some guts on the 2019 releases, P-Fork!

It would be interesting to know what are the top write-in albums and songs as they published on the People's List in 2012. Now, most of those albums have a review on the website.

Anyone wanna guess who’ll top the polls? I’m assuming MBDTF is gonna top the albums list, considering that Kanye has always been an idol to Pitchfork’s readership.

Late in answering but I'd expect your favourite, TPAB, to clean up. As well as being a good abum, it's number 2 on AM behind MBDTF, seems more 'culturally significant' and Kanye would probably be too politically polarising these days to place first on some people's lists. That last factor shouldn't matter in most cases but I can see that making the difference.

I'm not sure about the reader's list, but TPAB will absolutely beat out MBDTF on Pitchfork's own list for the reasons you described. I expect TPAB to come in at #1 on the official list, with MBDTF at #2 or #3.

My comment was referring to the readers poll, which I expect will feature Kanye at the top simply because his fanbase on the Internet is everywhere ;). I can agree that for Pitchfork critics’ decade-end list, TPAB will definitely come at #1. It’s a zeitgeist-defining album which appeals to a site like Pitchfork, and rightly so. Plus it has so many things going for it right now. I also can’t imagine any other album topping their critics’ list, in all honesty.

I clearly don't live on the same planet as them! But it reflects quite well the year-end lists of this decade on AM.
Overall, 70% of this ranking is composed of songs that I don't know by a majority of artists that I don't know well, but that's what I've been seeing all these last few years here.

Counterpoint: with the exception of the top 6 albums being from just 3 artists (which is funny for all the wrong reasons), these lists are perfectly reasonable and much better than Pitchfork’s own lists.

For those who may complain that the lists are too predictable, what did you expect? It’s an average of the opinions of Pitchfork’s readership, meaning that there aren’t going to be any crazy wacky surprises almost by definition.

As they say, "I expected nothing, and I'm still disappointed". This is not the right question. The right questions are, why is Pitchfork's readership so predictable, and is it a good thing? My answer to the second question is no, while I'm not sure I want to know the answer to the first one.

To elaborate, I'd like to know to what extent people are following Pitchfork's recommendations because they're in line with their own tastes in the first place, or if they're following them for some wrong reasons that I'm too bored to list.

Also, you mentioned "reasonable" in your message. I think that's the heart of the problem.

I do see what you mean, and I think it's the ultimate "chicken and egg" type problem that's inherent to the relationship between criticism and the populace at large. Do people who read Pitchfork (or Rolling Stone or NME or etc.) have the same taste as Pitchfork because Pitchfork is influencing their taste? Or was their taste developed first and they naturally gravitate towards Pitchfork because it covers the sort of music they like? Realistically, it's probably a bit of both, but I couldn't tell you if it was a 50/50 split or a 70/30 split or etc. Again, I don't think it's a problem inherent to Pitchfork, I think if you did this with basically any magazine or website that did music criticism you'd see a similar outcome. You definitely see a similar phenomenon on AM for one.

Saw your answer, Nick, but I started typing this block of text before, so I figured I'd just finish ;) Besides, it's my answer anyway.

I'm not sure how liking or at least evaluating music needs to be "reasonable". Fun and society-induced "guilty pleasures" records exist, and I'm not always sure either that their status is deserved, or just the product of a restrictive definition of what is acclaim-worthy.

"What did you expect?" Certainly nothing. But dang, surprise me. There's 2010s stuff out there that Pitch4k don't cover.

Pitchfork told us that Autechre are still pumping out increasingly mammoth-sized records in the 2010s? Yeah, cool. I didn't learn in Pitchfork that free jazz sax player extraordinaire Anthony Braxton is still alive and well and doing the same. I learned it elsewhere.

Pitchfork told us that New York chef Action Bronson actually did some interesting mixtapes. Nice job guys. Didn't tell me that some crazy Californian kid has been pumping out weird industrial trap mixtapes by the dozens in the last decade. I learned it elsewhere.

Pitchfork ain't fans of the soundtrack to cult movie Scott Pilgrim. Did they try the more well-received (in its milieu) soundtrack to the Scott Pilgrim video game?

No, even more obscure, give me a Kickstarter-funded soundtrack to a long-forgotten early-1990s video game series. Because why not?

Did you know that, aside from the Sunset Strip's own self-parody house band, glam metal is alive and well in the 2010s? And that even its sleaze-light twin brother AOR pumps out some stuff from time to time? And hey, indie rock for the latter, yeah! You like that right? Yeah, probably not "reasonable" but how about fun?

Just people, show me that you don't let Pitchfork be the only guide for your discoveries and tastes. Do you look outside English-speaking countries?

How about a locally acclaimed synthpop female singer from Chile?

You'll like a great art-pop chanteuse from the Netherlands too, right?

What do you say Grimes isn't the only singer wearing blood-soaked clothes in her videos, and that there's a Japanese alternative J-pop singer out there that, too, has issues with conformity?

There's a Swedish Visual Kei artist active this decade. Guess Pitchfork didn't see that one coming, right?

I'm not telling everything here is acclaim-worthy (though I think they're at least interesting or offering other sounds). But I didn't learn about all these people reading Pitchfork. I wouldn't have if I did. Does Pitchfork's readership look around too? What I meant with "uninteresting" is, that list above doesn't seem to even suggest they do. And that makes me sad.

I see your point and definitely agree that there are plenty of interesting and praise-worthy albums not mentioned on P4K (or even panned on P4K). That said, I wouldn't expect for them to show up on a readers poll (that supposedly received 10's of thousands of votes). The end result is of course going to end up averaging out to more well known albums, much like polls on any site do. So while it's definitely very flawed, I still think it's better than the writers' list (which I pretty much hated).

Why not? The year the album came out it finished in at least in the top 10 album in 30 publications and top 5 in 30 publications. Regardless of what you personally think of the album it isn't even close to ridiculous that it's in the top 50 of this poll let alone #26. Which really doesn't factor in this poll but just pointing out that the albums was very well received and the readers loved it

My statement was entirely my own opinion, but if you want to go by critical consensus it's currently ranked at #91 of the decade on AM, which currently doesn't include albums from 2018 or 2019.
