Albums and Songs of 1984 Poll

Post by Moonbeam »

Come one, come all to the poll that will celebrate the yellowest decade of them all, the 1980s! :happy-partydance:

Next up will be your favorite albums and songs of 1984, considered by many to be the greatest year for pop music ever.

Image

A few things remain the same with the decade poll, and a few things will be different.

What will remain the same is that I will ask you to post ranked lists of your favorite albums and songs of each year. Keeping with recent tradition, the top 10 albums and songs from each year will automatically qualify for the final, and albums and songs in the 11-20 range will become eligible to be "wildcard" entries. At the end of the 10 yearly polls, the top 50 of the 100 candidates will qualify for the finals based on a new wildcard point system:

Wildcard points = (Yearly points)/(number of ballots)

The biggest change is the point system. Your ranked albums and songs will be assigned points using the following formula:

300/(rank + 2)

Moreover, I will assign points to all of your ranked entries, not only your top 15. Lists must have a minimum of 5 albums and songs to be eligible, but feel free to come up with extended lists if you like - every ranked album and song will receive points!

The deadline for your 1984 lists is 11:59pm forum time on June 30th.

Formatting:

It would be helpful to me if you could use the same delimiter between your rank and the artist as you use to separate the artist from the album/song. Something like 1 | Evelyn "Champagne" King | I'm So Romantic works great!

Eligibility:

Any song (including a re-recording of an older song) is eligible if it was released in 1984. I will use the following hierarchy to determine eligibility:

1. AM
2. Discogs/RYM
3. Wikipedia

If you include a song or album you think is questionable, it would help me if you could indicate the source it comes from (album/EP/single).

And we're off!

Yes, it garnered a few votes in 1983 but I imagine it will get some votes in 1984 as well.

The original version was released in 1984, the faster remix in 1987 (or 1988? Sources seem to vary)

Fuck you
That being said, like what you like, I don’t judge.
I didn't like it until you said that you hated it, now it's in my best Frank Darabont soundtrack collection top six compilations of all time. Possibly top 3, maybe even four, I don't know, but fuck you anyway, your hate post made it unavailable for Frank Darabont soundtracks. I hope you're proud of yourself.

And I roll it back. Yes! Big surprise manoeuvre. Let the rest of the AMF judge which fart sparks bump brighter. I bet you win because you always sound so polite and refreshing and - unlike me - you actually have something substantial to say

Appreciate that. Thank you, in turn, for your bluntness (and for introducing me to Slam by Onyx, which we singlehandedly pushed into the ‘90s poll).

hahah yeah, regular AMF user Rocky Raccoon once described me as a proto Don Rickles and whatnot. I didn't own a Super Nintendo at that time so I googled him up and woah... he was the best thing about angry internet nerds harassing other internet nerds because they didn't register RR and his obsesssion with Wet Wet Wet
