Unacclaimed V: Semi-finals, Week 3

Post by Bang Jan »

The way this game works is that you will be given two sets of five songs, your job is to rank each of the sets from best to worst. First place gets 5 points, second gets 4 etc.

The song with the most points in each set will advance to the Grand Final. If there is a tie for points, then the song with more first place votes will advance. If they are tied on first place votes as well, there will be a sudden death tiebreak. No repechage from here, it's win or go home!

Feel free to ask any questions, deadline is next Wednesday at 15:00 UTC.

Thread for the Draw

Jaga Jazzist | Tocatta
The Field Mice | Emma's House
Billy Nicholls | Girl from New York
Metric | Gold Guns Girls
Chris Bell | You and Your Sister

David Axelrod | Holy Thursday
Nadine Shah | Fool
Rodriguez | Hate Street Dialogue
Stevie Wonder | Do I Do
Ennio Morricone | Chi Mai

I can’t play ”Girl from New York” and ”Chi Mai”. However these ones work for me:

To me the second group is much better than the first. Of all the songs of this round Emma's House, Girl from New York and You and Your Sister registered the least. At least I really like Gold Guns Girls.

Metric's song is a top 500 for me, so no contest - I've always loved Field Mice's twee pop and Jaga Jazzist is a serious grower. Very good batch of songs.

The Field Mice | Emma's House
Billy Nicholls | Girl from New York
Jaga Jazzist | Tocatta
Metric | Gold Guns Girls
Chris Bell | You and Your Sister

First three tracks are pretty close in terms of quality in my opinion, therefore their ranking was kind of tough.

Ennio Morricone | Chi Mai
David Axelrod | Holy Thursday
Nadine Shah | Fool
Rodriguez | Hate Street Dialogue
Stevie Wonder | Do I Do

I think the version of Chi Mai (my nom by the way) posted by Henrik for those that have no access to the version that's on the Spotify playlist posted by Bang Jan is slightly different than the original one, my impression is that the drum tone is dissimilar. I could be mistaken though.
